    I had to remove this video - Someone watched this video and decided they liked what they were seeing, they purchased this actual car. Unfortunately the Approved salesman at Berry Chiswick agreed that I would remove my video on collection of car, neither Tony (TRL) or myself were made aware of this. All of a sudden I'm getting calls asking me to remove the video immediately because the new owner didn't like his car being driven hard on the internet. After calling the owner myself he agreed for the video to go live again providing I blur the plate and remove the first 5 second clip... At first I couldn't be bothered and just removed the video, once I had calmed down, I decided I couldn't pour all my efforts down the drain, so here is a shitty version of the original video.
    Anyone else who decides to buy an actual car from one of my videos, don't bother asking the video to be removed, I WONT REMOVE ANOTHER ONE!

      @BM_PAZ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Joe Achilles What was his problem then? I don't get why he/she would want it removed as they will always know it is their car in this video, blurred plate or not.

      What a bellend. Anyone know the reg ? 😂 edit: found it.
      Joe, all that hard work you did to make the original of this video is what made me put in an order for my own brand new M140i which I took delivery of 2 weeks ago. I still can’t believe they made you butcher your review of this great car. Did I mention the current owner of that car is a tosser ?

      Joe massive disappointment you had to do that. However the new owner bought a car that you ragged! Also bought one without the adaptive suspension haha!

      someone watched your video, where clearly impressed with content so much they wanted that car and then wanted the video removed, I personally would of made a fuss of thanking you and bragging I bought that actual car. some really silly peeps out there, your videos are great joe x

      The owner is a twat, can't undo what has already been done. I've just subscribed, your videos are always spot on. One thing I'm interested in is those back seats. Is it still the same cabin as the 3 series or is there less space?

    I need one of these for my next car. By far my favourite hot hatches and brands. You're also one of the favourite car youtubers Joe. A genuine down to earth guy that doesn't need 600hp to have a good time.

    Great Review Joe !
    I bought an M140i for the wife -she loves it great car! Loved the review but have to disagree with adaptive suspension option.
    That's because it's not configurable on the M140i- when in comfort mode throttle is too soft and engine note way too quiet- I like to leave in sport or sport plus great engine noise and sharp throttle response plus the standard dampers are more comfortable than the adaptive version in sport mode.
    Yes I'm sure on a track the adaptive sport mode would be faster round a track but on the road I'll take a better ride with the engine note and sharp throttle thanks.

    Your spot on about the mpg stuff, we do care about it. I have a 240i and I couldn't afford to run it if it did 23mpg at the most. it's economical when you want it to be and a beast when you want it to be. Perfect!

    I think BMW should be paying you commission ! I bought my 140 after watching Harris and your vid's on the 135's. Interesting comments on the car feeling less NA. I am a dyed in the wool Porsche guy and really wanted a Cayman but that really does feel turbo'd by comparison. The fact the Cayman had gone four pot and the small matter of the bimmer being 15k at least cheaper and the infinitely better experience at the dealer, mean't it was a no brain'er buying the M140. Great vid.

    I have my M140i Shadow on order for delivery at the end of July. Order placed through Tony Lewis at Berry - The guy is a legend - The discounts he sorted me for were amazing and made ordering a brand new M140i over a 2 year old M135i better value for me. Love watching your video's Joe. Keep up the good work dude!

      What was the deal you got, I've been shopping around for the M140 and the best deal so far has been from Sytner BMW. Currently with all the deposit contributions plus another 2k from me the cars is coming out around £370 -£400 ish per month.

      Pumping Iain I've got a lot of optional extras, 6k deposit and I'm at £300pcm. If you lookup Tony's section on babybmw.net you can see all his pricing to your own tailored needs.

      I'm currently getting a quote from Sytner, they seem very competitive. Also trading in my 2013 X5, bought from new and still looks amazon, though they're only offering me 18K as a trade in.

