  • A new Democracy4 Series, where we are going for an all-out laissez-faire Capitalist Germany, breaking the hold of the unions, privatising state industries and encouraging entrepreneurship.
    Note: This is not a political commentary. We are exploring the game mechanics.

    The absolute musts of a capitalist playthrough are:
    Cutting pensions
    Enterprise investment scheme
    small business grants

      Why cut state pensions, when you can abolish them altogether;-)

    It's quite literally the opposite of what Germany actually did.

    The CO2 tax woude probably be the most capitalist approach to limit the Environmental impact without regulations.

    • @SeriousStrategyGamer
      @SeriousStrategyGamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ture, but in game terms it only applies to corbon emissions not to the broader "environment". There is actually very little you can do to directly impact that short off direct regualatory policies.

      The Serious Strategy Gamer it still is a good idea though...

      It absolutely is, both in game and in reality (although I have slight preference for cap-and-trade). Still either is more efficient than attempting micro-management of a complex society.

      @@SeriousStrategyGamer Is there a cap-and-trade option in the game. It would be interesting to play out the differences between a CO2 tax and cap and trade. I would prefer a CO2 tax over cap-and-trade because it's the simpler method to add the negative external cost that products produce to the price but I can see the appeal of cap-and-trade with the direct control over how much CO2 gets released and the market defined price for emissions.

    • @SeriousStrategyGamer
      @SeriousStrategyGamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately Cap and trade is not in the game (yet?). One further advantage I can see that it might be slightly easier to use it for CO2 removal by crediting someone who removes CO2 with a certificate that he can trade away. With a CO2 tax that would require a 'negative tax' payment by the government; theoretically possible but easy to get the pricing wrong an be stuck with a huge bill or no CO2 reductions.

    What I still do not understand is, how you increase the popularity so easy ? I played a couple of times in the germany scenario and no matter what I do, the popularity stays most of the times very low.

    • @SeriousStrategyGamer
      @SeriousStrategyGamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ultimately its many small steps combined and not one particular thing. The big overachring thing is to closely watch the red status effects. The second thing, and one that many overlook, is to not just look at happiness, but also at the groups membership numbers: Take more care for larger groups and try to make happy groups bigger...

    • @RuLeZ1988
      @RuLeZ1988 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SeriousStrategyGamer But its difficult to point the finger on what specific actions did make the change ? For example if you look at 19:49 to 20:20 you suddenly got a good increase for the popularity, which does occure after only two turns. So some of the policies you added, changed or removed had quite a fast impact on the popularity, but iam not very sure which policies did took effect so quickly if i would try to point on something. As you said before it seems to be a combination of many small steps, but finding this combination is for me at the moment a big riddle. :D Maybe iam gonna try your approach of trying to appeal to mostly one or two groups of people with high membership.

      @@RuLeZ1988 sorry I can not give you a clearer answer, but ultimately Domocracy 4 is very much based around a million little changes more than single big effects. That said, the change from 19:49 to 20:20 likely was just an update from turn 1 (i.e. the simulation always starts a bit off). I should also point out that this let's play was on a slightly older version, which can influence things.

      So, it's a big beginning for your capitalist government ! You just destroyed the inner-working of the German economy ahahah xD
      Maybe try to cut taxes just before an election ? It'll boost your popularity and can save you and by the way make your capitalist agenda more closer to reality!

      And maybe try to replace the income tax, which is progressive, by a flat tax ?

    • @SeriousStrategyGamer

      That is absolutely an objective. But only because we can not do head taxes... (Its pretty expensive in terms of political power though, so it needs to wait a while).
