As a tutor working with dyslexic students, these are fairly common situations you encounter: teacher who doesn't recognize signs of dyslexia, parents in denial, students who achieve below their potential and that really doesn't have to be this way. With the right tools, some of them can do even much better than a lot of their peers. I think this comic is awesome at explaining what dyslexia feels like for children. :)

yup same except for the official diagnosis and the teacher apologizing! but I hope that's just because dyslexia awareness was shit in the 80s. I have given thought to getting tested now as an adult but, I always get the feeling that adult diagnosis isn't the same as childhood diagnosis due to the fact there are so many fake dyslexics who lie about it. tbh I only found this vid because I was looking for vids about ppl who falsely claim dislexia and how it hurts real dyslexics.

I don't think I have dyslexia, but it almost seems like I have something similar. I learn differently from everyone else that I know of, but I learn easier than others because I don't care about the way they do it, and just do it my own way. I am highly intelligent and very creative, and I'm literally incapable of learning when I'm not enjoying myself. A boring teacher or assignment is enough to ruin a whole month for me. Basically what I'm trying to say is that school doesn't care if you're a bit different than others. If you're not completely average, you need to figure out most things on your own. Which is a really important problem in today's schools.
I think a lot of teachers are still in the mind set that all kids are ok and if don't do something right or dont show up that they are lazy, yes there are teachers that understand kids have depression, anxiety, dyslexia, ADHD and other things but with the amount of teachers who dont and lack of support for the kids and the amount of homework piled up each night, school is becoming so hard. They want to "academically challenge" us but instead we are pushed to our limits and boiling points. I for example have extreme depression and mild anxiety, and adhd but because our teachers are giving us so much homework(as in, read 12 pages of a textbook, do a project and while your at it do this paper, just for one class) its made me sick to my stomach with anxiety because if the kids dont finish it your punished. Its just become so hard for the kids with different illnesses to function properly in school. My school is one of the best in the state as said by test scores, but in reality it sucks, you have to wake up at five am after youve been up all night doing homework, their is bulling, really really rude teachers and kids, more homework and you dont get a second of down time, even on the weekends.
I have always learned diffrently than others, and was haveing a really hard time back in 2nd and 3rd grade. A few weeks into 3rd grade my mom had me tested for dislexia. I am a levle 4 (our of 5). I had always been super briliant at everything but english, but I always suffered really hard in english. I am currently one of the highest grades in the honors class of my college prepitory school. Although I still find English hard, I am doing great and have learned to love reading. It really helps that this year my English teacher has dislexia too. She let's me take all my a sign ment home and rewright them on my laptop to check for spelling. It may be more work, but it's worth the better grade. I'm dyslexic and french. I always wanted to be a teacher to help some kid in school for them to live it better. Now, I'm in first year in college. And watching this video help me to stay motivated to work hard enough to do what needs to be done.
I've taught many Dyslexic students before, and if found they are Dyslexic I promise them I won't let them fail. I havent had a student yet whos failed due to Dyslexia.
I have never felt so understood in one video....ive never been tested for dyslexia but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I have a form of it. I can't even describe how relateable this video was...thanks for making this sir/miss. I've always excelled at art but struggled with many other things...ill try to focus more on my talents than the fact that i don't learn the same way as others. +WarriorOfTheHeavens Nothing wrong with using the spell checker, I use it all the time. lol. One thing that really bugs me is when people bully us about our English. Just because their English is perfect, they seen to have a massive chip on their shoulder, and it is not edible! LOL. However, when someone is kind, and offers help by correcting something. I praise them. When I was in school I was taught ITA English. It was total Twaddle and put me behind with reading and writing. I am sure they did this on purpose to keep the working class people down in the gutter.
Realate a lot to this. Schools really still dont understand and accommodate completely which I know from experience. Also this video is great-really educational. I have a specific learning disability (dislexia but not the conventional type as they said, every case is different. I've always beeen a great reader) my main problem being slow processing speed. I always struggled with school. I was always told I was untidy, unorganised, a daydreamer and slow until I got tested. (And after by ppl that still don't get it) It's really important to know that you have dislexiya bc it can really make you feel stupid and misunderstood. It does make many aspects of life harder not just school. Everyone has unique things they're good at, we need to nurture that and accept how people learn and think 💭 ❤️

Why is the treatment of this problem so expensive? What if someone is struggling their hardest to deal with their child's dyslexia expenses, I mean if someone is poor? Doesn't the child has the right to study and escape all the negative comments?