    I have my M140i for a week now and even though i have some kilometers to run it in, it already shows what an absolute gem it is. I absolutely not regret choosing the manual. I tested the auto and it was annoying me for several reasons.

    TRL here. Big fan of Joes work. We have plenty more reviews planned for the future.
    Update on our stock availability for M140. 3 doors sold out for rest of 2017. We hope
    To secure more 5 doors for Oct/Nov delivery. I will be away 12th to 26th July however.

    Less than a month to go before I get my shadow edition from Tony. Just my 2p worth - I haven't specced adaptive... currently in an a 330d loaner from BMW with adaptive and honestly I struggle to see the use case for it 90% of the time. I find it's only really enjoyable in comfort mode. The M140i I have driven with passive suspension seemed pegged somewhere between comfort and sport - seemed fairly sorted so hoping I won't regret it

  • @samgallo2346
    @samgallo2346 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Trade in your M135i! I traded my manual 135 in for an m140i similar to the one you tested in the video, best thing I ever did. got the best deal ever I think i'm paying £12 a month more than my 135 and got loads of extras with it like auto box etc I never thought I'd like the auto but after a few months with the zf8 I don't think i'll go back to a manual, incredible

    Great video and I totally agree. I got mine one month ago (zf, adaptive). It is a fantastic car. After work it is great to drive home in this liitle beast. I agree about the fuel consumption ( 1 l., 17/18 km) is possible. But when its playtime you will do about 1l./9km.A little car with a straight six will never be made again. Buy it! The ultimate affordable car for the petrolhead!

    • @JoeAchilles1
      @JoeAchilles1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @Kpiotr
      @Kpiotr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well all they do is either walkaround vids of newly released cars, show off their new toys or just read spec sheets. Nothing wrong with any of that, but I like the balance you've got there. However I think that people who dislike BMW or Alpina (for some odd reason) may not like your vids lol

  • @W00LFY100
    @W00LFY100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh Joe, your genuine passion for M Lites is infectious and I'm so glad a dealer has clicked on to this and lent you a car. I'm happy I put my deposit down last month as I believe contributions and discounts for this quarter have dropped and interest rates risen. If the next gen is a 4 pot God forbid then the 6 pots should hold their value and keep you in positive equity. I opted for a pre confirmed build slot so not long now!

    Couldn't agree more. The 140 and 240 are a lot of car for the money. As you say, get a six while you can and enjoy. Mine's on order! Good review BTW and I think you've nailed the differences between N55 and B58. I've come to the same conclusion that maybe even if you can stretch to a more expensive car, is it really worth it when these are so good (and generally more usable day to day)? They really hit the sweet spot between performance and liveability and slip under the radar with a lot of people, so you can park it and leave it without worrying too much and you aren't constantly being hassled on the street either.

  • @craigmccreath3182
    @craigmccreath3182 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I've got a m140i 3dr had it 2 months and it's the best car I've ever driven and the new b58 engine is such an improvement on the old n55. I'd recommend it over an s3 or golf r, also spec the adaptive I have it and it makes a world of difference.

    • @JoeAchilles1
      @JoeAchilles1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah agree re Adaptive for sure!

    • @limpet7r63
      @limpet7r63 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Main advantage of Adaptive in my opinion is the much better ride you get in Comfort mode. The standard suspension is like having Adaptive suspension stuck in Sport mode all the time, which is a bit harsh on crumbling road surfaces. With adaptive, it rides beautifully in Comfort for when you just want to cruise about in comfort.

    As always, great pleasure viewing your vids. As you say, this is the "bargain" of the year (if not more).
    Personally, on my M140i, I changed the Sports mode to have the adaptive suspensions left in normal mode. I only use the Comfort mode in highways and in towns, rest of the time I'm usually in Sport mode because of the better throttle response.
    Cheers from France.

