    go to Walmart and check out a product called Preen. Its in a yellow bag or bucket with red highlights. Its a pre emergent in a granular form that works for preventing weeds in mulch beds, flower beds, etc. The product you are using there is more of a sterilant for where no plant growth is desired such as rock landscaped areas where there are no flowers, bushes, etc.

      Preen doesn't kill weeds ;)

      nope you are correct about that part. You can still spray glyphosate products like Round Up on the weeds that are present, and the preen is more of a preventative measure. Because the barrier is meant for bare earth areas only, my guess is your desireable plants can take the chemicals up by the roots and may experience injury or some loss. Gly is taken up by the foliage and doesn't have any lasting effects in the soil. Might want to research that a bit more before applying too much of the barrier to the flower beds.

      Can this work if i have mulch and the landcapers black roll fabric underneath? We just did a beautiful garden, and its only been a week and i see pieces of small grass growing out, its only been a week since they did our garden & its frustrating how the grass grew throughout the black fabric and mulch so quickly.

    I got a bed against the front of the house with scrubs. I got weeds that grow in there every week. Would this kill the scrubs? I just want to stop the grass and weeds from growing in there.

    I strongly suggest that anyone using this chemical ALWAYS wear gloves (nitrile gloves, not gardening gloves) when mixing this chemical in a spayer and when spraying it. As a general rule when using chemicals, when in doubt always wear gloves and protective clothing.

    Something to be aware of - spray on a calm day or beware of wood drift. I sprayed near some black eye Susan last year and must not of taking into account for the wind. They survived but definitely had damage

    What's your take on preen extended control and have you tried it at all? And how did the product you used in the video work for you for the season?

  • @wayneessar7489
    @wayneessar7489 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The label mentions this will inhibit growth for a whole year so you are very wise to spot spray.
    Someone could waste a bunch of money on spring bedding plants if they forgot that they blanket sprayed.

      Wayne Essar yeah this video is not up to par, should not be used in flower beds

      I don’t think it would have an effect on bedding plants. You’ll be breaking through that barrier by digging the top section out and throwing it off to the side to plant. Pre-M works the same way in the lawn. If you put Pre-M first, before aerating, you may still get weeds bc of that hole you poked loses the barrier in that spot because the plug gets pulled. I’ve used Preen and planted new plants the same day and used Prodiamine and seeded a bare spot the next week. As long as you till the dirt well, that “barrier” shouldn’t be an issue.

      @@andrewp.619 I only know the label, under where to use says, don't put it where you will plant or seed in twelve months as newly planted trees, seeds etc are more sensitive.

    I just used the Gordon's Lawn Weed Killer and for 20 bucks a gallon, its cost effective even if it don't touch crabgrass. I noticed some real damage to a lot of different weeds around the property just by using a hose end sprayer set at 2 oz/gal (an area set at 1-1/2 oz seemed less effective).. Do you have a suggestion to keep the weeds out of my gravel driveway? I have been using KnockOut from Lowes which is 41% Glyphosate and needs reapplied every month.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stuff here is perfect for driveways. The glyphosate kills the weeds and the pre-emergent prevents new.

      After you kill the weeds, apply preemergent. I heard Hot Shot is a great brand.

      Instead of using every month, try every 2 weeks to suppress for a longer period of time, use a surfactant also, search a product called sticker..especially on crabgrass and yellow and purple nut sedge..nursery specialist for a big box store in the garden center for going on 18 years..with that many years experience in landscape.

      Grass Daddy you should really think about renaming this video. I am having terrible weed problems within my flower beds and as you have agreed to, this shouldn’t be used in/around flower beds. Plus nothing in their literature says it should be. Please forgive my comment but I was excited and then disappointed since I have only found one local product that is recommended to use in the flower beds and it has not been effective at all. Do you know of a product that is safe for flower beds? If I am wrong about this product what am I missing?

      As far as I know there is no selective weed control that won't kill flowers. You have to not spray your the flowers. If you do that, you're fine.

    You mentioned Tractor Supply. Would you possibly consider reviewing their Groundwork brand, battery backpack sprayer? I bought one last week for $69.99 on fall clearance sale. Personally, I think it's fantastic, it looks much more comfortable to wear than the big name brand sprayers, but it is my first sprayer and I have nothing to compare it to. I shot a features video of mine if you've got a couple minutes to check it out. Thanks.

      What kind of grass do you have?

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what type of grass you are seeding. KBG seeds are smaller so you need less for instance. The packaging on the bag should tell you. If you are buying online the description should say the seeding rate.

      Bill Brandon I doubt many weeds are gonna grow this late in the season. At least not in Ohio, it's already close to freezing at night. I'd wait till right before spring. It works for like six months....if you did now it seems like you'd waist a few months. But once again I don't know where you live. It's cold where I live.