As about the teachers usually they don't apologize after everything and don't really care much about your problems and i am not talking about all teachers i had few that were very caring about it as i am still going to school i have one of the teachers that somewhat understands me because his brother also has dyslexia and i am very thankful to him. Gunna go to bath university, do a course in 3d Design. School was really hard for me, and I hate all those people on the internet that associate stupidity with bad spelling. I've got A levels in phycology, philosophy, art, and technology. I refuse to put the fact that I am dyslexic on my personal statement, since I want to be accepted into a university because I am outstanding, not because they think that I'm outstanding 'for a dyslexic'. Dyslexia and ADHD are normal to demigods,dyslexia being interpreted as one's brain being hardwired to greek or latin,thus having difficulties with other languages besides latin and greek.ADHD on the other hands is an advantage for combat as it helps reactions(or some bullshit like that I guess). When I was about 9 years old (primary 5) my mum was advised by a neighbour who also happened to be the local doctor, that I may be dyslexic, he told her where I could be tested. I was tested and it was positive. I attended a small two-teacher school, and at the time, I was taught by the headteacher. Although I believe the school was informed of this event nothing really changed. My teacher retired about a year later and his successor was never informed. I know this from a conversation my mother had some years later, it didn't surprise me. No one really acknowledged my dyslexia apart from my Mother and to be honest, I dismissed it myself. School was a disaster I never seemed to understand things and was always way behind everyone else. it was horrible and embarrassing. I couldn't hide this in school but outside school did all I possibly could to cover it up, which made me feel very isolated with the problem. Although I left school at 15 with no qualifications, my working life has been mostly happy , despite having some frustrations for not achieving ambitions I've had. My work has always been physical I am reasonably fit, can work hard , have a good sense of humour and have always enjoyed having a good relationship with the other guys. Three years ago I was headhunted for the job I'm in now, although the work is still physical, it has meant having to take some courses. which I have found to be challenging, to say the least, and during the tests, I was always the last to leave the room but somehow managed to get my paper in before time was up, and I now have the certificates I need. However, this was an experience I didn't enjoy, too much like school, I was embarrassed by how much I kept falling behind in class. I was able to catch up at home, the internet is a great tool. To sum up, at the age of 51 recent events have made me think it`s about time to acknowledge my learning difficulty. Just trying to work out where to take it from here. It's unlikely that I would be able to find any records of the event back in the seventies when I was tested for dyslexia, nothing of which turned up in my mother's house after she passed away. Perhaps I should get myself tested again. whatever happens, I am a positive person, don't for one second think it`s too late to turn things around and go forward.
Hi Mark, I'm so happy to hear that you've succeeded and are doing well in life, dyslexia can be a great advantage and clearly you have excelled in a physical area. If you ever need any help there are adult dyslexia organisations that could be of use :). Nowadays things have moved on from the seventies, albeit slower than we would like, we just have to keep pushing forward!
This video really touches me because as a dyslexic all my schooling life, I had been put into the bottoms sets for everything and always got the lowest scores. I could never hand write properly and people always bullied me in primary school because of my terrible handwriting. My concentration has always and still wondered away from when I am supposed to be working and until I was fourteen, I have really hated school as I always came at the bottom of my year. When I was fourteen, I was in the bottom set for maths where there was only five people who were at the same maths level as me or higher. I had a lot of extra lessons and tutors and my teacher, who was dyslexic, really understood me and helped me and at the end of year nine in the end of year maths exam, I get better than everyone in my class and the set above and most people in two sets above. This gave me a lot of confidence in my maths ability and in year ten, I moved up two sets in one go. After doing this, I had confidence in my work and my mother, (who thought previously that I would never be able to do gcse) believed in me and I managed to thrive in my GCSE years. I finished year eleven with one A* in RS, two As in maths and English language and five Bs and zero Cs. I know they are not the best results but I really worked hard for them and I am currently studying A levels in year 12. I think that a lot of dyslexic people give up easily and I used to in my younger years, but I also believe that dyslexia is no excuse to do badly. I have moderate dyslexia and I am the only one in my family that I know that has dyslexia. I still have many weaknesses, for example, in my year 11 mock exams, I got a U in Spanish even though I put so much time and effort into it and therefore decided to drop it. My family is very academic and I have always felt a bit bad when my cousins get eleven A*s in their GCSE's and get offers from Oxford and Cambridge and both my parents thrived in school, however, I know that I have skill sets that they do not have and hopefully when I leave school, I can use my assets to so something great.

