Thank you for encouraging the act of taking time to do something slowly and properly; it ain't meditation, but it might as well be, and we all need this in our lives.
I have tried a plethora of coffee in my time here on earth, and by far this is my favorite! I make mine in my French Press until I get everything for a pour over. Thank you for taking on the argues task of creating this masterpiece!
When doing a pour over, I take the extra step of rinsing the filter with hot water to get some of the paper smell out of it. Try it, the paper smell in the water by itself is unmistakable. Dump it out and carry on. As a bonus, it pre-warms the Chemex.
Thank you Alton for this amazing video for me to enjoy so I never have to go through that much effort in the morning. I'll live vicariously through you.
Love the dedication to craft and staying on-point and all with the precision and exactness of this method - but while all this is going on my press and I have wandered in, boiled the kettle, ground the beans, steeped the brew and are on the way out.
I just use a coffee maker with a "steal a cup" function and start the machine without the pot in it. Stand there (~30s) until the grounds are thoroughly soaked, then put the pot in and let it run. I actually came up with this after watching the coffee episode on Good Eats forever and a day ago. Always let the entire pot brew before pouring a cup, and always grind your beans just before use. Find a popular local roaster if you can, so that the beans are as fresh as possible.
I loved watching Good Eats & enjoyed Alton very much...until this. If this were the 1st thing I'd seen of him, I might have written him off as unrealistic, spoiled, & out-of-touch. Who has a justifiable amount of time to spend like this? Personally, I can use the sleep.

You probably aren't weighing and grinding your own beans, or paying attention to the ratio of beans to water. Which means you won't get a good/consistent cup of coffee unless you get one by mistake
If you add one thing to your routine, add a grinder. Ideally though you want to use them just after grinding. Stays far fresher as a bean. My advice is decent maker, expensive grinder. Even your mr coffee would be well served by a decent burr grinder. Far better flavor.

Man Alton I’ve been watching you since good eats on food network. I enjoy your qwarky ways I’m subbing so I can see how you make things happen. I’ve always liked the info you give and how you explain. Keep it up man
I like how little this varies from your Good Eats Coffee episode. It's a wonderful way to go. I usually go with French press myself, but I think the difference between that and manual drip is rather subtle, so long as both are done right.
As a former Santa Barbarian, I love the Handlebar Coffee mug. Do you also know that there are folks growing really high quality coffee in Santa Barbara?
Nice! Mellow tune, dark somber background but well enough lit to see what's happening, perfect tools for the job [dressing gown belt included as handle for that one]. the best of ingredients & a chap expressive enough that he could hack it as a silent movie actor. Just wish that you sold to the UK so I could try the coffee. Hope your good self & Elizabeth have a lovely day now you've started it right.
I just watched a 5-minute ad for coffee, didn't I? Well played Alton Brown, well played.
At least it's delicious coffee!
Lmfao same, that's exactly what I thought
I believe that is called “multi-tasking.”
Ahaha, yeah, but now I want a cup. And it's close to midnight(or dimlight?)
Fortunately for me I don't drink coffee so this Ad is just soothing music and a bit of Alton Brown.
Now I need to see James Hoffmann analyze the impact of a taxidermy squirrel on a Chemex pour-over.
A Hoffmann reaction would be fun.
James: “At first, I didn’t expect there to be an effect. But, after much experimentation, I realized that wasn’t so. I know he doesn't really do reactions, but I think a light-hearted analysis of this video would be a great time
He didn't weigh the squirrel so that will get James a bit miffed.

And now we know the real reason for the sash on bathrobes, a multitasker that cna hold your robe closed or grab hot coffee.
Entertaining video...would expect nothing less from you. That being said, I would never go through all that for my morning coffee. I run my beans through my pre-set burr grinder, toss them into my drip coffee maker and enjoy the same cup of coffee day in and day out, every morning.

I adore you Alton but that’s a whole lot of hullabaloo for a cup of joe.
This isn't for people who drink coffee for the caffeine. This is for people who enjoy the process of brewing and drinking coffee for the taste
Alton, been an avid fan for years! The squirrel had me laughing so hard, my dog gave me the side eye and jumped off the bed! Dog can’t get any sleep around here! He’s taken note of your voice, oh hell naw she’s watching Alton AGAIN...out he goes to the living room to sleep!😝🔥😝😝😝😝❤️❤️😝
Hahaha. I randomly about 3 years ago just boiling water and pour it into a filter with coffee thats on a glass jug. My roommate said I looked poor. Telling me to get a coffee maker. lol. Ty Brown. This video will prove to them I doing what everyone else does.
Loved this. I miss watching QQ. With a baby, I have very little TH-cam time. But I hope to go back and watch the episodes I missed when my baby is older. Much love to the Misses.
Excellent presentation. Perfect sound bed... ♥️ Salute! ☕
Man Alton I’ve been watching you since good eats on food network. I enjoy your qwarky ways I’m subbing so I can see how you make things happen. I’ve always liked the info you give and how you explain. Keep it up man
Hey Alton….love the video….the music is perfect !!! wonderful selection !!!
I like how little this varies from your Good Eats Coffee episode. It's a wonderful way to go. I usually go with French press myself, but I think the difference between that and manual drip is rather subtle, so long as both are done right.
Alton, not sure if you have tried this dish out but it is delicious. Cowboy Cornbread. (We replace the added corn with more beans)
I have yet to make a pour over. I have made my own latte with the Multitasker coffee via my home espresso machine. It turned out pretty good.
As a former Santa Barbarian, I love the Handlebar Coffee mug. Do you also know that there are folks growing really high quality coffee in Santa Barbara?

I'm on my third bag! Multitasker is wonderful brewed hot or cold in my French press!
Hope your good self & Elizabeth have a lovely day now you've started it right.
that is such a clean looking scale i need to get one. Its good to see Aaron Burr grinder is still doing well lol. that beautiful elixir of life.
love the format. the music is awesome and the sounds are great. Sure, not all the time, but as a side series I'd enjoy more of this.
