A day in the life of our cats
which is technically not a single day because turns out it's difficult to film cats
and also I wanted to add Haku cam
which couldn't be filmed at the same time as normal Haku
or you would see Haku with a gopro hanging from his harness
but the base of the video is one day
we just refilmed some parts where the footage sucked

Q&A
Why do we put water in their bowls:
To force them to drink more since cats (especially cats that eat dry food) tend to be dehydrated a lot and it can cause health issues like urine crystals and kidney stones. Haku has urine crystals once the first year we had him.
Why don’t we just feed them wet food?
When we initially got our cats we had a hard time finding food that Haku and Nagi would eat that didn’t also give them diarrhea. Poor Poki also is susceptible to bloody diarrhea and will leave blood spots all over the apartment if we’re not careful with what he eats. Our vet recommended this specific one (Prescription Diet... I believe Digestive Care) and now they all have A+ beautiful poops. We also often boil and finely chop chicken, and sprinkle that on their food. We’re open to possibly trying other types of food for them sometime, but we just want to be careful because their stomachs get upset easily and if Haku doesn’t like it he just won’t eat.
But dry food is supposed to clean their teeth and now that you put water in it their teeth aren’t going to get clean:
Dry food doesn’t really clean cat teeth very well, but we do have cat tooth brushes (silicon finger brushes) and cat toothpaste and we actually brush their teeth (although not every day).
Why don’t you try water fountains for your cats:
We’ve had them but he cats kept breaking them, and after a while no matter how much we cleaned them they’d start getting slimy and the cats wouldn’t drink from them anymore. I’m definitely willing to try again sometime if I figure out something different I can try to stop it from getting slimy! Also I always forgot to turn it off while filming and we’d have a hundred comments saying “THE WATER NOISE THO D:”
Why don’t you guys sleep together:
Wat. We do!! Bed sets are really common here in Japan, where you buy either one big bed frame or two that lock together, and then each partner gets their own mattress so they can have exactly the level of comfort they want. We have two semi-double mattresses because sleep is hella important and I want my damn room to stretch! I have foam pads on my side because Japanese mattresses are as soft as wooden planks, so my side ended up higher than Jun’s.

I don’t remember which gopro we have specifically! It’s one of the older ones-we’ve had it at least for three years now. The sound quality when it’s in the case sucks so I’d recommend trying a newer one, assuming those are any better!
Have you tried giving a small fraction of dinner around 5, then the rest at 7? Just to reduce the mewing of course.

I'm so glad they make accomodations for Poki instead of just being upset with him. A lot of what he does can be frustrating but they know he's just a smart, former street cat and care for him with patience and understanding. And while he still has that "I need food or I won't have it" of his old situation, he really does love them and it shows.
I'm not saying Rachel and June are perfect, no one's a perfect cat parent. But you can tell that they try their best to keep their cats happy and safe and I really admire that about them.
I love that too ♥️ All any pet parent can do is try their best, and they're doing an amazing job.

I love cats, but I'm not really comfortable with indoor cats.
If you dont like indoor cats then dont get a cat at all. Indoor cats live longer and dont decimate ecosystems. Outdoor house cats have caused 63 species extinctions, keep them inside. And btw, how do you think Poki got his short tail? It certainly wasnt from being an indoor cat, he was miserable outside

@@furinahydroermSome stray cats here in the Philippines are just born with a short tail. In Poki's case, his tail was severely injured when they found and rescued him in a freaking high way. Also this is their old apartment. In their new house, the cats have so much more space to wander around.
I love how Poki cuddles with Rachel when he sleeps. Because she was the one who ran after him and saved him.
I had a cat who seemed to love snuggling with me. Then I discovered, it's a sophisticated alarm trigger: when I de-cuddled the cat, it meant it was time to do something else. To this cat, it meant "lead the stupid human to the thing I want". I suspect Poki of doing the same thing.

