WOW James! I just saw your oldest video on your channel. I’m impressed in how well your production has improved! For the first time I saw your face. Your newer videos focus on your work & less on you. You avoid the camera’s eye. Your technique in filming have improved dramatically. Your lighting is perfect now & your hands free camera is a huge improvement! I’m still patiently waiting for a repair on a Honda EU 7000is.
I want to thank you for this video, you saved my butt down here in Florida, I started my generator yesterday and started to run it and check its output but forgot to check the air filter before starting it up. The sponge air filter had deteriorated over a few years being stored in the heat of the garage and basically turned to an oily dirt which got sucked into the carburetor clogging it and stopping the generator. So I just want to remind everyone before you start your engine, check everything, clean gas with stabilizer, spark plug and air filter. Also in an emergency like this, since no one local carries Suburu parts, I picked up a grout sponge at Home Depot to use as an air filter until I can get one shipped Thanks again !
Nice job. Interesting the algorithm kept back the older vids pre-tripod until I’d watched all the modern ones. Your channel is great to have on in background while staring at code etc.
I'm finding it hard to believe that you have a video with the exact generator and problem that I'm having. I'm usually never lucky enough to find something dead on like this, and with all the details included. I paid someone $150 last year to get it running when it wouldn't start, so when it wouldn't start this year I decided I was going to tackle it myself. Just got the carb off and following your instructions to clean it. Thanks so much for your work.
Video was very helpful. Mine would run for about a minute, then started surging and cut out entirely. The carb was really stuck on there, and required a lot more foul language than I anticipated to remove. My pilot jet seemed to be different - instead of a small hole, it was a tiny metal filter/aerator? - that seemed to be gunked up. I wound up cleaning it with wd 40 and a wire -embarrassingly, I got the wire by stripping the plastic off a twist tie from a loaf of bread. Everything else seemed clean. when I put it back together, I needed to play with the choke to work the wd-40 through, but then it ran great once it got going. Runs smoother than it has in years. Thanks!!
Thanks. Mine also sat for several years with fuel in it. Checked out your video and cleaned up the carb. The main jet was plugged and not allowing fuel to move from the bowl to the intake. Started right up.
Great video, just picked one up that is t running but not putting power. Took the gas tank off to replace the rubber isolator and fuel valve and the wire harness to the panel was disconnected/ broken. So hopefully that’s all it is. Other wise I just went on amazon and bought a cheap carb and new isolator gaskets for 20 bucks with prime .
Thank you so much - I watched two of your videos and felt so much more comfortable disassembling the fuel line, carburetor and air filter.. i did everything you said and got my generator thats not worked in 3 years working. There wasn’t much gunk or debris, I think the pin / needle just got a little stuck so no fuel. Your blowing trick was the thing that solved it for me. Thanks again!!
Thank u very much for the excellent tutorial. The same exact problem I was having. However I couldn't find small brushes so I used 22 gage solid copper wire (i stripped insulation off) and that took care of the clog.
Thanks! I'm new at these small engines but I have the same Robin EX30 carb all cleaned up except I'm not sure if there is a port at the bottom of the cavity for the pilot (or idle) jet? If it is, mine is clogged with varnish, hard get out or tell what's there. For wires I used guitar strings. It's nice because there are a variety of gauges
The bottom of the pilot jet does have a hole. I use a wire from a wire bristle brush. It is the only thing small enough and strong enough to get through those clogs. I have heard guitar strings work well.
You might be able to take a busted cable or something and take that end it and run that down there and twist that maybe that or get some more out of the bend in that tube?
Hey buddy I have the same one but mine idleing super high The fill valve was clogged I cleaned that N everything else is clear It runs but I have to put a little gas in the carb to get it started
Hi James. Thanks for your video tutorials. I picked up a similar Husky Generator. It wouldn't start so I cleaned the carb by following your instruction minus the ultrasonic cleaner. After the cleaning, It starts and runs for about 35 secs and stops. This cycle repeats every time I start it. I filled up the oil tank which was basically empty. Any advise is appreciated.
Demola James sounds like it is starving for fuel or maybe the low oil sensor is killing spark. Check the oil level first. If ok, start. It again. When it stalls shut the gas valve off immediately and pull the bowl drain bolt on the carburetor and see how much fuel comes out (catch with a cup). If not much then might have a restriction in the fuel line, filter or carburetor needle and seat. If ok then only left with a clogged jet, but would think more likely spark. You could buy a spark tester and run it with the tester connected to see if spark is going away or you could disconnect the low oil sensor. If you are low on oil the generator might start but then stall 5-30 seconds after starting. Also a bad low oil switch or low oil module could cause a similar issue.