    Awesome review Joe, again very to the point. I had the pleasure to review the M140i as well (but in German), the adaptive dampers are indeed a mayor step up, while you get like 70% of the performance of an M2. So you have a lot of excitement mixed with everyday comfort. Additional to that, BMW told me, they've increased the noise & vibration isolation compared to the M135i, can you feel / hear a difference?
    Sidenote: Many thanks again for your exciting M2 videos, I just put in an order for one yesterday. Long Beach Blue and 6MT :)

    Hit the nail as always Joe.
    The practicality of the car is a mega plus for me. I had mine loaded up for a camping trip in Snowdonia this weekend.
    I had a full boot and still had a blast on the Welsh roads.
    mines a weekend car mainly I've only done 2.5k miles since December but it's a cracking car.
    I agree there is nothing that matches it within its price range.

    Been looking forward to this review all week again a great vid Joe, many many thanks please keep them coming! I have had my 140i now for a month, an auto without the adaption suspension option. As I did not test drive a 140i with this option prior to ordering mine I can only pass comment on my experience of only the standard suspension set up. To me it's fine, a little hard on some roads but adequate enough for me, a fifty year old! I drive mine in sport mode everywhere primarily to hear the throaty exhaust note and better throttle response. Like you I love this car to bits great value for money, performance and very subtle! The last of the 6 pot, rear wheel drive hot hatches, what a tragedy...

    Great work Joe - I'm a big fan of your content.
    I'm a uni student who runs a modified manual 130i. I absolutely love my 130i and see a lot of similarities between it and the M140i. The M140i seems to have everything I love about the 130i (except NA) but with loads more power and torque and a new interior with plenty of tech.
    M140i costs 70k in Australia so they are unattainable for me today but I can't wait to pick one up in 2-3 years. I have even decided what spec I want in large part due to your videos haha.

  • @stephenbates41
    @stephenbates41 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're correct about it flattening off just after 5k revs. I recently had mine on a rolling road and it produced 351bhp standard, but you could see the power and torque tail off on the graphs. It also proves that the tuning boxes, like on your M135i, are pretty accurate as if the power continued (on the graph) you could see it getting towards the 420 bhp mark. I can send you a copy if you like.
    Keep them coming 👍

  • @AnonymousAndy2
    @AnonymousAndy2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I went old school and bought a manual without adaptive suspension and think it is awesome. As for having to have adaptive suspension I would disagree as I think the ride is fine and I’m old (52 :o) And the Surrey B roads are crap! My car came without run flats, so that helps. UPDATE, after a few months I started to find ride too firm. Fitted Bilstein B8 dampers all round, sorted.
    Mine is a 2017 with cruise, HK, Pro nav, heated seats, front & rear parking aids, privacy glass & led enhanced something!
    I did have to retrofit lumbar support as the sports seats need it in my opinion.

    Owned my new M140i (manual 3dr) for two months and they are a brilliant buy if you can get the discount.
    I paid 26k for a decent specced version with 7k discount off the original 33k selling price.
    Coming from two E46 M3's, the only downfall is the lack of an LSD and when really pushed, it lacks a sense of 'occasion'.
    In its defence, it's not a true M car but then neither is it the price of a full fledged M.
    Go for Estoril Blue with black leather and have the gloss black kidney grills, just looks stunning.

    Hi!
    Yes I know, it s an old video.
    But I m trying to get a M135/140, so I m searching every possibile info about.
    And I discovered your videos are the best, really detailed.
    I m from Italy, and for the last 2 yrs I used as a Daily car, and for entertainment, a 125D pre restyling in the neighbour of 270 bph and 550 Nm, with zf8hp.
    It s an incredibly rewarding car to drive, even very quickly, but It s a known fact only for those who owns It... For everybody else It s Just another "so and so" Quick diesel.
    Nothing could be more far from reality, of course:
    the Power delivery Is VERY " gasoline style", and the rev limiter Is at 5400/', and you can use all of them.
    Anyway:
    Now I have the desire to go to the next level, so begun to think to M135/140.
    My (big...) doubt Is:
    how much difference can do, 135/140, in Daily driving experience, in comparison to my 125D?
    Consider that during the week I use the car in city environment, Rome traffic, lots of stop & go, and in the weekend I go to drive pretty hard in curvy roads, in the mountains of center Italy.
    As I told, my 125D is really Quick and fun, in that environment.
    It s really difficult , for me, Imagine to go quicker, because the 125D Is often a bit "too much"🙄.
    But the ownership of the last 6IL in such a small car, is pretty appealing to me.
    I would like to have your opinion.
    Thanks.

