Viewing these separated pieces remember me my vintage G.I.JOE vehicles. lately i take the Sketchup 3d and replace with a printed filament plastic replacement if I cannot found the piece in the vintage market. the large scale really helps to repair these details! Lovely Locomotives! In N scale its a real nightmare fixing the trucks.
You both are so awesome. You share what you have been going through with the trains, and then you show what you do to fix it. Such a caring team you both are. 💕
Great idea, Looks like a fix. Your pin idea will work too if ya use medium loktiet in the pin hole as loktiet is an expander on a bolt to lock it tiet...
Just now working on the Silverton one. Much more to do there. Ordered a speaker from China for them. Hope it works. If so it will be our go to speaker. But China? Wish we could get it here. A month to get it.
It's amazing how some mechanical designers seem to lack of common sens! A plastic tab with a screw in middle of it, and the screw not longer than the tab is just asking for being broken! Well, I had such guy at work in the past.
Nice if expensive fix. Tbh, with the price of a new truck (that might fail in the future in the same way) I'd have been looking for an alternative fix too! Well done
Interesting video, useful product info. The Bachmann Shay and Climax locos have a similar problem with their bevel gears splitting due to the brittle nature of that plastic…but then I am sure you already know that.
And I thought about attempting a repair with that but there’s just no way. In this case it’s metal gears or nothing. My first Shay managed to make it about 2 feet before it broke. 2 feet! Fortunately Bachman repaired it with metal gears.
When you're done fixing your locomotive that you are working on now, could you film it running on the layout indoors so we can see how the layout is coming along. Also could you use it to pull or switch some cars?
Bachmann sure learned the hard way. It's a shame that when they cracked (or stopped cracking) really decent quality, they pretty much stopped making models of this type.
Yes they got it right just in time to stop doing it. But perhaps at some point we will return to it. It’s sort of like democracy. Well in fact it is democracy and the free market. Rest assured if they think they can sell 10,000 units they will go right back into production. So it’s up to us to find 10,000 modelers that want to buy the same things we do
Haha! That's right. A big part of my drive for doing TH-cam videos is to promote the scale, as I believe it to be the ultimate model railroading scale. I should keep tabs on how many people I've helped make purchases. Quite a few thousand dollars have gone the way of Accucraft and Bachmann with my help, while I am still several thousand out of pocket 😂
If you can find someone with a 3d printer, maybe you an have them make any parts you need. Thanks for the tip on the glue. I can use it on American Flyer 😁👍!
That's an interest set up on that locomotive Dale. Did the engineer stand to the side of the boiler, and the fireman on the plate between the locomotive and the tender? I imagine the engineer got pretty warm!
Indeed. Almost no room. Little front visibility. Lots of heat. The fireman had it worse. Inside in the heat working valves. Outside in the snow shoveling tons of coal. Back inside with a heavy coat still on. And so on.
Did you happen to try JB Weld? I would think that the truck side frames need to be able to swivel slightly on the spring plank to allow equalization and the wheels to stay in contact with the rails. It seems to me, that you have set the truck up for derailments if the track is out of surface.
Well don is using it to repair the rear steps on his tender. Seems to work great on this plastic. I’m thinking of using it on a repair also. Stay tuned !
Nope. But unlike the gears these only break if they get dropped. Even a bit. Like a few inches. But the key is go slow and steady putting it on the tracks.
Well I have tried that. And if you break it loose after, which is easy done, then re glue with thin super glue that works mostly ok. I think this is better.
I assume your Locos are On30 ( 16.5mm track) Is there enough "wiggle room" to Regauge them to On42, ( 3'6" gauge, 22mm) ??? QGR used Baldwins in the 1880s-1920s period ( Moguls, Consolidations similar to US 3' Locos.)
Nope. F scale. Well 1 gauge track. Large scale. Often called G scale. Our friends don and Steve have On30 however Don re gauges to On3. No mean feat. Not sure what would happen in your scenario.
The same guy who made the tinder trucks worked for McDonald's ice cream machines . That's why you can never get a Blizzard or shake . But.... Bachman trucks never stop shaking .🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂 Just Kidding . Also you waste a lot of the kicker with the spray . I use a pin point tool to apply the kicker with just a little drop especially when you don't want to get in on somewhere you don't need it , like a pre-painted Part . Option two is to place a plastic bowl ( cheap ) over were you just sprayed the kicker without putting any on the part it's self and just leaving the vapors do the work for about thirty seconds . The company wants you to waste the spray quicker to buy more kicker . So... Pin point or vapor is better than the spray .
Tried that without success. Before this my only fix with this kind of plastic was to repair it with epoxy, then re break the joint then glue with super glue. Super thin super glue. Not perfect but a fix. The key being to create a large perfect fit area for the super glue.
Don’t think go. I think it’s basically OHU glue. Great old German glue. It’s been repackage does everything under the sun including testers models for wood models and I’ll kinds of things. Anyway nothing sticks to this plastic. Really hoping that this does.
I'm going to stop watching this channel because every time I watch you tell us about another "common" failure with my "Connie!" haha Actually, the one problem I had with mine when I got it was the part of the front truck that screws into the frame had split. I used some gorilla super-glue to put it back together and so far so good but I haven't run it enough yet to really test it...
Thanks you two just love the video of the repair on the gluing of the truck.
Thanks for watching!!

