    This Honda HRX217 I got in a trade deal. It ran poorly and I was able to get it running much better. Problem is, the self propel didn't work. Once I looked under the mower I found there was no self propel belt! In this video I take off what feels like a thousand things just to replace it, and get the self propel working again!

    So after ripping apart two of these recently to scrap the first one for parts and replace the transmission in the second one I would say that this is not an easy job. After watching your video + about 5 other ones I think I have this model all figured out, but wow, what a learning curve

      It was a bit of a chore to replace the belt on it for sure. Other models it's a few minutes at the most, this one takes time and patience!

    I’m in the middle of this job and this video is somewhat helpful but this guy really didn’t have it figured out ahead of time. The bag/mulch chute lever- he finally figures that out at the end but if you take it apart right you will see that the lever on top controls the movement of that plastic part. Be careful when you remove it as there are several pieces that have to fit together just right.

    I am throwing my 900 dollard disposable mower away because it needs a belt. Such a poor design. I miss my old Snapper.

      Used mine twice and the belt popped. True pieces of shit these are nowadays. Thankfully they stopped making mowers. Used to be one of the highest quality mowers.

    A curse on Honda for making it this hard.

    I did a clutch cable replacement a couple months ago on one of these. Certainly a royal pain to get all of those plastics off the bottom. Great video and the struggle is real on this particular Honda model.

    Better if he is prepared & would have done it once before. Doesn't show putting bolt in by wheel or pin on shaft. Have mine apart now. Large springs. His technique with shoestring on springs may help. My pulley on transmission cut two grooves on its mounting plate that helps keep belt on. Don't see as spare part, maybe able to grind off a section. My bearing may be off on transmission. New transmission is listed as $460.

    Good job figuring out this one. I went through this struggle a few years ago and I remember how difficult it was to get apart and back together. It will be easier the next time you take in this model. Good troubleshooting/logic skills! I made a spring puller out of a wire coat hanger. I'll send photo if you'd like to see it. {Tom in Hillsborough}

      Hey Tom, this was my first time doing this so there was some figuring out to do. I can't believe how much I had to take off! I use pull rope as a spring puller and I have found that to be even better than wire! Because of being able to pull it out easier once you get the spring on.

      Did you notice when taking yours apart whether there were 2 half moon pieces in the shaft?

    • @CarlTucker-zo1cg
      @CarlTucker-zo1cg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ZacharyMiles-bg8tg If you are talking about the bag/mulch control shaft, there is a small pin the fits into a hole hole in the end of shaft that lines up with the lever on the back (top) of the chute.

    • @ZacharyMiles-bg8tg
      @ZacharyMiles-bg8tg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your reply, no I'm talking about the actual shaft. I think the Australian models differ from the US . The shaft has 2 small half moon pieces that sit in it. When I was disassembling one of mine vanished ... So I was wondering if 2 was there in the first place but it must have been otherwise the self propelled pulley on the shaft wouldn't spin.
