At last, my full ALPINA B7 Review is here! ALPINA in Germany very kindly invited me out to test/review their all new B7 xDrive. I had this incredible car for 4 days, on day three Robert (heelandtoeblog) and I took it over to Austria and filmed this video. The current BMW 7 series is a very special luxury car, ALPINA work their magic and produce possibly the most complete automobile I've ever had the pleasure of driving, pure comfort and luxury one minute, rally car agility the next!
Hey Joe, BMW mechanic here. The Alpina engine isn't based on the M V8 (S63). It is based on the newest stage from the standart factory V8 (N63). So it's really different in terms of turbos, exhaust manifold etc. to the M engine. ALpina has done some drastic changes for sure, (pistons, turbos, cooling..) Also all those 4,4l BMW V8 engines use one of those two turbos for each side, so they are the same size. Fantastic video btw.! Keep up the good work, love your channel :)
Ohhhh bugger! I should have done my homework properly, thanks for correcting me. Hopefully only properly clued up people like yourself will notice ;-) Thanks for your support man, Cheers!
Haha I don't think many will notice! Already impressive how much you know about the tech in those cars, for a non automotive mechanic, I guess ;) If you wanna stay tuned about my BMW M2 and E30 driving around in switzerland, you can have a look at my insta: joel.e30 I'm one of your followers of course :) Cheers!
I did notice it! Shame on you because the rest of the video is almost perfect :P Great pictures, great sound, great editing, great comments... it's hard to do better! It would just have been nice to add the videos of the Autobahn and the acceleration to show another side of the car.
Joe Achilles perfectly captured the spirit of Alpina and the passion of the brand in this review. I have a B4 AWD, and when I was driving the Passo di Stelvio last October, I felt just the same way he did in this video. It's unbelievable how Alpina produces cars that can blow your mind with their speed, but are calm and subtle when you want them to be. Pair that with great style and natural, progressive handling, and you've got a very lovable car that never stops surprising you!
Fantastic video. For me this is one of the best cars BMW make...except it's taken Alpina to do it! This is so much more desirable over a 760 which just looks garish. The Alpina on the other hand is pure class!
Wow that's a big call haha! Thanks a lot, glad we could produce content like this on a shoe string whereas Top Gear would spend more than the cars value.
Man I LOVE your review of the Alpina! You make me feel as if I’m in the car with you. The video editing quality and audio is top notch! Great camera work
The best review with this car! It's awosome to see Alpina content from you. Keep going, and I hope to see the new B5-Biturbo in the near future. Cheers!
Awesome review Joe. Looking very professional with the drone footage and strategic camera positions. What a car, what a location! Like me, you've certainly been bitten by the Alpina bug! Difficult to go back to 'regular' BMW once you've experienced the best! Four wheel drifts in a B7 X-drive, seriously?! Love it! :-D
Hahaha I know mate, if someone had said to me 12 months ago I would be drifting a £150k xDrive ALPINA in Austria I would have laughed out loud for a while... I feel very privaliged to have had the opportunity. Thanks for you support
I swear seeing the first scene I double checked if this is Chris Harris' video. Top stuff Joe. I always thought Alpinas to be special but thanks to your channel I can finally say what is my fav car brand!
Haha - Robert and I got our opening scene inspiration from the Harris ALPINA B3 video ;-) Yeah they're certainly one of mine, if not my favourite too! Cheers
Brilliant this bud - I've always had a bit of a 'thing' for big and fast saloon cars and Alpina have always been consistently excellent with this kind of set up. What an absolute weapon this B7 is - perfect for wafting or hooning or a bit of both if the mood takes your fancy! Excellent review as always and great to see you driving the car as it should be driven! - Top Work Fella!👍👍👍
What an incredible car this is! Fantastic review done by Joe Achilles, loved the review of the M760li Xdrive as well. Well done mate. I wish ALPINA is sold here in Malaysia. CHEERS!
This is by far your best video Joe. My word was it well executed in the editing department mate. Just well done to you and Robert 🙌🏽🏁. The Alpina B7 just seems to be a that ticks all the boxes well 👌🏽. Cannot believe the adjustability you get from XDrive and those angles pulled just looked insane (Great Driving btw) and it's a LWB limo 👀. Wow wow wow, just wow. I thought the Drivetribe GT3 video was great last week 😂😂😂. Well done mate. 👌🏽, well done Robert 👊🏽.