Same dude I'm taking AP classes for math and science only thing is I'm terrible in English. When I'm reading something and by the time I'm done I usually don't know what I read. I don't like reading aloud since I read slow and sometimes have to stop to spell out the word and sometimes add words that aren't their.
Hamish Gray I went to a knew school for 2 year like last year with 9-11 people in each class but now I'm in a big school with 20-35 people in a class and for so reason I feel like I'm in a class with all the smart people but I'm just saying in my head WHAT I also feel like my read is getting way worser and my spelling is shit. And sense moved to this school and have no friend I set near my locker doing homework but most of the time I can't do it on my own. Sometimes I fell so lonely and then I begin to wonder if I'm mean or do I smell ect I wish there was a cure to dyslexia but there's not.
That part was way over the top. I can say though, I did have a teacher give me an apology gift in junior high due to the way she treated me the year before. Similar scenario, she thought I was lazy. When I transferred out of normal classes into Special classes at the end of the year she found out I was dyslexic. She was not as dramatic as this weird begging, chocolate holding, blubbering, weird guy. . . She just bought me a coffee cup with my name on it and told me she was sorry for misunderstanding.

I am 25 and I think I am dyslexic. I watch this video to see if I am really dyslexic, everything they said fits me perfectly. about 2 days ago I was reading to a friend, she was helping me with some school work and I kept reading the wrong thing even words that I was familiar with. then I came on to some numbers and kept on mixing them up. for example I see 67 I would say 76 and then she said you're dyslexic and we went online and did some research and yep I am dyslexic. growing up and going to school was very hard for me, my mom use to hit me every time when I don't know a word, she used to give me words to study and I try my best to get them correctly but I still get them wrong. even if I get them right I will forget how to spell after a couple of days. all my report card said that I am quite but needs to work harder. I try my best to learn, I even try coming up with creative ways to help myself but learning was still hard. I hate reading and spelling I suck at it really bad. I still haven't find out what I am good at but I find that I work better with art, sport, and trying to fix stuff or solve problems like fixing my fan, calculator, even my computer mouse. I live in Jamaica and want to get tested but don't know where to go it might be expensive. I am also scared that they might not be professional and act like I am stupid and talk behind my back.
I have dyslexia and it's difficult for me to participate in school. It sucks more cause I'm also asian and people expect from me to be "smarter". I use to think I was the opposite of humans cause everyone I knew was right handed, I was the only good drawer out of people I know, and everything in school is hard for me while I look at others and it was easy for them.

I got dyslexia and I get bullied online over my spelling..I can relate to this video....I suck at writing,reading,and math..but I'm preety good at science and art..and my teachers treat me differently to the other students and I get the same work as other students but I at least try on them.. ( by the way I got the same test I just take mine at school every school year like in the middle.i have tot ale mine at school cause the school have to out in their records for some reason and then inform my mom how well I do it)