    Bought a 320I E36 Convertible, picking it up tonight. It has the 6-pot too, pure music Joe! Bought at a very good price and because you were telling us to buy 6-pots while we could (meaning new ones) but the older ones are getting rare too haha.

    Hi Joe, another great vid. Have been running-in my 240i now for two weeks and smiling like a Cheshire cat every time I get in it is that good and fun. Can do with more colourful exhaust notes so I'm stumping up for an M Performance version soon. Yes torquey! Thinking I was driving my Golf, I smoked the tyres when leaving the showrooms. Dealer had also told me the next 240i will use a 4 pot mill. Great ride from amazingly supple+planted adaptive suspension that makes our crap Aussie roads feel decent.

    Hi Joe, like you M140 review. I used to run a 2013 M135 manual with adaptive dampers. I really loved the car except for the suspension & the gearbox / clutch. I found the suspension in comfort too soft and uncontrolled on the road and in sport too stiff on the road and not stiff enough on the track. In summary under-damped in comfort & over-damped in sport! In addition my particular car had an unacceptable rattle/knocking from the suspension over undulations. BMW tried to repair the car over a period of 11 weeks in a year but after apparently replacing all suspension and steering related components failed to solve the suspension knocking & rattling. In the end they told me it was a characteristic of the car!! As for the manual gearbox I found this very vague and knotchy & the cutch too heavy & long - on the track in would not change down from 3rd to second under enthusiastic braking. The flywheel and clutch assembly were replaced to no avail. Out of complete frustration I ordered a Mk 3 Focus RS which after 12 months turned up and for various reasons I ran for 4 months and then swapped foe an M240 sports auto with passive dampers. This car is perfect. It is refined, fast, can also do hooning and track as well 😀. My personal recommendation for any prospective M140/240 buyer would be PASSIVE DAMPERS & SPORTS AUTO. Steve

    I test drove one and FREAKING loved it better than the golf r and Audi s3 I was thinking off but my current 1 series 116D is so tail happy I’m certain a m140i would make a widow of my wife so I changed tack n went for a Audi A5 Coupe with standard 2l engine. Hopefully I won’t be too disappointed when it lands on my drive in March 19, that turn of pace is so seductive and I knew I wasn’t strong willed enough to not exploit it every time I got behind the wheel.

    I've been looking to exchange my M235i for an M240 and I'm noticing the vast majority of M140's and M240's for sale don't have adaptive suspension equipped. I think at 30k I only found two 2018 cars in this bracket that had the adaptive suspension equipped. I'm test driving an M240 next week that doesn't have this option, I hope I'm not disappointed.

    In my experience there is no big difference between the 35i and 40i in power and fuel economy. I think it is not worth to change the Mx35i to a Mx40i.
    Did you notice the cold start the M140i does on every start up even if the engine is warm?

    My M135 looks almost exactly the same inside. Oyster leather interior, Black, Privacy Windows, Pro Nav, auto but I do have the suspension as per your and Chris Harris suggestion. Adaptive suspension makes it even more of a jekyll and hide car as a daily as its very comfortable in traffic in Comfort. Would love the couple extra horses that comes with the 140 but I actually prefer the pre facelift 135 front end.