Thanks buddy, means lots coming from you man! Yeah I'm super happy with how this turned out, the drone decided to stop working, the sun didn't really come out etc... But Robert and I managed to crack on and produce this on a shoe string haha. Cheers man and see you on the weekend!
I like your channel, we can feel your passion for BMW and for Alpina. Next step , driving a Ruf !!! and share your driving experience. Thanks a lot, Mister Joe
Always look forward to watching your vids, they just keep getting better and better. Now, as always you've got me in the mood to go and rag my M240i about 😂. Thanks for all the vids, keep up the good work. I'm a huge fan. Are you going to be putting up a full review of the 540i you had recently? 👍
Cheers, tune was from Epidemic Sound called climbing through air 3. I did a M760li xDrive video last month, unfortunately it had to be taken down. Cheers
This is the most comprehensive and enjoyable review of the b7 on youtube. Joe does it really feel like a 700bhp car? And why can't we order the x drive version here in UK?
Cheers Ryhan appreciate your kind words man :-) - I think the combination of torque everywhere and the incredibly slick ZF 8 speed makes this car feel much healthier than the quoted 600bhp, I would put money on the dyne figure being closer to 700 than 600, I don't have facts to back this up though so I might be wrong. Like with the M140/M240i xDrive's, BMW/ALPINA can't quote fit the xDrive packaging in with the RHD setup on the B7, there is so little space to play with in the engine bay and drivetrain that it only fits in LHD unfortunately. I'm sure the RWD version is equally amazing and circa 80kg lighter :-) Cheers
Nice video Joe, i really enjoyed it! hope you're getting your hands on the new B5, which might be even sportier! on which pass where you driving? greetings from Munich :)
Cheers buddy, I hope I get a go in the B5 too, it only weighs around 80kg less so it won't be miles better, but shorter wheelbase etc could make it more nimble :-) The pass was called Kaunertaler Gletscherstrasse. Cheers
Awesome video Joe loved the ending I noticed that without tatbels your more civilised lol not sure if it's a good or bad thing 😜 and we need to get SID in the rear drive B7. Anyway awesome video keep up the good work.
After 1000km of really hard driving (mostly dry tarmac), the front right needed replacing, it was just about legal when we returned this stunning car. I tried it on Summers during the final day, it was 30% better again :-)
Did you get a wry smile from Alpina when you returned the car ?? Why do you think the front right was so worn, is that due to those alpine roads, mostly right hand bends, also is there a bias towards front wheel drive ?
Only you would slide a 7 series on a wet mountain road haha. Great review Joe, really love what Alpina does. The subtle modifications to the exterior (minus the stickering) with tastefully designed large wheels is great. Now comes the interior bit, they can give you pretty much any interior colour you'd ask for, any stitch,... The subtle shift buttons on the steering wheel,.. All the little details make it so good. Also the people I have dealt with from Alpina (at car shows) were very kind, helpful and passionate. Can't find anything bad to say about them really!
Hahaha I have to drive things to my limit, no matter what the car or cost ;-) Totally agree re the ALPINA touches, such an awesome brand and lovely bunch of people!
Me too, but when I asked ALPINA, they pointed out the 7's have a carbon core shell that saves loads over even the 3 & 5 series shell. Yeah shorter wheelbase and still all wheel steering will make it more agile for sure!
great video as always 👌🏽 In my opinion, your the best car youtuber, because your a car guy.. you really enjoy driving and you're not driving around to enjoy some envious glances... and your live videos are hilarious 😂😂👍🏽🍷
Hi Joe, I understand your love of BMW but to make it fair you need to get hold of the new Audi S8 plus that thing is very very fast ask Tim he can tell you as he had a test drive last year in Germany. I am a massive Audi fan boy but a few days ago I have a friend with a 530D with a tune f*%$k it had 475 Bhp what a machine you could feel the back end wanting to snap I got pushed into the seat I just fell in love I'm becoming a BMW fanboy I can't imagine the new V12. Regards Alan
If I could get my hands on a S8 plus I would do mate. I can tell you now it wouldn't handle like the B7 though, Audi's quattro set up is very safe and understeer happy. I love Audi's too, incredible bits of kit, they just lack on the limit handling. Cheers man
When you had the V12 and you pushed it around the the roundabout you said it handled like a Audi on the edge its been said the new Audi S8 plus is more of a drivers car than any BMW or Merc. I can't say for sure I have not had that pleasure. Regards Alan B