I have dyslexia and I also get 50% extra time on tests when some people only get 25%-there are lots of different types of dyslexia and you have done a really good job of rasing awareness! My old school didn’t think I was dyslexic because I can read better than most normal people, but I have horrible phonetic spelling showing again that it can come in all different forms
I see a lot of people here thinking they might be dyslexic. If you think you are, and it's negatively affecting work/school or such, you should get it diagnosed! It's definitely helpful, reading out loud and doing work can be hella stessful, but if others understand that it's due to dyslexia it takes away a lot of the pressure :)
I relate to this. I have dyslexia and sometimes I feel like I'm stupid. I was always bullied because I couldn't read well. I couldn't spell things the right way. I mixed up the numbers, I had to have special classes. I feel like this video sums up my life!!!
This is so me at school in all aspects. I never really got any help and considered myself thick. It did mean though that I had to work harder and find ways myself to do the best I could. I still didn't do that great at school but gained maths, english etc after school learning in a different environment. Both my children are now diagnosed Dyslexic and they just fall back on that rather then try and find ways to overcome it. Learning methods for Dyslexics do help but the best approach is just realising you have an issue and excepting the fact that you just have to work harder than others. I never got a box of chocolates!!!!!!!
Thanks for telling my story, really loved the video. it was very heard as student trying to understand how I could do so well in other subjects and yet almost cry during my reading class.Things got better just after those school days. I still have to work at reading, I do my best public reading with a large print or double space between the lines not to mention some good prep time, give me a normal print and I'm overwhelmed.
I'm dyslexic. And I have jumped from one subject to another over the last 5 years. But I love getting the extra help from others though. I just hate it sometimes. ☺️☺️
Thank God that we have found at the our local Dyslexia Center, kids do not have to wait until after school is out. Their work using the Orton Gillingham method and 1-2-1 tutoring for 2 years takes kids at any reading level to grade level or higher.
I am very creative I am good at telling stories or making up stories but I can't read my stories because I am dyslexic I can read slow but I can read but I can't spell at all I went to a private tutor for dyslexic and it's a help but it did not make it go away I hate being dyslexic
I kinda have dyslexia... I' am a good story teller. But, every time I write, some people keep saying "I can't understand your story! You grammar is bad! There's some misspell words! Are you stupid?!" Well, I'm not stupid, I'm just having trouble with reading and writing. Unless, if I keep trying really hard, then I can accomplish everything! :D
It's sad how much a lot of kids can relate to this. My dyslexia was so bad that I couldn't understand the difference between 'hot' and 'hat' in my reading comprehension. I've practiced and practiced for 2 years straight and finally got some improvement. I worked harder and was told off for being the laziest in all my classes. It doesn't bother me anymore. I have improved quite a lot and I'm finally proud of where I am now.
My brother is dyslexic and we’re trying putting him in a special school and he has improved a ton he wasn’t a very good reader and could barely read thru the cat in the hat and would refuse to listen to my mum read at night and then he went to the school and felt 40% better and when I showed him a book series he would beg my mum to read more and more now he’s reading pages of chapter books and we’re so proud of him. I always felt bad for him because I would be reading chapter books with 100 pages in only two hours and he would get jealous every time I would slam my book shut and say finished
I dont know if i have dyslexia, but i can relate to all of these. Im not catching up in any work, especially in math, i have gotten a lot of bad marks in math, and my french is doing way worse than it was before. Thats kinda bad considering that everyone from my family is french. I also have a hard time spelling some words, which makes it hard for people to understand what i am writeing. Should i get tested? I honestly dont know
I cried watching this because I can relate to this so so so so so much. I have a IEP which means that I do different work. And I'm not as smart as other people in my class. I also cried because I'm so afraid of being juged like the boy in this video, and I found out that I have social anxiety. I know that it has nothing to do with the video, but it will get so bad where it gets to the point where I can't go into class in fear of people staring at me if I'm late for class.
the video was good to tell people that it's hard dealing with dyslexia but at the end it was not realistic because I have dyslexia but most teacher went going to adapt their way of teaching to make it a lot easier for them but they most likely will a little bit and the rest is up to you and how u decide to learn and how you decide to adapt to life

Basically what I'm trying to say is that school doesn't care if you're a bit different than others. If you're not completely average, you need to figure out most things on your own. Which is a really important problem in today's schools.