    Hi Joe, I found similar with the engine and exhaust note when I drove the M140i a couple of weeks ago. I only had it for a few hours but your comments in the video echo what I thought at the time in that yes you can notice the increased power & torque (especially the torque) but the engine/exhaust note isn't quite as loud/noticeable as in the M135i and when you get 'up it' (through 4k, 5k) it just doesn't sound quite as good.
    The demo car I borrowed had the adaptive dampers fitted (as does my M135i) but someone had ticked the RunFlat Tyre option so I had to try and balance that in my head when comparing how it handled. I think the M140i does handle a bit more deftly than the M135i; a bit more planted in the rear when pushing on and turn in seemed a little sharper too. Such a shame it had those tyres on rather than the default MPSS's.
    Anyone contemplating a M140i, please, please, please get the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres and stay well away from the RunFlats. The difference is truly night & day.
    I'm curious Joe, are you planning on ordering an M140i or did your other recent video on the upgrades you've just made to your M135i answer that question already? ;)
    I thought the ZF auto software was much better on the M140i though; smoother shifts, drops into 8th at cruising speed in Sport (M135i always holds 7th) and if you've just pulled on paddles for a quick downshift or upshift which puts it in 'temp' manual mode, pulling on right paddle and holding drops it back into normal auto rather than having to wait. The new iDrive was better too, much slicker looking :)

    Great vid. I can understand why someone today would prefer an m140 over an m135...but in future long term keepers might value the 'fun' aspect of the N55 more. It's about diminishing returns...if I already have enough power (let's get real), why accept worse noise (for example) for even more power? Better a whopper with chips than a double whopper alone...

    M140 is great I almost went for it... however in Ireland, getting an M2 is the same price monthly on contract due to higher reselling value of the M2 and catastrophic resell values of x40i cars here. That said I'm more than pleased with the M2 ^^

  • @Nightfly1957
    @Nightfly1957 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are absolutly right. And the m140i has not 340HP, my friend is working at the TÜV. He can measure the power of every car. And so no surprise. There is no m140i with 340HP and a torque of 500 Nm. So i was also testing my car. Yes, i have 365,5 HP and a torque of 550 Nm. Why does BMW do this ? Ther first M2 had 370 PS. So it was better to make a bigger difference. And BMW told of 340HP and a torque of 500 Nm. Otherwise no one would buy the first M 2.The M2 competition has more than 400HP.
    And it is legal. An engine may have 10% more or less of power. So 340 HP +34HP = 374HP.
    When i was driving here in Germany on a Highway (A43), which is rather high-pitched, i was behind this M2. He could not drive more than 245 km/h. He had to go to the right side and i had no problem to overtake this car with about 270 km/h.The driver of the M2 had a red head: Maybe he thougt, that this is not true.Well, i programmed the limit of 250 km/h away.
    And the m140i with the adabtive chassis is a car with two cars inside. If You are using the ECO Pro Mode and put the Tempomat to 130km/h it needs 6,7l fuel on a higway. My 125i, which i had before, needed 7,5 l fuel. Normaly driving in D Mode and in a town i need 9l fuel. Until 160 km/h the car is at 10l fuel. But if You choose sport mode and drive more than 240 km/h the car needs about 16l. But this speed You can not drive, Many cars change to the left side and it is very difficult to slow down. In Gemany it is mostly good to drive between 140km/h and 160 km/h. Yes You should buy it. The new m135i with 4 Cylinders is a shame in my opinion. My sales assistant has a very good connection to Munich. Yes it is true tha the car has betweeen 360 HP or more. And: BWW did not get the price they wanted. Every m140i they lost about 250 EURO. Important is to drive the car warm. Oil should be at 80 Grad Celsius. Most of the time the power is not used and the B 58 engine makes about 500.000 km. If You are lookinfgfor an m140i/m240i the car must have all controls. If this is not fact, thane do not buy the car. Young people, which have just got the driving licence get this car as a present of the father. And they are driving absolutly insane. Please excuse my bad English, but i think You know what i mean. Wish You all the very best and sent many greetings from Germany.