Wait they rented them or you own one. I see test drove one.
I watch every youtube movie in 480p to save my data. I just had to watch this in 1080p because the quality of the content deserves it.
Hahaha love it, thats a great compliment! Thank you, hopefully it was worth it!
Joe, this video was insane! Great shots, editing and of course your content. Keep it up!
Mate this is one of your best reviews yet! Was a huge pleasure working on this with you - till next time ;)
Mostly thanks to you mate, cant wait for the next one :-)

Whitewalkerll - You're right, I should have put a few high speed clips in here... There is one more B7 video to come though. Cheers
You should defo be on top gear joe, Production 10/10
Mate thanks sooo much, but your production is better than mine buddy haha Maybe we should both be on Top Gear ;-)
Joe Achilles haha, I think we should seriously consider doing a little top gear style show of our own
Drone footage definitely making this even more profesionnal. Awsome video Joe !!
I've always loved and appreciated Alpinas now I do even more! I want one so badly
Cheers man, I'm dying for one too... :-)
Really should be revising but when you're banging out vids like this, I can't help but procrastinate!
Haha Sorry buddy ;-)
Watched this video many times and I still love it
Amazing scenery. Amazing car. Watched a lot of your videos since joining recently this is one of your best. Keep up the great work .
Cheers man glad you like it, I had plenty of fun making it too :-)
Joe Achilles perfectly captured the spirit of Alpina and the passion of the brand in this review.

Cheers Johannes! So glad (as a ALPINA owner) you liked my video, they really make special products that can do everything :-) Bunch of geniuses
If you're ever in Bavaria, and want to have a drive, just say the word!
Totally worth the wait Joe! One of your best videos to date!
Cheers man!
Great intro Joe. Love this car. Interior is gorgeous and the exhaust note sounds awesome.
Cheers Wade, now I need to convince ALPINA to fly me to Oz and do the rounds haha. Hope you're well mate
The quality has seriously stepped up. Expect this quality from a youtuber with 1m+ subs, good job
haha cheers Jack, I can only dream of having even 100k Subs ;-)
Joe Achilles ahh you will with this level of content
Wondeful review! Your enthusiasm for the B7 is contagious!
Cheers Brian, glad his video genuinely catches my excitement for this incredible car!
Recently got a 335d Xdrive Msport and with 465 pound ft of torque it pulls like a train
Are you saying it is very slow or very fast, because trains accelerate ridiculously slowly.
Got my in Jan - still smiling :)
gmansplit very fast 💨 for a car that manages 50mpg
Videos keep getting better and better, and this place in Austria is just awesome.
Cheers buddy, I really enjoyed shooting this one!
Great video Joe. What a car?!?!? Just wow. Keep up the great work Joe
Thanks Ben :-)

Cheers Dan
Another top, top, top video. Keep them coming!
Cheers Mark :-)
Fantastic video. For me this is one of the best cars BMW make...except it's taken Alpina to do it! This is so much more desirable over a 760 which just looks garish. The Alpina on the other hand is pure class!