I think a lot of teachers are still in the mind set that all kids are ok and if don't do something right or dont show up that they are lazy, yes there are teachers that understand kids have depression, anxiety, dyslexia, ADHD and other things but with the amount of teachers who dont and lack of support for the kids and the amount of homework piled up each night, school is becoming so hard. They want to "academically challenge" us but instead we are pushed to our limits and boiling points.
I for example have extreme depression and mild anxiety, and adhd but because our teachers are giving us so much homework(as in, read 12 pages of a textbook, do a project and while your at it do this paper, just for one class) its made me sick to my stomach with anxiety because if the kids dont finish it your punished. Its just become so hard for the kids with different illnesses to function properly in school.
My school is one of the best in the state as said by test scores, but in reality it sucks, you have to wake up at five am after youve been up all night doing homework, their is bulling, really really rude teachers and kids, more homework and you dont get a second of down time, even on the weekends.

I have always learned diffrently than others, and was haveing a really hard time back in 2nd and 3rd grade. A few weeks into 3rd grade my mom had me tested for dislexia. I am a levle 4 (our of 5). I had always been super briliant at everything but english, but I always suffered really hard in english. I am currently one of the highest grades in the honors class of my college prepitory school. Although I still find English hard, I am doing great and have learned to love reading. It really helps that this year my English teacher has dislexia too. She let's me take all my a sign ment home and rewright them on my laptop to check for spelling. It may be more work, but it's worth the better grade. I've taught many Dyslexic students before, and if found they are Dyslexic I promise them I won't let them fail. I havent had a student yet whos failed due to Dyslexia.
I have never felt so understood in one video....ive never been tested for dyslexia but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I have a form of it. I can't even describe how relateable this video was...thanks for making this sir/miss.

Just because their English is perfect, they seen to have a massive chip on their shoulder, and it is not edible! LOL. However, when someone is kind, and offers help by correcting something. I praise them. When I was in school I was taught ITA English. It was total Twaddle and put me behind with reading and writing. I am sure they did this on purpose to keep the working class people down in the gutter.

Realate a lot to this. Schools really still dont understand and accommodate completely which I know from experience. Also this video is great-really educational. I have a specific learning disability (dislexia but not the conventional type as they said, every case is different. I've always beeen a great reader) my main problem being slow processing speed. I always struggled with school. I was always told I was untidy, unorganised, a daydreamer and slow until I got tested. (And after by ppl that still don't get it) It's really important to know that you have dislexiya bc it can really make you feel stupid and misunderstood. It does make many aspects of life harder not just school. Everyone has unique things they're good at, we need to nurture that and accept how people learn and think 💭 ❤️

Why is the treatment of this problem so expensive? What if someone is struggling their hardest to deal with their child's dyslexia expenses, I mean if someone is poor? Doesn't the child has the right to study and escape all the negative comments?

As about the teachers usually they don't apologize after everything and don't really care much about your problems and i am not talking about all teachers i had few that were very caring about it as i am still going to school i have one of the teachers that somewhat understands me because his brother also has dyslexia and i am very thankful to him. Also you can't never get rid of dyslexia even with treating you can just make it slightly easier

Dyslexia and ADHD are normal to demigods,dyslexia being interpreted as one's brain being hardwired to greek or latin,thus having difficulties with other languages besides latin and greek.ADHD on the other hands is an advantage for combat as it helps reactions(or some bullshit like that I guess). I didn't read any of the books, but that's what I grasped from the wiki.

