This is a brief review and first attempt to cut a house key (LW4 keyway) with a DEFU 368A vertical key cutting milling machine. This type of machine is not made to cut keys like this, it's more for cutting security keys, but it's something I wanted to know when I was looking to buy this machine.

Awesome. Just bought one of these for some car keys and had wondered if it could find occasional use for garage or house keys. Nice bonus!

I have the same machine and I am able to cut house keys as well as motorcycle keys with the machine. I use a wire wheel to clean the burr off of the cut key.

Do you do it top on like in the above vid or do you do it side on? I've seen attachments that will hold a key side on, so I was wondering.

I don't know how you managed to get your traced to follow and go into the deeper cuts in your original key? Usually when you cut these on a horiozontal machine the tracer bit is shaped like the end of a chisel with a point on it.?

Its funny, ive just asked if i can cut cylinder keys in my vertical cutting machine i just bought, a Silca twister II, an di was told by the dealer no! I don't see why they can't! An dyou just proved it as i thought.
But i thought it could be done with the key lying flat and just cutting the edges, like with a laser cut key. But good to see this video though!

On the other customer, this cheap automatic (hands off during cutting) Chinese key cutting machine 598A model (ordered from ebay) did not cut 2016 Toyota corollla keys right after 2-3 tries, wasted 2 keys. Most of the times it cut fine but maybe due to worn out master, this time was different and the machine could not trace fine enough idk. Any tips on cutting from worn out master. Anyways Walmart machine cut it ok.
Any reasonable key cutting you can recommend for a few hundred dollars?

I'm not familiar with the 2015 Chevy Silverado key, but from a quick google it looks like it's a laser style key and should be ok, but you would have to confirm yourself.

Came across this video about a month ago. I had just ordered in a 368A machine. Did 2 GM keys with the flip remote with it so far. First key I made I destroyed it. Too deep of a cut that once I cut the other side of the key I actually cut right through. The next 2 came out perfect. As I was mentioning I remember this video and you cutting a house key. Well I have 2 Ford Transponder key blanks coming in for a 2000 Mercury Marquis that are cut similiar and will have to set them up in the jaws as you did. They have cuts top and bottom so I will have to turn the key over for the 2nd cut. Should have them in any day. Wish me luck. Any thoughts fire away. I am not a locksmith. Did some searches on the net to see if the 368A machine can cut Ford Transponder keys of the sort I am talking about but came up blank. I guess I will be the Guinea pig.

I just used the one that could fit on the flat spots on the keys that the pins rest on. From memory it is the smallest cutting bit.
I've since cut more keys on the side and used a sacrificial spacer (wood) that also gets milled trough which made the job a bit easier. I finished each key with a file though.

The machine is good for "laser" keys, but it's not very good for house keys.
I ended up buying a normal key cutting machine for house keys and if you're doing more than a couple of keys, it's well worth using the correct style of key cutting machine instead. It's a lot less hassle to lign up the keys etc.

You can use it to cut normal keys as well as laser.
It doesn't do the best job of cutting standard keys, a standard key cutting machine is a better option for cutting standard keys.
