Despite being a spinner Riptide is like the third best flipper in the sport. XD
@@Staurcomb they have rules and precautions to prevent this but there is always the chance they sneaked a lil boost but i think its just tech getting crazy because all verts now are hitting.... sooooooo hard.
Even if you're not making that up, the tip speed rules are only there for safety reasons. If your bot is still safe(ie the BattleBox can contain it), it doesn't really matter if it's over what the rules say.
@@Staurcomb It's because their bar is so wide, they are getting at least 12 inches of contact vs most spinners with like 2-4 inches that just slice through. Most robots don't even go max top speed (180-220mph) because after a certain point you lose torque. Your weapon may spin fast, but it won't have any punch behind, thus making it less beneficial.

@@NeonDeion109and with cutting out the middle like that it puts more mass towards the outside, allowing a lot more torque and speed to be had, and it might even possibly reduced air resistance.
The power and design of Riptide's spinner is so good. Notice they put almost all of the mass of the drum as far out toward the edge as possible, no reason to spin up mass in the center. I've not seen a single spinner as powerful as Riptide's. And, notice that the edge has a very deliberately designed profile. I think people have accused Riptide's team of cheating but I'm of the opinion that it's really just a great design. Not a lot of spinners have an almost completely open center. Again, this lets you put as much mass out where it is moving as fast as possible, giving the maximum amount of force, without wasting precious bot weight toward the center of the drum.
More technically: the open center increases the drum's moment of inertia around the spinning axis and therefore the amount of rotational kinetic energy the drum can build up to inflict on opponents
It's a ripoff of a lighter weight not, down to the holes in the sheet metal...

Is scaling up previously successful designs in other weight classes considered cheating?
I never made a claim they were the first to do anything because I simply don't know every bot that has ever existed.
@@iceman5117 No it isn't. There's many eggbeater type spinner designs which came before Lynx which I assume is the bot you're referring to.
Riptide is a scaled up version of one of Ethan Kurtz's smaller bots Rival which was created totally independently of Lynx. That's a totally false narrative that numerous people including battlebots themelves need to stop propagating.
@@Genecaster Sorry, my mistake replied to the wrong person. But apparently some people who watch BB do think that Riptide cheated for this reason or that reason when their evidence is pretty hollow.
But some people do consider Riptide to be a cheap imitation of Lynx when it isn't and people aren't prepared to do the research. They'd rather just lazily make assumptions about things which aren't true and in a way they are falsely accusing Riptide of cheating by blatantly copying their design just like a kid in a school exam copying someome else's homework when that's simply not the case.
When you have a one-hit-destruction weapon, you just gotta hit first and keep hitting, and that's what won this bout real fast.
This match has so much passion. It brought a tear to my eye. Dragon had amazing sportsmanship and deserves the recognition they received from an amazing streak of wins.
Overall, it was an amazing and exciting match!
It wasn't a win streak, only a streak of not losing by KO. I think it's pointless since they were still losing many matches. Tha Record holder went 24-1 without being knocked out. Black Dragon is only 16-9

If the passionate drivers or engineers shed a tear for themselves and their teammates I would say something thoughtful like "cool story bro".
If a youtube commentor cried about two human controlled robots smashing each other up I'd say "uhh... you ok dude?"

Riptide is just something else this season. It was already great when it was a newcomer in World Championship 6, but this year, it looks champion worthy!
Riptide is notorious for being the most arrogant and self-absorbed bot as well as their building crew. The Los Angeles Lakers of BattleBots. Ethan Kurtz is like Lebron James when it comes to arrogance, self-absorption, and winning mentality.

@@sweetrocks610 They could pull a Ja Morant: get involved into a scandal after the conclusion of the season. I'm assuming that Riptide is worse than Ja Morant, Dillon Brooks, and the rest of the Memphis Grizzlies? Perhaps Ethan Kurtz is acting like Lebron James?
@@krystalraquidan8319 they very well could. However, Ethan seems like a completely different person when he is away from the crew. Given that he’s generally more reserved when he isn’t with a group of people, he will probably stay in his own lane.