When I was about 9 years old (primary 5) my mum was advised by a neighbour who also happened to be the local doctor, that I may be dyslexic, he told her where I could be tested. I was tested and it was positive. I attended a small two-teacher school, and at the time, I was taught by the headteacher. Although I believe the school was informed of this event nothing really changed. My teacher retired about a year later and his successor was never informed. I know this from a conversation my mother had some years later, it didn't surprise me. No one really acknowledged my dyslexia apart from my Mother and to be honest, I dismissed it myself.
School was a disaster I never seemed to understand things and was always way behind everyone else. it was horrible and embarrassing. I couldn't hide this in school but outside school did all I possibly could to cover it up, which made me feel very isolated with the problem.
Although I left school at 15 with no qualifications, my working life has been mostly happy , despite having some frustrations for not achieving ambitions I've had. My work has always been physical I am reasonably fit, can work hard , have a good sense of humour and have always enjoyed having a good relationship with the other guys.
Three years ago I was headhunted for the job I'm in now, although the work is still physical, it has meant having to take some courses. which I have found to be challenging, to say the least, and during the tests, I was always the last to leave the room but somehow managed to get my paper in before time was up, and I now have the certificates I need. However, this was an experience I didn't enjoy, too much like school, I was embarrassed by how much I kept falling behind in class. I was able to catch up at home, the internet is a great tool.
To sum up, at the age of 51 recent events have made me think it`s about time to acknowledge my learning difficulty. Just trying to work out where to take it from here. It's unlikely that I would be able to find any records of the event back in the seventies when I was tested for dyslexia, nothing of which turned up in my mother's house after she passed away. Perhaps I should get myself tested again. whatever happens, I am a positive person, don't for one second think it`s too late to turn things around and go forward.

I'm so happy to hear that you've succeeded and are doing well in life, dyslexia can be a great advantage and clearly you have excelled in a physical area. If you ever need any help there are adult dyslexia organisations that could be of use :). Nowadays things have moved on from the seventies, albeit slower than we would like, we just have to keep pushing forward!

This video really touches me because as a dyslexic all my schooling life, I had been put into the bottoms sets for everything and always got the lowest scores. I could never hand write properly and people always bullied me in primary school because of my terrible handwriting. My concentration has always and still wondered away from when I am supposed to be working and until I was fourteen, I have really hated school as I always came at the bottom of my year. When I was fourteen, I was in the bottom set for maths where there was only five people who were at the same maths level as me or higher. I had a lot of extra lessons and tutors and my teacher, who was dyslexic, really understood me and helped me and at the end of year nine in the end of year maths exam, I get better than everyone in my class and the set above and most people in two sets above. This gave me a lot of confidence in my maths ability and in year ten, I moved up two sets in one go. After doing this, I had confidence in my work and my mother, (who thought previously that I would never be able to do gcse) believed in me and I managed to thrive in my GCSE years. I finished year eleven with one A* in RS, two As in maths and English language and five Bs and zero Cs. I know they are not the best results but I really worked hard for them and I am currently studying A levels in year 12. I think that a lot of dyslexic people give up easily and I used to in my younger years, but I also believe that dyslexia is no excuse to do badly. I have moderate dyslexia and I am the only one in my family that I know that has dyslexia. I still have many weaknesses, for example, in my year 11 mock exams, I got a U in Spanish even though I put so much time and effort into it and therefore decided to drop it. My family is very academic and I have always felt a bit bad when my cousins get eleven A*s in their GCSE's and get offers from Oxford and Cambridge and both my parents thrived in school, however, I know that I have skill sets that they do not have and hopefully when I leave school, I can use my assets to so something great.

Same dude I'm taking AP classes for math and science only thing is I'm terrible in English. When I'm reading something and by the time I'm done I usually don't know what I read. I don't like reading aloud since I read slow and sometimes have to stop to spell out the word and sometimes add words that aren't their.

Hamish Gray I went to a knew school for 2 year like last year with 9-11 people in each class but now I'm in a big school with 20-35 people in a class and for so reason I feel like I'm in a class with all the smart people but I'm just saying in my head WHAT I also feel like my read is getting way worser and my spelling is shit. And sense moved to this school and have no friend I set near my locker doing homework but most of the time I can't do it on my own. That part was way over the top. I can say though, I did have a teacher give me an apology gift in junior high due to the way she treated me the year before. Similar scenario, she thought I was lazy. When I transferred out of normal classes into Special classes at the end of the year she found out I was dyslexic. She was not as dramatic as this weird begging, chocolate holding, blubbering, weird guy. . . She just bought me a coffee cup with my name on it and told me she was sorry for misunderstanding.