Best Vid to date Joe. editing to rival Top Gear there. on point. beautiful.
Wow that's a big call haha! Thanks a lot, glad we could produce content like this on a shoe string whereas Top Gear would spend more than the cars value.

Haha Cheers man, yeah thats basically a word ;-)
Video production is top notch buddy, good job and great review!

Joe Achilles tuanvu
Awesome scenery and one awesome car! I have no need for such a large car but it's right up there at the top of my wish list.
Haha mine too buddy!
Much Appreciated for your input. What a car!
Great video, really got a sense for how capable this car actually is and that's even more incredible when you factor in the size of it!
Cheers Ollie :-) Yeah incredible machine, really miss it...
Haha yeah, i'm sure you do, looks like an absolute beast. Never ceases to amaze me how capable modern performance cars can be
Great stuff as always - super entertaining and informative. Keep it up!
Thanks Adam :-)
Nice video! Oh do you why we don't get the x drive, is it because they can't fit it in the lhd?
I swear seeing the first scene I double checked if this is Chris Harris' video. Top stuff Joe.

What an incredible car this is! Fantastic review done by Joe Achilles, loved the review of the M760li Xdrive as well. Well done mate. I wish ALPINA is sold here in Malaysia. CHEERS!

Yes all is well! I should hopefully have my budget video of the Suzuki Swift up tonight 😂 Catch up soon for a beer 🍻
I like your channel, we can feel your passion for BMW and for Alpina. Next step , driving a Ruf !!! and share your driving experience. Thanks a lot, Mister Joe
Cheers man, god I would love to drive a Ruf!!!!
Always look forward to watching your vids, they just keep getting better and better. Now, as always you've got me in the mood to go and rag my M240i about 😂. Thanks for all the vids, keep up the good work. I'm a huge fan. Are you going to be putting up a full review of the 540i you had recently? 👍
Cheers man, glad my videos have that impact! I did a mini 540 review to sit alongside my full G30 530d video. Thanks for your support
Joe Achilles Great, looking forward to it 👍👍
Fantastic vid, I can tell you were blown away by the car (I would be too!)
Thanks man, yeah I certainly was!
Hey, nice editing and background music at start , I wanted to ask you if it's possible for you to upload a video on BMW M760li Xdrive ?
Cheers, tune was from Epidemic Sound called climbing through air 3. I did a M760li xDrive video last month, unfortunately it had to be taken down. Cheers

