  • It's been a long time coming, but the Dream Reef Tank finally has its cabinetry and therefore, I was able to fill this sucker with salt water.
    This video will cover the detail in the beautiful custom made cabinetry made by the kitchen design centre (thekitchendesig...)

    • @ParkersReef

    Re the Blum Aventos and corrosion..ya hopefully reducing humidity will do the trick.
    In my experience so far with canopy door lifters I’ve only seen corrosion due to electrolysis caused from dissimilar metal components touching combined w/humidity.
    I suppose another level of corrosion protection could be spraying the components with a silicone based coating of some kind (?).

    I think its possibly the most gorgeous stand I've seen, while remaining extremely usable. The motorized canopy is incredible. The stand seems quite tall or am I seeing things? I personally like taller stands and think all the commercial ones are too short. How tall is it? Seems 40"+? Also, mind sharing what its made of? Other than the aluminum frame, which is obvious. Are the panels plywood or something else, and what is the finish? I suspect laminate but not 100% sure.

      Hey Peter, yeah I must admit I haven't consciously added it up yet - but in loose figures we have:
      Tank: $4k
      Stand $5k
      Cabinets $5k
      Sump $4k
      Battery system: $3k
      Skimmer: $2k
      Plumbing: $1k
      Light frame: $1k
      Return Pumps (already had, but $2k ea)
      Extras (media, cabinet lighting, foam, acrylic, etc.) $2k
      So far looking at around $30k. Crazy when you add it up, so let's not :P

    What kind of aquarium system would you think it would be best for a planted freshwater tank with discus fish?

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn’t answer with any kind of educated response I am afraid, I have no knowledge of freshwater systems. See what your local fish store recommends, but waterbox or Cade make lovely systems

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah great question! This will be a little controversial, but I am not a huge advocate of QT. Well, not home QT anyway. I do place corals into a frag tank for observation for a week or so before putting into the main display. Other than that, nothing with inverts and with fish - I only buy fish that are healthy and pest free from my lfs. Sometimes they will QT a fish for me if necessary, but often not.

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it can be, but I'd recommend building a lip or something for it to sit on to hold the weight and then just have the magnets hold it in. What is your stand made out of?

    In the event of (hopefully never) catastrophic failure of those hinges, do they stick open or come crashing down unhindered? Just a thought...
    As you like led lights, maybe stick some under the base of the cabinet so it illuminates the floor clearance gap of the doors?

    • @ParkersReef

      The hinges actually operate without the motor drive nice and smoothly too (that was something I should have pointed out.... damn!) So they wont come crashing at all. Yeah have thought about adding some glow to the underside, but not sold on it just yet..... :)