I am 25 and I think I am dyslexic. I watch this video to see if I am really dyslexic, everything they said fits me perfectly. about 2 days ago I was reading to a friend, she was helping me with some school work and I kept reading the wrong thing even words that I was familiar with. then I came on to some numbers and kept on mixing them up. for example I see 67 I would say 76 and then she said you're dyslexic and we went online and did some research and yep I am dyslexic. growing up and going to school was very hard for me, my mom use to hit me every time when I don't know a word, she used to give me words to study and I try my best to get them correctly but I still get them wrong. even if I get them right I will forget how to spell after a couple of days. all my report card said that I am quite but needs to work harder. I try my best to learn, I even try coming up with creative ways to help myself but learning was still hard. I hate reading and spelling I suck at it really bad. I still haven't find out what I am good at but I find that I work better with art, sport, and trying to fix stuff or solve problems like fixing my fan, calculator, even my computer mouse. I live in Jamaica and want to get tested but don't know where to go it might be expensive. I am also scared that they might not be professional and act like I am stupid and talk behind my back.

I have dyslexia and it's difficult for me to participate in school. It sucks more cause I'm also asian and people expect from me to be "smarter". I use to think I was the opposite of humans cause everyone I knew was right handed, I was the only good drawer out of people I know, and everything in school is hard for me while I look at others and it was easy for them.

My old school didn’t think I was dyslexic because I can read better than most normal people, but I have horrible phonetic spelling showing again that it can come in all different forms
I see a lot of people here thinking they might be dyslexic. If you think you are, and it's negatively affecting work/school or such, you should get it diagnosed! It's definitely helpful, reading out loud and doing work can be hella stessful, but if others understand that it's due to dyslexia it takes away a lot of the pressure :)

This is so me at school in all aspects. I never really got any help and considered myself thick. It did mean though that I had to work harder and find ways myself to do the best I could. I still didn't do that great at school but gained maths, english etc after school learning in a different environment. Both my children are now diagnosed Dyslexic and they just fall back on that rather then try and find ways to overcome it. Learning methods for Dyslexics do help but the best approach is just realising you have an issue and excepting the fact that you just have to work harder than others. I never got a box of chocolates!!!!!!!
Thanks for telling my story, really loved the video. it was very heard as student trying to understand how I could do so well in other subjects and yet almost cry during my reading class.Things got better just after those school days. I still have to work at reading, I do my best public reading with a large print or double space between the lines not to mention some good prep time, give me a normal print and I'm overwhelmed.

Thank God that we have found at the our local Dyslexia Center, kids do not have to wait until after school is out. Their work using the Orton Gillingham method and 1-2-1 tutoring for 2 years takes kids at any reading level to grade level or higher.

It's sad how much a lot of kids can relate to this. My dyslexia was so bad that I couldn't understand the difference between 'hot' and 'hat' in my reading comprehension. I've practiced and practiced for 2 years straight and finally got some improvement. I worked harder and was told off for being the laziest in all my classes. It doesn't bother me anymore. I have improved quite a lot and I'm finally proud of where I am now.

My brother is dyslexic and we’re trying putting him in a special school and he has improved a ton he wasn’t a very good reader and could barely read thru the cat in the hat and would refuse to listen to my mum read at night and then he went to the school and felt 40% better and when I showed him a book series he would beg my mum to read more and more now he’s reading pages of chapter books and we’re so proud of him. I always felt bad for him because I would be reading chapter books with 100 pages in only two hours and he would get jealous every time I would slam my book shut and say finished

Definitely get tested, I can't relate to most of those in the video but I got tested a few year ago and I was tested positive for dyslexia

I cried watching this because I can relate to this so so so so so much. I have a IEP which means that I do different work. And I'm not as smart as other people in my class. I also cried because I'm so afraid of being juged like the boy in this video, and I found out that I have social anxiety. I know that it has nothing to do with the video, but it will get so bad where it gets to the point where I can't go into class in fear of people staring at me if I'm late for class.
the video was good to tell people that it's hard dealing with dyslexia but at the end it was not realistic because I have dyslexia but
most teacher went going to adapt their way of teaching to make it a lot easier for them but they most likely will a little bit and the rest is up to you and how u decide to learn and how you decide to adapt to life
