  • This is drill #11 in my swim book Simple Swims:practices for balanced stable swimming.
    Swimming on the mat! You can do this at home. Get a feel for movement, alignment, core muscles, balance, and timing. Yes, it can be awkward to do this on the mat, make the best of it! Set up your own camera so you can take a vide0 of yourself doing this exercise, then compare.

      Good to hear, it can be awkward on the ground but so worth it to get more oriented. Do videotape yourself so you can see your own alignment. I learn so much when I see myself-eye opening!

    what comes first, shifting weight and rotating the hips or the kick?

    • @TriathlonSkills-SimpleSwims
      @TriathlonSkills-SimpleSwims  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HI Stefan, I feel that they all happen at the same time, gravity in the weight shift pulling the high side hip down plus the recovery arm, the leg swing helps the weihgt shift. I feel as the recovery hand enters, all happen to aid each other.

    As you turn for each stroke then the feet from apposite side raises , does it mean that in the water we have to kick with that feet? Right right hand feet kick when you are stroking on the left?

    • @TriathlonSkills-SimpleSwims
      @TriathlonSkills-SimpleSwims  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Miranda, you can organize it in a few ways, all the same except where you place your attention. When your right hand goes in, the left leg(opposite side) kicks down. You can also notice that as the left hand "comes back" , the left leg goes down or kicks. This is for a two beat kick or as i like to call it the pendulum legs. I hope this is clear and helpful. Cheers.

      TriathlonSkills with Celeste St. Pierre thank you for your reply. I have also problem with my feet sinking, i have overthought about and any time i forced it more to stay floating then the worse position it gets and also my whole body sink in following . Even pushing my chest out caused my shoulders to be tightened and not relaxed . I even tightened the bottom of my tummy as it is recommended to tighten those muscles that would bring up legs to float but i didn't understand how?

      @@negin8537 try this drill to do on land and then in the water. If you do Yoga the "cat cow" will apply to the water. Separate your hips sinking from the legs sinking-two different things. th-cam.com/video/OBe5brYTtWU/w-d-xo.html

      Your right, for most swimmers, the wrong leg is up!
      And the exercise trains bad technique: low elbow instead of high elbow!
      Really bad advice!