It’s big brain cat
I had foster kitten once - actually there were three altogether but two got big enough to be adopted out, leaving the smallest one left who refused to grow for awhile - that understandably kept out of the way when I ran the roomba in their room. Once he started to get bigger, the roomba started looking less scary and he would actively "hunt it". He got so used to it he would play with it every time I ran it - understandly the room wouldn't get as clean as it should so I would have either put him up so it could run in peace or run the normal vacuum - that he'd rather stay out of the way on higher ground. He was a Devon rex (a cat breed, likely mixed) and was one of the coolest kittens I've fostered so far.
I had a half-Siamese when I was a teen that chose me as "his" in the household. He slept in my arms with his head on my pillow every night, just like Poki does with Rachel. What a pleasure it was seeing this. That cat was my dearest friend at a difficult phase in my life, and it was a very special bond. We had nine cats, all former strays or kittens of strays we took in, and they were all in love with my dad! But this stray Tonkinese I found sick in our bushes, and who I helped get back to health (although of course my beleaguered parents paid the bills), chose me as his person. I was honored! My dear Hershey Bar kitty.

@@margotogram Not mine, they ate 1 small cup of food (each) every day. My female cat Gracie gained a lot of weight though, so in her last couple years we reduced to half a small cup. My male cat KitKat was a 20-ish pound manx and he still only needed a cup (as far as I know). My dog is a medium-sized half hound and she eats 3 cups all at once.

It really warms my heart to see Poki wrapped up in Rachel’s arms at bedtime! All three cats are wonderfully loved, but Poki was once a starving, injured orphan who lived on the streets... and now he lives a happy, comfortable life with his family! He clearly has so much love and trust for them all. I’m actually tearing up right now

Dry food (Kibble) in the water I have never seen that before. I feed dry on its own also a separate bowl of wet meat and a bowl of water. Good idea as you say it forces them to drink more water. As long as they are happy and healthy then there you go. Best wishes from the UK

Poki being Rachel's little spoon is honestly the most precious thing in the world. I don't know why, but I didn't expect him to be such a cuddlebug. Also, Haku learning how to turn on the Roomba by mimicing you guys is really awesome from an animal behaviour standpoint, I'm just imaging that the Roomba's robot brain is very confused by the obstacles Haku creates for it by hitting its sensors.
Doesn't the roomba keep trying to adapt with each use? It's tries to learn from its environment each time, to improve the way it works. So all those cat paw might be registered as an obstacle and keep changing its data. It might actually implode eventually 😂😂😂

So I have watched several of your videos tonight (depression made me seek cats, thank you), and this one was interesting not only in watching your babies, but MY baby, a big black male, was suddenly enraptured and needed to watch it with me. He was completely fascinated, which is rare for him! Usually he doesn't care about screens!

Thanks to you guys using the brush glove in this video, I was inspired to get one for my aunt, who's cat hates to be brushed normally, and he loves it! He purrs when getting brushed with the glove, and my aunt and uncle can finally get all his loose fur out, which should really help with their allergies! I'm so grateful to you guys!

I’ve never seen dry food added to a water bowl before. I can see it makes sense as most cats don’t drink enough. When I eventually get my new pair I’ll definitely try this out .👍

@@timidddle Rachel and Jun have said before that the vet told them Poki was overweight! They're slimming him down (I think Rachel said he only needs to lose a few more pounds, and then he'll be at his ideal weight; it was mentioned in their last vid about doing random stuff all day), but giving him more food wouldn't help in this case. He's just a very vocal boy lol
I see.. Sorry then I forgot what's in previous vlog. I had a cat too so I kinda understand the feeling if it got overweight. I believed they treat Poki well and be happy.
I wouldn't be able to take it. I'd have to give him a few treats in the meantime (once he quit meowing for a minute to reinforce the no meowing). Luckily mine are good at eating when they're hungry and not overeating, so they can free feed, but they will sure let me know if they can see the bottom of the bowl at any time. *my cats hovering* *my cats all staring at me* *my cats walking back and forth and then getting up on me* Me: oh are you guys out of food? My cats: it's about time you got it! Me: to be fair you all do that if you're out of water too and the dog bowl always has water...and don't act like you won't drink out of that because I've seen all of you do it!

I’ve been watching for years now and I’m so impressed by Jun’s English. His accent has improved so much and you can tell he’s put such an effort into learning.
I would say somethings about Rachel’s Japanese but I don’t know the language lol, so any Japanese sounds good to me. I love this channel. I know one day you guys will leave to focus on having a family or just live your lives, but until then, I’m so glad that you were part of mine.

fun fact Nagi (and Haku) probs dip their paw in the water to "test the freshness". their logic is if the water moves it's fresh (hence cats being fascinated with taps) but then have to deal with a wet paw and need to lick it clean. NOW YOU KNOW