Also starting at 9 minutes on the following video I troubleshoot spark issue starting 9 minutes in and continues on and off for the rest of the video. This video is not published yet and is not complete. The link will probably only work for a few days. th-cam.com/video/apZaeJijBzo/w-d-xo.html

@@jcondon1 Nah no need to do that. It is good stuff and shows how much of a progress you have made in your channel along with your videoing and editing skills. Keep up the good work, i enjoy watching these types of videos!
Sounds like it is running lean. Either the main jet or pilot jet are still clogged. Another possibility is a gasket between the carb and engine is not good and air is getting in. I will be posting another Husky video this weekend dealing with a surging issue. How much choke do you have to give it to stay running?
@@jcondon1 I have to give it pretty much full choke. I just bought a new gasket between the engine and carb. Maybe I got the wrong one. Also how does the black hose that goes from the air cleaner into the engine connect on the engine side? Mine seems to just slide into the engine side. FYI, the float was really stuck, gummed up. Could it be that is still sticking?
Besides the jets, the 4 small holes by the throttle butterfly throat wall could be gummed up. Any difference when running with a load and how much you have to choke it? If all clear then you should buy new jets or use micro drill bits to ensure your old jets are clear. On the one I just fixed I think the pilot jet is a micro drill bit #79 and main jet micro bit #64. I had to get them from amazon. No hardware stores by me had these sizes.
Usually the gasket is not the problem. Just make sure the old gasket was completely removed first and the new one does not obstruct air flow. The black crankcase breather hose just slides in. Lean condition could be caused by the fuel level being too low in the bowl. The easy test for float level would be to remove the carb, remove the bowl turn upside down and see if the float is level (parallel) with bottom of carb. Needle and float issues usually lead to stalling due to lack or fuel or flooding over because the needle is not closing the fuel flow off. The jet holes and holes by the throttle butterfly throat are the problem 80% of the time with the symptoms you describe. Another possibility is the rubber o-ring that goes around the pilot jet is bad or the pilot jet is not pushed in all the way allowing air to be sucked through the top of the carb where the pilot jet goes in.
Thanks, as I was taking the carb apart again, I just noticed that the rubber tip on the needle is cracked some. Do you think can cause any problems, should I replace the needle? Do you know where I can order one from?
Great video. Preparing for Hurricane Laura in southeast Texas and what do you know my generator would not start. Watched your video and after cleaning the carburetor as you did, BINGO starts right up.Only issue I had after turning the fuel on it leaked out fuel, so tightned down the nuts on top of filter , not shure if I over tightend them. Any way to tell if there too tight? Otherwise its up and running and ready for use.
Hello James, This has been a sticking point of mine for a few years. Every time I take it to be serviced it will work for a month or so and the problems begin with the fuel in the carburetor. My mechanic keeps cleaning out the carb and I does the same thing. My question is, can the bowl be removed without pulling the carb of to be given a quick cleaning when it starts to act up?
Great video, thank you. I have this model generator, it hasn’t been started in 5 years, but after watching the video and getting the carb cleaned, it fired right up. Unfortunately, now I’m having a small problem starting it, is sounds like it’s getting too much fuel, and won’t start at all, unless I remove the air filter, and even then it runs rich and sputters, and finally gets going after about two or three minutes. Any ideas?
Usually they do not run rich enough. Assume if you choke it a little it get worse. If so then is the carb OEM or a clone? I ask because the clone carbs for these engines do run rich. If OEM and choking it makes it worse, would double check that the main jet is screwed in properly. Otherwise is the a possibility that you increased the jet size when cleaning it?
@@jcondon1 Thanks for getting back with me so quickly. This unit is all original, I purchased it new, and only used two or three times. And yes, choking it makes it worse, I restricted the flow of fuel by turning the inline valve half way closed, and once it starts running I open it back up.

I always use fuel stabilizer and keep the tank full. Do not store in extreme temperatures like a shed. Do not store outside. Water almost always gets into the fuel and will rust out a metal tank and carburetor. After a year I drain the fuel and out and put in my car and add fresh stabilized fuel in the generator . If nothing else, shut the fuel valve off. If the carb has a drain open it and remove all fuel from the carb. I then turn the engine over, with the ignition on and try to start. That helps clear anything left in the carburetor passages. If no drain then I shut the fuel off and run until it stalls (no electric devices plugged in). Lastly I turn the engine over slowly until I feel the compression stroke and stop. The valves are now closed. It will prevent a valve from sticking open and moisture causing rust in the cylinder.
