I had a B2 level before starting med school, then I got cocky and thought "Hey I know a lot, I can retake it once I start clinical" 🥲🥲🥲 ask me if I remember anything. I DON'T. Sure I am able to understand people when they talk to me, but I can't formulate a single sentence.
Please people, don't stop!!!! Even if you choose not to enroll in any language course, try watching films in German every once in a while, or reading in German, even talking to people you know who speak it, and if you don't know anyone who speaks German I am sure there are internet sites to help you with it (Discord groups, Reddit maybe?) 🥲

Just got my results from B2 Goethe exam today and passed, thank you for all the advices and videos !
I recommend for people that have some money on the side and want to learn german the fastest way possible to book an intensive course in Germany ( for example with Goethe Institute or with an another company), but book it when you already have around high A2 - B1 german knowledge. I participated in this intensive course for 1 month, it is Monday - Friday 5-6 hours a day, and outside courses you still use german in town and with collegues. In only 1 month my german knowledge skyrocketed so much it is unbelieveable, every aspect from speaking, writing, listening improves drastically.

Do i need to study basic sciences (Anatomy ,Physiology , Pharmacology ...etc ) in order to do FSP exam well ? some people have mentioned they were asked questions from basic sciences during their FSP exam ?

Thanks for the advices! I have a question about the language exam I need in Switzerland. Do I need also C1 medical FSP? Or is it ok Goethe C1? What do you think is better? To write Goethe C1 or FSP C1?
Hello! That was pretty useful! I'm now starting my 4th year and I've had a B2 from Goethe since I was 15, I recently went back to start trying for my C1. My question is, is there any other way to gain hands-on experience in German in a medical environment other than Erasmus? My faculty is relatively newly-founded and has no affiliations with german universities yet. I've heard of a concept in german medical education called "Famulatur". Are you aware of that or whether it's possible for a foreigner to join one?
Yes, go do a Hospitation in Germany :) I did that for 2 months after (miraculously) passing the TELC B2 and It helped me alot with my medical German. You don’t gey payed, but the skills you get are priceless. Furthermore, it often leads to a job offer, if you have proven to be and engaged and adaptative worker.
Absolutelly right, I couldnt have said it better. You could go 1 or 2 months in summer or do the 6 th year obligatoriy practices there. Without Erasmus you may not get paid though.

You mentioned after taking the FSP, the approbation came in after 2 months and after one month you had started working.
After receiving the approbation, how long more or less does it take to find a specialty position and start working?
I'm gonna do hospitation for 3 months while applying for approbation and preparing for the FSP. Would it be smart to apply ahead to another hospitation after the first 3 months? So that I wouldn't just be sitting at home waiting for the approbation and to start residency?
I personally already had the job lined up and waiting for me to get approved.
You could try doing practices in the specialty that you want. That way they might offer you a full time position for later
Hello. sorry to randomly show up in your comment, but i was curious to know how you were accepted for hospitation in Germany. Did you just randomly apply to clinics/hospitals? Was your german level already good by then? I just had my B2 after a yr in Germany and i dont really know what to do next
@@jessicad.f5485 Just wrtie application letters for a Hospitation. I kept applying and getting silence until one hospital accepted me for 2 months, and that’s where I did the Approbation process and got a job offer.
The smaller and remote the hospitals you apply at - the higher the probablity that they are stuggling to hire personal.

As a language instructor, I don't think it was wrong of you to have "learned my German mostly from what I heard from people". To my mind, this is how most people acquire language successfully. Your point about needing to adjust your language to convention-bound ("grammatical") report language is well taken, however.
It does puzzle me that you wouldn't communicate in English if you needed to during your Erasmus stints. That's admirable in a way but was it not cutting off your nose to spite your face, especially as the main point of your visit was to get experience as a doctor?
Doctor please advise me. i graduated last year medical school and couldn't match into residency in my country. I started learning german ome year after graduation 😢 I'm learning the language smoothly but i am worried i am gonna waste many more years to get the residency and start working
If you worry about wasting the coming 2 to 3 years of your working life just keep in mind that you will still need to work for the following 35 + years after that.
In other words, its only wasted if you fail or give up on the way. So if you did your research and know that with effort and time you will make it, its not a waste but an investment.
Still make sure that you qualify for the recognition and that the path ahead of you is clearly defined.

I think the language schools do teach a bit of it along the normal hoch Deutsch courses, bit it isn't really a structured thing you can learn. There is no structured grammar and it changes from Kanton to Kanton
Hello Eutopia. just stumbled unto your page. so i am 48 years old , already practising in the capacity of a consultant physician in my home country ( third world country). i want to immigrate to Germany to work as a doctor. i am just wondering my chances of getting an employment there. must i be employed into residency or can i work as a doctor without doing residency
Being a consultant physician makes the recognition process easier in comparison with other doctors that come without it. I encourage you to contact directly the institutions responsible for the recognition process. Around the second half of Marc or by April I will upload a comprehensive video with a lot of useful information. Make sure you watch it when it comes up!