Grand idea!!
Loctite to the rescue... again! That stuff is expensive, but man does it WORK as advertised!
Yup!!’
Excellent fix!!!
Thanks. Now to see if it holds. If not I’ll pin it.
You both are so awesome. You share what you have been going through with the trains, and then you show what you do to fix it. Such a caring team you both are. 💕
This is quite the project! I thought going in it would be simple….. RIGHT!…..
Great idea, Looks like a fix. Your pin idea will work too if ya use medium loktiet in the pin hole as loktiet is an expander on a bolt to lock it tiet...
Might still do that. I’m testing the glue in other areas and if it seems weak it’s getting pins.
Great job trucking around sorry screwing around Hello from Detroit Michigan
Oh truck!
@@ToyManTelevision 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well done
Hi and thanks!!
That will be neat to see that paint scheme. Great video thanks for sharing guys have a great week. Can't wait to see it running on the layout.

Interesting

Hi again. And thanks again

Those blasted self tapping screws. Bachmann should have bored it prior to running the screw. Nice fix!
And some of them are impossibly small
Great job ..I am a JB weld. Guy ha ha ha I don't believe it would work on that small space . thank you for the information . Have a great week.
Nope. That’s super glue. We are loving UHU but JB is good too. Different uses! But this repair I think will work. I hope.
Thank you 😊
Love the red window frames! Hope the glue holds. Maybe it’s time to start 3D printing some of these parts. Buena suerte 🙏🏼🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Thanks. The beams will be red as well. Love that look.
Well at least you didn't glue your fingers together thank God for little favors 👍👍
I always glue my fingers together. At some point in the day. It’s a given. Same with Karyn. Skin oil is the best kicker ever discovered
When you're done fixing your locomotive that you are working on now, could you film it running on the layout indoors so we can see how the layout is coming along. Also could you use it to pull or switch some cars?
Hopefully inside AND outside

3D is the perfect fix. I’m betting people have the files.

"If man can make it, man can fix it."
Worse case start over. Been there. Anyway can be made to work.
Do you think the loc tite primer glue combo will work on split proto 2000 axels?
If they can be pulled closed I guess. Not sure. I’m not familiar with the problem.
If you have trucks that have not broke yet could you glue it to prevent a break?
Nope. But unlike the gears these only break if they get dropped. Even a bit. Like a few inches. But the key is go slow and steady putting it on the tracks.
PS I would still pin it
I think so.
You could try a light dab of apoxy to glue the peices together
Well I have tried that. And if you break it loose after, which is easy done, then re glue with thin super glue that works mostly ok. I think this is better.
@@ToyManTelevision A do agree, that is for certain
that 401 is uber strong

How about some JB Weld?
Tried that without success. Before this my only fix with this kind of plastic was to repair it with epoxy, then re break the joint then glue with super glue. Super thin super glue. Not perfect but a fix. The key being to create a large perfect fit area for the super glue.
Could those parts be 3d printed on a printer that uses liquid to print them?
Yup. And betting someone has the files to print that truck bolster.
The Donnie Connie? LOL sorry couldnt help myself
Gender reassignment I guess
Congratulations on the Keep on "Trucking" glue
Wendover?
Will be there. !!!
Would walthers goo work

It happens. Too often. But can be fixed.
Your damn right
J B weld hold better works on glass holds longer then super glue and crazy glue
Yup. Super glue is brittle. Very very brittle.
What about 3d printing the part? Taking a picture and convert it into a file and print it…
Many are doing just that. Need a scanner and printer. But I’m betting people out there have the 3D files to share
