    With the exception of 2x18, Amenadiel's time-slowing ability was so that he could act on Earth without really interacting with humanity. He no longer wants to be removed from humanity, so I assume he can't self-actualize that particular ability anymore.

      In the series finale, Amenadiel mentions that all angels need to spend time living among humanity so they can grow the way he and Lucifer did.

    I get the frustration with Rory but I just think her character didn't get the chance to develop. I also think we have been seeing Lucifer's story for six seasons so of course we sympathize with him. Speaking as someone who was abandoned by a parent and later on she tried buying me a bunch of stuff & offers to go on trips. It didn't work on me either.

    • @transientanus
      @transientanus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      But like...this version of Lucifer hasn't even left her yet. It's a completely different situation. She is blaming him and punishing him for a crime that he hasn't even committed yet. She's being a complete brat. Yeah, it sucks that she was in that situation, but that would be like my dad bailing on me and me going and beating the shit out of some random guy who happens to look like my dad. He is genuinely trying--from his perspective THIS moment is his first experience of fatherhood and he's trying his hardest from the moment he realizes she's really who she says she is. Which actually makes him a GREAT father.

      @@transientanus that’s a very logical way of looking at things.
      Unfortunately, emotions don’t give a single flying fuck about logic.
      Sure, on paper, from our view as outsiders, we know that Lucifer is still there and hasn’t abandoned them, which makes her at fault since she’s blaming someone for something that he hasn’t done yet.
      But she has decades (60-70 years) of abandonment fueling her actions and emotions. It may seem like she’s a teenager being a dick to a father who doesn’t deserve it, but she left the Future when Chloe was on her deathbed. This is a person who spent decades being abandoned by her father, with a mother that constantly defended him but never explained why he left.
      Then when her mother is on her deathbed, she hopes that at least *then,* her father (who’s left for unexplained reasons) might come back, to at least see her at the end of her life, but he doesn’t.
      This is also with the full knowledge that your father is an indestructible person with dimensional travel, he *has* ways of coming back.
      This is a wound that has been festering for a lifetime, amplified by the sight of a mother on her deathbed still defending the cause of said wound, with the full knowledge that your father has ways of coming back, but chooses not to.
      To us, there’s multiple decades separating the 2 points in the timeline, so “it’s a completely different situation,” to her, she just left her mother on her deathbed, wound still fresh and festering.

    • @transientanus
      @transientanus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@phoebusapollo8365 Literally all that means is that she's had more than enough time to grow the fuck up. Yes I've seen the show and know why it has to happen that way, but it's still no excuse for her bratty behavior. And while decades of abandonment issues and feelings of neglect is an EXPLANATION for her actions, it is certainly no excuse. Trauma doesn't give you a license to be a dick and hurt the people around you. Hell, she knew LINDA when she was growing up. She never thought to take advantage of some therapy like literally EVERY ONE OF THE PEOPLE CLOSE TO HER WOULD HAVE ADVISED? Nah, this shit is all on her.

      @@transientanus (Just a heads up, im catching up on the show, so gonna be using just stuff to this episode cause i dont know where things are going and what the big reveal is. So just gonna talk about how she and Lucifer are, at this point in the show. Maybe should wait to comment till after im done and got all the knowledge as rest of comments, but watching along with BW and checking some comments, i dont get 100% of the Rory frustration, as she is justified for all of it)
      But the thing is, yeah he hasn't done it to her yet, but he's not just same random guy who looks like her dad (like you used as an example). He is her dad. Same person and all. So she is 100% justified to blame him at this point in time, cause from her perspective, regardless of all the trying he is doing, he is still gonna walk out on her and Chloe in just a few weeks. Time travel gets messy, but the Lucifer who left her would have all the same info our current Lucifer has (that he loves Chloe, and will be having a kid), but to her knowledge he still walked away. Its frustrating to watch as a show, but Rory is both justified in her anger at her Lucifer who did walk out on her, and our Lucifer who for all his talk and show, she believes is still guaranteed to walk out again (nevermind how even if he didn't, she'd still be left with the years of her life without him, which cant be solved in a day). Lucifer may be being a great father to us the viewers, but Lucifer isn't being a great father to her when it looks like he's making a big show, with when he's just gonna leave her again. Think abandonment issues, but doubled with future knowledge of how things would play out, and will always play out the same

    If you think about it, the racist detective is a lot like Dan from S1, looking for the easiest explanation and way out to solve each case. While Dan was never a racist, he always tried to get cases off him as quickly as possible and with as little investigation as possible. That always set him apart from Chloe.

    I love how especially relevant this episode is for these dark times. The fact that extreme racism in the LAPD as well as most other police stations in the U.S. doesn’t get solved in this episode and serves as the catalyst for Chloe to get back on the force and clean the department up was such great writing.
    And the duet of Lucifer and Rory at the end always gives me chills.

    I think it's very important to remember Rory's perspective here. She has spent her whole life believing that her father abandoned her, for absolutely no good reason. If there had been a good reason, she believes she would have been told that. At the worst moment in her life, her father is still nowhere to be found, which causes her so much anger and grief that she literally creates time travel to find and kill him. When she gets here, her father insists that there is absolutely no way that the pain he caused her happened, which has to suck. Then, when he finally accepts her feelings, he immediately tries to buy away her suffering in a day, with no thought to how she would react to it.
    I understand, the way the story is told and the fact that we know Lucifer enough to see there's something off makes this storyline frustrating at times. But Rory's feelings are incredibly justified, imo, when you look at it from her point of view

    • @Hunterfalke
      @Hunterfalke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I get what they were trying to do with Rory, but by the end of the series, i find her thoroughly a bad choice to focus on during the shows final season. Doesn't help that she brings self fullfilling prophecies via time travel, my most hated plot device.
      She only brings a ton of frustration, and yes i get that that is her character, but why bring that character in then? There was so much specific drama to deal with. Let Lucifer actually be God for a while, make him finding his true calling a journey. So much potential was there.
      And i don't even hate the Rory plot in theory, but everything bad about it gets multiplied a thousandfold with the ending.

    • @mlgnerd13
      @mlgnerd13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Hunterfalke I guess if you don’t like the ending, that very much hurts the plot. I don’t love how long it takes to get there, but I really enjoy the last three episodes and the Lucifer and Rory relationship by the end.
      Though, if I had it my way, the second to last episode of the last season would have been the season 5 finale, and all of season 6 would have been the battle for the throne. The hype at the end of 5x15 is the absolute peak of the show for me, as I’ve said in other reactions

      I think a lot of shows at the time were already doing that though, look at Brooklyn 99 when they released their last season. They focused heavily on the bad elements of the police and got quite a bit of backlash even from people on the same political side. I think it's fair for her to assume he must've abandoned her for some bad reason. She never knew him, she only has two ideas of him. One that comes from her family, and one that comes from the world and chistianity and although she should go with her family, the idea the world has of him seems to be the true one since he's gone for milk and never came back.
