    This video has been reinstated! Thank you so much to everyone who reached out to help make this happen!! Thank you, Green Stuff World, for retracting the copyright claim as requested and giving me a public apology. I have adjusted the name and the thumbnail to show the new name of these Vallejo paints.

    This is the best review I've seen for colourshift paints so far, hands down. I love that you actually explain the principle of direct/indirect transitions before demonstrating each colour shift properly! Very comprehensive and informative, thank you :) Filming this must have taken ages!
    I've used the GreenStuffWorld chameleon paints a fair bit and will almost certainly be adding these to my collection.

  • @sandmanhh67
    @sandmanhh67 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With my own experiments with GSW, Instar and Turbodork shifters if you use a pale or white gloss, or a pale gloss metallic as the base coat it changes the qualities of the colourshift to more of a tinted pearl effect (with the darker colourshifts, with paler shifts then you just get a slight shift pearl shimmer).
    The advantage I see in these is the different colourshifts they offer - previous manufacturers seem to have all pretty much copied each others "shifts" and just renamed them. These are a lot more developed and offer wider colourshift ranges. I will be buying some....
    Check out Instar Paint - they do some amazing colourshift and effect addatives in their Spectrum and Shift ranges

    GSW should fire whoever from their Legal Department thought that mentioning a brand name in a review is valid for a strike under DMCA.
    Assuming all the footage, audio and visual is your own, and you don't try to claim that the products reviewed belongs to you, Fair Use prevents this sort of strike. (Obviously there can be fringe cases where this doesn't cover.)
    This is why food reviews, miniature models and even movie/album reviews are 100% legal.
    Even the packaging doesn't warrant a strike. I wonder what kind of nonsense they used to push this by TH-cam.
    Never shopped from them, never will.

    • @idontwanttopickone
      @idontwanttopickone 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was all Green Stuff World. They well over stepped the mark. TH-cam just followed their legal complaint, because TH-cam (like all of us) don't want to have to deal with lawyers of they don't have to. Green Stuff World shouldn't of even asked TH-cam to demonetize any of the videos - instead Green Stuff World went after everyone who has used the term "colorshift" (and "chameleon", apparently) on TH-cam because they've very recently tried to registered the trademark in a small number of countries and are presumably going for global trademark registration to push vallejo out (they currently have tried to register colorshift in Japan, Spain and the US, apparently) despite the fact that the term "colorshift" had be previously trademarked globally by other companies.
      I personally won't bother buying from Green Stuff World. This kind of legal cr*p is what defines a company as rubbish in my mind.
      To be clear, copyright and trademark unique original work - sure. But don't try to abuse the system by copyrighting or trademarking a single word that has been used by loads of other individuals and companies before you, like you invented it. It's just deceitful and childish. Especially to then attack individuals expressing innocent opinion and critique of a rivals product. It's just a sign a company is terrible and shouldn't be supported.
      I won't be buying from Green Stuff World if I can help it and I would advise others to do the same. We don't want aggressive companies like this in our hobby.

    Good video, but you can never fully capture the effects of colour shift paints on video, or on a still image. They're much better with the naked eye.
    I was pretty stoked when Vallejo announced they were making their own colour shift range, but these look a little "flakey". Its difficult to avoid this due to the nature of the mica pigments used in the paint. But Vallejo's look like they're falling behind the likes of Turbo Dork, Greenstuff World or Instar. I've tried making my own and it takes a lot of trial and error finding the right mix of pigment and medium.
    Out of interest, what nozel size were you using on your airbrush? Most paint manufacturers recommend a 0.5mm nozzle due to the size of the pigment (they're huge compared to normal paint), but if you're prepared to be patient you can get really smooth results if you use a smaller nozzle size, over-thin the paint, and use a couple more coats than usual.
    You can brush these paints quite easily, despite what people say. The trick is to use a lot of flow improver and treat them like a glaze. You can build up multiple layers without huge brushstrokes spoiling your paintjob. In fact, if you're painting smaller areas you can get a smoother finish if you use a brush.
    One other tip is to use a thin coat of gloss varnish between layers. You can use this same technique when applying them through you airbrush too. Its the same kind of technique when spraying a car with any kind of pearlescent paint. You're trying to build depth and give light more chance to reflect through the layers. If you're using any kind of pearlescent/colour shift paint your finish can never be glossy enough!

  • @Winterydee

    Nice to see this version is back being viewable again.
    I fail to see how GSW could slap your channel with a copyright strike, being as you are simply reviewing a publicly sold product that you had no part in naming is the first thing. Secondly their Trademark or Copyright seems to be limited to the nation of Spain/possibly EU, but your TH-cam video(or at least the I'm watching) is posted to youtube.com which is USA registered website and is focused for NA viewing mostly. Lastly Colorshifting has been a thing for decades in the cosmetic industry and even longer in the automotive industry.
    IMO, it seems like two hobby specialty companies have a business fight and unfortunately your channel got pulled into it a little bit. I hope GSW at least sends you some free products as the smallest measure of reimbursement of their actions against you, they do make some pretty stuff.

    First time hearing about these paints and they look fantastic, cant really think of a use for them at the moment but thank you for the showcase anyway. Oh i just thought, maybe i could paint my cars from the marvel crisis protocol core set.

    hmm....some transitions seem better than others, but all in all, these look pretty rad. too bad im not painting chaos, or id use these for everything.

    I have to say I took undue amusement in watching you struggle to watch your viewfinder while twisting that giant piece of cardstock for just the right angle. My take away is that this will likely be better for larger flatter surfaces prone to movement, tanks, armada ships, cars for gaslands etc. The effect would likely be really dazzling on a jeweler's stand.

    Do you have any visual examples to show how the color shift paint will look on different geometrical shapes, like spheres and polyhedrons?

    Great video, really allowed me to determine which pack to get. One question though, what black gloss primer did you use?

    I’m curious what effects come through when these paints get mixed. Guessing one would have to go pretty translucent to keep this effect with other paints and inks. Though what happens mixing these with each other?

    Interesting as these seem to be slightly different from other flip flops. Slightly more on the metallic side or am I wrong here?