Just need a little Matt Monroe at 16:37 and you'd be sorted Joe ;)
Really nice content and editing. One thing that makes your work stand out is the off-camera comments and the way you do it.
Cheers Robert :-)
Thank you Joe, thank you Alpina!
Another fantastic video Joe, and keep doing those 'Instagram Live with Joe and a glass of wine' :)
Haha will do mate :-)
SOME NICE CINEMATICS JOE! SHWWWEEEEET!
Cheers man, mostly thanks to HeelandToe.Blog :-)
Nice video Joe, i really enjoyed it!
hope you're getting your hands on the new B5, which might be even sportier!
on which pass where you driving?
greetings from Munich :)
Cheers buddy, I hope I get a go in the B5 too, it only weighs around 80kg less so it won't be miles better, but shorter wheelbase etc could make it more nimble :-) The pass was called Kaunertaler Gletscherstrasse. Cheers
Great review
What’s your opinion on the push button wheel shifters?
Thank you
Awesome video Joe loved the ending I noticed that without tatbels your more civilised lol not sure if it's a good or bad thing 😜 and we need to get SID in the rear drive B7. Anyway awesome video keep up the good work.
Haha maybe a fraction more civilised haha Yeah Sid in a UK B7 would be a spectacle. Cheers
Nice review, Joe! :)
when's ur collection day?😂😂😂
17:02 the speed it gets from 30 --> 70 is incredible
Haha yeah and that was up possibly the steepest bit of the toll road!
Ridiculous. Awesome vid, keep up the good work (Y)
one more follower big fan of your hard work :)
Thank you :-)
Fantastic review Joe, what a machine! #IdreamOfOwningAnAlpinaOneDay :)
Cheers Robert!
great review!
Joe, what was the interior upholstery and the trim for this 2017 B7? Thanks!
Sorry just seen this comment! It was a standard Merino leather interior. Cheers
Is this the same engine that they use in the B5?
Yeah it is
No mention in the video or its description of the pass road you were driving?
Quality Joe!
Cheers Charlie
Joe, how did the tyres hold up after all that driving ?
After 1000km of really hard driving (mostly dry tarmac), the front right needed replacing, it was just about legal when we returned this stunning car. I tried it on Summers during the final day, it was 30% better again :-)
Did you get a wry smile from Alpina when you returned the car ?? Why do you think the front right was so worn, is that due to those alpine roads, mostly right hand bends, also is there a bias towards front wheel drive ?
that sound😏
Great review👍👍
is this at the großglockner? :3
Yes buddy!
Wonderful car but why only RWD in the UK ?
glorious car!
Nice reviews
Dude the rs6 or this?!? I no different cars etc but what feels quicker as you spoke highly of the rs6 in your review
Difficult choice, I would go this though, better driver car believe it or not. Cheers
Great driver I wouldn’t dare try on them mountains.
Good video Joe. Will there be any more #JoeAndAaronChat episodes? Want to see more of Aaron.
Cheers man! I actually filmed a Q&A with Aaron, Tatbels and Sideway Sid on Sat, will be on here soon....
No worries! Ok, fab.
Sicktings buddy x
can u do comparison with the m760i
I will hopefully get my hands on a M760li soon and do a review.
Very cool video!
Only you would slide a 7 series on a wet mountain road haha. Great review Joe, really love what Alpina does. Hahaha I have to drive things to my limit, no matter what the car or cost ;-) Totally agree re the ALPINA touches, such an awesome brand and lovely bunch of people!
Top review! Awesome car! Think I'll av 1 for family bus when I win lottery 😂
So you preferred this to the M760LI? Is this faster than that?
Great video mate, inspired me to get out and shoot more content, ive been slacking 😦
Awesome great car B7 please I would like to watch this car in your petrolhead trip
looks beast from close up. six feet away it looks run of the mill :( suppose it's meant to be understated tho.
Agreed and yeah I think thats very ALPINA. Cheers
I can only imagine how good B5 will be :) A lot shorter and lighter with the same engine. It will be a rocket!
Yeah it will be incredible, only 80kg (ish) lighter though
Wow I thought 5 series is way lighter. But still I think it will be more agile for sure :)
Me too, but when I asked ALPINA, they pointed out the 7's have a carbon core shell that saves loads over even the 3 & 5 series shell. Yeah shorter wheelbase and still all wheel steering will make it more agile for sure!
great video as always 👌🏽
In my opinion, your the best car youtuber, because your a car guy.. you really enjoy driving and you're not driving around to enjoy some envious glances...
and your live videos are hilarious 😂😂👍🏽🍷
and you convinced me to order a m240i 😁 can't wait to take delivery of it in 2 weeks
Haha Cheers man! Yeah I'm a simple guy who loves driving :-) My live videos are getting out of control haha
Any comment on the regular BMW paddle shift vs. this one?
I personally prefer regular Paddles over the ALPINA buttons, I should have mentioned that but had forgotten.
Thanks Joe!!! Lastly, which engine sounds better for you when driving on the road?
The V8 in this one, the V12 is almost silent and BMW pipe fake sound around the cabin (which sounds okay but more M140/240 than ferrari V12)
This or an RS6 Joe ?
This, better handling, better ride, better tech. But you must remember this is more expensive
Joe Achilles what about vs a m760? Great video - pleased to see a proper review on a car like this!!
