I can't quite put my finger on it, but Glen's music speaks to me in a way that none other can or has before. He just has that way of getting under your skin. You can feel every ounce of emotion that he puts into his work, it's on his face and it's in his voice constantly. Magical.
You know, I saw him perform recently and he played this song. He explained that it is a song he dedicated to his mother after his dad passed away, hoping she would find someone else to be happy with. Unrelated to the song, he continued to say that during the pandemic her mom got sick and passed too (not from COVID). She never found another partner unfortunately. When he found out, he was touring and decided to catch a ferry that took him from France (where he was at the moment) to where her mom was. While on the ferry, he went to the upper deck, and it was only him. He told the audience that he spotted a big beautiful bird was following the ferry, flying right above it, at the same speed. He was surprised because he never saw something like that. He looked up and thought his mom was saying goodbye to him, and out of nowhere the bird took a huge dump just on him. He told the audience, "yeah that definitely was mom" and the name of the song made even more sense after his experience. There are more details I might have ommitted but that was the gist of the story. Almost had the audience crying after he performed. It is such a beautiful song
His guitar to me is symbolic to clinging on to an old thought of someone with whom he was deeply in love. This could really explain the melancholy and pain in his voice.
I am finally going to see Glen perform in person. There are extremely few artists that put their heart into their music like he does and I cannot wait to see him do exactly that
Been lucky enough to see him live twice and both times it was a beautiful magical experience, he’s so talented and surrounds himself with talented people who enjoy playing music as much as he does.
I really can't stop commenting in all his videos.. I am truly in love with this man and everytime I watch him I fall even more in love with him! I've never seen anyone sing like Glen... He's just full of emotion and reaches perfection everytime he opens his mouth and plays his guitar
I've seen Glen 3 times in the last two years and can't wait to make it a fourth this June! He puts such amazing energy and emotion into his shows; it's almost like being hypnotized for two hours.
Glenn Hansard lives the music and touches your heart. Love his lyrics about live and love; a thrue songwriter. This mini concert makes me feel weepy and joyfull. He's blessed xx
Setlist: 1.) "Love Don't Leave Me Waiting" 0:00 2.) "Bird Of Sorrow" 4:22 3.) "Come Away To The Water" 9:29 4.) "Lucia" 13:22 5.) "The Song Of Good Hope" 17:51 There you go.
The first song is a rare case for Glen Hansard where the acoustic version doesn't do it justice. The studio arrangement is so well made with the amazing bassline, the vocal harmonies and the guitar solos.
He does have a new guitar. But his bond with what I like to think of as "The Holy One" I imagine is a strong one. I will find it a sad day when it is permanently retired. Lord but the places he and that guitar have been!
Lol, thanks for reminding me about this great song, the only thing I could find out about it was that Lucia was left off Rhythm and Repose, but that he said he might rework the song for an EP (this article was from 2012).

I have basically a similar guitar, TAN-15C.
Can anybody please tell me the strings he uses?
THIS!!!!!!
Look up Sturgill Simpson. He’s been added to my list with Glen.
There's something special about Irish musicians. He's a true poet. ❤
Now this here is a musician.
I freakin love this guys music! Nothin but respect Glenn!

Bird of Sorrow, an absolute masterpiece
Incredible isnt it!
So much better than the album version.
@@paullangley6280 I would say the album version is equally as good, one of those times where the feeling on the song gets through in both versions
This song is incredible.

How does he do it? So real and raw and heartfelt. He's genius and I fall a little more in love with him each time I hear him sing. Unbelievable!
Tiny Desk Concerts are one of the greatest things in my life.
Same, same.

This guy relives the words he sings. So much authentic emotion.
Still in awe of the talent that pours out of this man.
Ive listened to bird of sorrow a hundren times, but that version just blew my mind.
Whats not to like about Hansard? Remarkable in his minimalist ways and then suddenly pelts it out. Divine.
If only I could live the way glen hansard sings. So much passion.
Urmm, 0:00 to 21:56 is perfection.
Glen Hansard leaves behind a sweet taste of his art made by a true craftsman.

There is so much experience here...
You can see the memories creeping in at the end, memories of the last time he played Tiny Desk..
I haven't listened to Glen for a long time, this brings back memories
Wow, this is just how a solo singer/guitarist should sound. Lucia in particular is just powerful.
Did he ever release that song?
@@luciajorge4977 yes on his most recent album as your hearts not in it
I really can't stop commenting in all his videos.. I am truly in love with this man and everytime I watch him I fall even more in love with him! I've never seen anyone sing like Glen... He's just full of emotion and reaches perfection everytime he opens his mouth and plays his guitar
Excellent Glen, as always...

My number one artist since I first saw him at the 930 Club in 2012. Every show is different and an absolute delight. Brilliant!

Gives me chills. AMAZING !
My blood pressure rose when I just saw his name come across my RSS feed... He's a Tiny Desk Concert legand...
He does have a new guitar. But his bond with what I like to think of as "The Holy One" I imagine is a strong one. I will find it a sad day when it is permanently retired. Lord but the places he and that guitar have been!
Absolutely phenomenal.
The man has so much passion his TDC with marketa irglova is my favourite ever and this ranks close

Good film, Glen is golden.
Great and Wonderful.
I LOVE IT.
How can he still sing like that?
Fantastic technique is how
As soon as I saw that NPR uploaded this on my feed, I started yelling "YESS. YEESSSS!!"
I am in L.O.V.E with Bird of Sorrow. Addictive.
Haha! I love that he has gray in it now. Aw!
Ian why would anyone buy him a new guitar. That thing looks and sounds amazing. The wear on it suits him so well.
Wonderful ! Thanks.
Phenomenal sound! It must be the broken guitar ;)
Brilliant!
I can't help but say that I have seen a kind of musical purity in him
I loved all of the songs, but especially Lucia. Did he ever release that song? I don't think I have it in my library.
BigZ7337 i don't think so. glen please :(
Lol, thanks for reminding me about this great song, the only thing I could find out about it was that Lucia was left off Rhythm and Repose, but that he said he might rework the song for an EP (this article was from 2012).
It's on his new album, between two shores, with a different name "Your hearts not in it"
The song is "Love Don't Keep Me Waiting"
Creates new playlist: OMG!
Until I saw Glen I thought only Van could get away with those nonsense "nyah nyahhh" syllables. Love it.
Eli Berdinner who?
Haha good one
How can someone dislike this.
As far as I know he still hasn't released "Lucia" and it's ruining my life!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hyperbole not intended.
Kevin Ramirez it's on his new album, between two shores, with a different name "Your hearts not in it"
Kevin Ramirez he turned it into "your hearts not in it" on his new record Between Two Shores
love how Glen Hansard let Dermot Kennedy butt in on the second verse there.
0:00 to 21:56 is PERFECTION.
sometimes you're gonna have to blind yourself in the name of empathy. profound.
