Thanks Wayne for inspiring a lot of us goofy foots the storm riders video at ripcurl San clemente in the 80s helped my surfing with the tunes and great waves at the bluff
Thank you Wayne for your advice. I have been a backyard shaper for more than 50 years now and on my next board shall give your fin theory a go. That board of yours looks good, few boards today have a defined trailing rail edge. I think rails should look like a birds wing, leading and trailing edge designed to use the principles of aerodynamics or in this case hydrodynamics. I guess this style of rail lends itself to big , round turns, which feature heavily in your own style. By the way my son is studying naval architecture at A.M.C. and is a surfer, we may be able to try tank testing fins one day!
Creating a platform that the weight, height, ability of a human being represents one set of variables to perform on another set of variables - a wave - represents perhaps one of the greatest talents a craftsman can make. Awesome
I ride an 8' rounded pin mid length in NZ and am always in debate with myself over fins. I am 65 and when I was in my very young years you used the fins that were glassed onto your board no questions asked. Now I like to experiment with fins but it is expensive. I surf mainly east coast 3' beach breaks. I am not doing vertical snaps or anything too flash now, so cruise and have adapted to mid length surfing. What size centre fin and side fins would you recommend. I am 90kg and 5' 7" tall and intermediate level.
Wayne is a beast. Very quietly one of the best all around surfers for years.
Watching footage of Wayne lynch it takes less than a second to see he was way ahead of his time

Fins are 80 percent of a board
