      I agree people should never criticise inexperience, its where we all started afterall, I bet they felt really pleased with what they had achieved and justifiably so. I don't have anything as large as that but love my small machinery, far less effort than a wheelbarrow and shovel, 😊.

    As you gain more experience with the backhoe, you will find, especially with the 1025r & 2025r, that it is easier to stay at the backhoe, raise the bucket and stabilizers, and use the backhoe to push the tractor forward as you work. Granted, this is really only a good idea on level ground and carefully checking what is ahead BEFORE you move, but it can save a lot of time climbing in and out to move ahead.
    And these guys made a great sales video for that stump remover attachment!!!!

    I think it is amazing what you can accomplish with a small compact utility tractor and its attachments. I own a 37 year old John Deere 650 on turf tires with 2000 hours and it always amazes me the things that I can do that larger machines can't. 4wd , hydraulics , a diesel engine, , a 3 point hitch,and a #7 backhoe. Its a very capable machine that has a light impact on the yard.

    Well that was awesome of Courtney to let a bunch of townies loose with his tractor and entire shed full of attachments. I must say I am impressed with the knowledge they gained over the weekend. It was pretty rookie on Saturday and by Monday they were really getting the hang of things. Having the backhoe on while moving all of that rock would have made that go better, as the ballast weight from the hoe would have helped the tractor. Lifting out the fenceposts would have gone a lot smoother with the backhoe on just for the weight as well. All in all, great project everyone and I really liked the video.

  • @KimMac17

    That was a fantastic video, I loved it! Of course since I love my backhoe, I probably would’ve used that to remove a bunch of the stumps but it was great to see the stump bucket in action also :)

    • @matthewgroff433
      @matthewgroff433 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is what I was thinking and saying to the computer monitor the whole time: "You got a backhoe, use that to get the big stumps loose, then use the Stump bucket to get them out!" LOL Then when they were removing the concrete walkway in the front yard I was doing the same thing: "You have a backhoe use that to help break up the concrete walkway! Then use the loader to pick it up and move it! Work Smarter NOT Harder!" LOL I guess with them being inexperienced with using the backhoe they wanted to use the loader and stump bucket. Great video!!

    • @KimMac17
      @KimMac17 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewgroff433 Yup. but I also get that if you're not used to it.. and especially before I made dolly's for my backhoe/box blade, it did seem like a big effort to switch out the attachments and they only had limited time, so I understand their choices in that context.

    • @MattN03
      @MattN03 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have used the backhoe on the stumps and tried it on the concrete...

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose I don't see the benefit still of the backhoe on the sidewalk vs the bucket. Maybe it would have grabbed a corner better, but I feel the bucket did it just as expedient as anything else could have. However for digging out the roots, perhaps the backhoe would have been quicker. We actually did dig around one stump (just not shown in the video) with the backhoe. But it may have been hard to tell that some areas were very tight, and that backhoe makes your tractor way longer, which just made it less practical to get into some of those spaces, and just drive around the yard in general. _Chris

    Great example of multiple attachments, and how a small tractor can save your back. I had a sidewalk removal project. I rented a concrete saw and cut into slabs. Then used forks to move them to the back of the shop and use them to drop off my attachments. Box blade, rake.etc. Keeps them off of the ground and best of all, no sledge hammer.

    I've removed large stumps 10" - 20"+ diameter with my jd650 mfwd and a homemade fel root ripper blade. Many hours on the tractor due to a learning curve and the size of the stumps. Better than by hand, however probably not necessary for what I was doing with that area, could have ground it out. Time is money and its all about how you want to spend it. Saved money, got the job done at the cost of time, looks good, and now I wait for my permit to build a wood shed there.

It really helps to have someone spot for the operator while using a stump bucket. I have been thinking about how to install a mirror to the stump bucket so I can see more accurately. Good video. Thx.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, part of it is experience. The chain slot allows you to get a feel for where the center of the bucket is, then it's a matter of getting comfortable with your level indicator to begin feeling out the pitch of your bucket. Still, if you can get a spotter, all the better. There are a lot of FEL attachments that would benefit from that, forks most of all.

      Hi Mike, this is Chris. I mentioned to another commenter above, but we actually did use it to dig around a stump (I just omitted it from the video). But a backhoe also makes the tractor way longer, and our space was pretty limited. And with how quick you can move back and forth with the stump bucket, versus resetting the tractor to get to the far side of the stump, it just seemed like 6 of one, half dozen of another.

    After watching all of the guys that have no idea how to operate the tractor, it reinforces my resolve to not let anyone borrow my tractor without me operating it. Should have been some basic instructions before handing it over, such as: 1. do NOT operate any front attachment without something heavy on the 3 point. 2. here is the 4WD lever - use it ONLY when spinning and disengage it before turning or driving on hard surfaces. 3. Last - maintain consistent RPM when operating. Typically 2200 to 2500 for me. Fortunately, looks like no one was injured and no structures were damaged. As for the grill guard, glad it was there.

      Hi April. You might be looking at the perfect compliment to your 5400 in the 1025r. It's tiny compared to the 5 series, but that's why it would likely compliment your farm well, as it can get into the places the other tractor can't, and really feels just like a big lawn tractor in size. Use a box and then connect smaller pipe to box. Then you don’t reduce usefulness of size of pipe. Just a old electricians advice. PVC is cheep and not easy to add later after landscaping is in.

      Yeah. We forgot to pack the weights and running the rear attachments as a ballast was just asking to clip one of our fresh fence posts.

      I thought it was funny more than anything because when u use my 1025r I remember the ballast video

    The stump bucket seems like it puts a lot of stress on the loader. Do you see damage from that implement?

  • @tjmitchell42
    @tjmitchell42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    In retrospect do you think it would have been easier to use the backhoe you had to dig the bushes and stumps vs the stump bucket. I mean... since you did have it.

      Hi Tom,
      Please see my reply to a few comments above on that topic.

    It's so weird that the shutters kind of flash with the strike, it did it before too I didn't grab the timestamp though

      That is weird. I imagine the hammer shook the ground, the camera picked up the slightest shake, and compressing 4K to 1080 amplified the moire effect. But I didn't notice until you pointed it out!

      According to some other posts here, I just missed the sweet spot that does allow for control in two directions simultaneously. _Chris

    Holy cow your tractor has a backhoe on it isn't that like illegal in your book

      @GoodWorksTractors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha. We don't hate backhoes! We just think they're a bit pricey for the number of times they get used by most owners.

    Can you give the exact price for the 1025r with the bucket and mower

      Sorry, we’re not a John Deere dealer . Your dealer should be able to give you a price.

    • @jimmcknight3021
      @jimmcknight3021 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not necessarily on the backhoe getting it out faster than a stump bucket. A few weeks ago this summer on A Rittter Bit will do, He showed that the stump bucket is actually quicker than a backhoe on subcompact tractors. I will grant you that a professional may be able to do it quicker, but for us want to be landscapers on a smaller compact or subcompact tractor, a lot of times the stump bucket will be quicker and at a fraction of the cost!