Riptide is a menace, for sure. The size and weight of that weapon is so hard to get around.
It just sucks that the team has all these questionable behaviors and a murky foundation to deal with.
I'm cool with a pro-wrestling style Heel, but the moment it becomes more than pageantry, it's a problem.
Do you think they are working on their behavior? They didn't go for Black Dragon when it stopped moving, and they seemed to try pumping up the other team after winning by talking about how dangerous Black Dragon was.
@Russell Wiley I mean Ethan was kind of a jerk to more than just one team.
@@chickens-yt I'm not familiar with the full history, just that it sounds like they've been jerks behind the scenes, and went for a robot that was already obviously K/O'd. Do you think they're trying to improve? I suppose if they were, it could just be a mask due to them seeing the negative feedback from Battle Bots fans.
@@bandteeskinnyjeans There's a ton of rumors and shady stuff about them, that they have been exeeding tip speed limit, that they modify their bot after weigh in (they were caught working on it after weigh in before their fight with shatter in last night's episode and came in 2 poinds lighter in a second weigh in) and that they are generally just kind of jerks in the pits. Doesn't help their reputation that they've already shown that thirdd thing and their bot is a 250-pound ripoff of another bot in a lower weight class. My new least favorite bot as a result.
Is it bad that I think it might be time for Tombstone to hand off the mantel of Battlebots heel to these guys?
Black Dragon didn’t face the opponent just for a second in the very beginning and paid the price. Wish there was more destruction, smoke and fire!
the judges have finaly said it riptide has joined the likes of ziggy and prime tombstone. as one of the most destructive bots in the sports history.
also you gotta love when the lights get destroyed. or really any part of the arena even if it means fixing something between fights

With the show hyping black dragon streak for so long, this was pretty much what we all expected to see
Great match-up of two bots with such similar weapons. I think the first blow from either weapon could have yielded a KO. Black Dragon's strategy to run from a head-on confrontation and offer undefended flanks has a mankind-long history of failure. Maybe they'll learn - put yer best weapon forward - don't run, don't open up your flanks for a center position weapon.
Riptide is well engineered and probably the next champ.

Riptide is basically the Boston Celtics/Los Angeles Lakers of BattleBots. Ethan Kurtz on the other hand is like Lebron James when it involves arrogance, self-absorption, winning mentality, hates to lose, and bragging about they're the best in the league while pissing off everyone.

Riptide’s weapon is incredibly powerful. I think having relatively low drivetrain is actually useful for them as it’s easier to have fine tuned movements and keep the bot in the direction it needs to be - they don’t need to outrun our out maneuver other bots, they simply need to face their weapon the direction of the other bot at all times.
They actually have one of tha quickest bots in tha field. He uses its speed for box rushes and follow-up shots

An entertaining battle to see would be Riptide vs Carbide from the Robot wars series. Carbide was by far my fav robot from the robot fighting series and was also a force to be reckoned with.

Months later... I remember that Black Dragon avoided the straight-ahead opening charge, preferring to try an end-around which exposed it's sides and back so THAT is what was attacked first. And killed. Shoulda gone straight!
They should’ve tried to sync their spinner speeds to mesh the weapons together for a moment

I love Riptide. The diehard battle bots fans hate them but casuals love the destruction they make and want more.
I'd like them if the team was nice but they're not, they're rude to other teams and broke a rule last episode when they were modifying their bot after weighing it before the fight

They checked everything aspect after Wrigley's whining. He was praying g or a disqualification so he wouldn't have to fight them. When you're a dramatic, consistent winner, everyone is going to suggest that you are cheating.

Eh, riptide is cool the team is very rude. I'm sorry but this is the cleanest fight they have had and then what every other fight has been unnecessary damage.
Idk, they definitely did something to there bot that made it 2 lbs lighter in the future battles.
Seems to me they're getting away with a lot.
I think the latest ep had an even cleaner one in a way. Minus Ethan's swearing - which is predictable, as well as his earth shattering "LET'S GOOOOOOOO!" - the team was actually rather humble and I really liked it compared to his Shatter, Shred, and MadCatter fights.
He didn't need to really say "f the haters" on national television, though. That's a thought to keep to yourself or your team when no one's nearby.
Still taking that with a bag of salt though because like you said, this season's basically been mostly Riptide controversies and misbehavior. While the BD fight and fight from last week (I won't say who yet, but if you know you know) were actually rather similar to their rookie season, I don't trust Ethan or his team to actually continue acting as humans and not a bunch of bloodthirsty baffoons.
So if anything, they REMOVED something. I don't think that means they are running a cheated bot you dunce
