Daniel's Dream Reef Build

  • Join me as we take a look at Daniel's incredibly well thought out and built dream reef tank.
    Far too often we rush into these builds and then regret not doing parts differently down the track. Not only has Daniel taken his time going over every detail from the infrastructure to the stand, scape, plumbing and equipment, but he has built it all so that he can change his mind or plans at ease.
    This is one well thought out build!

    Just an idea for the canopy, on the side facing the main room why not bring the canopy down flush and on the opposite side put a slim vented grille across the length of the tank for ventilation. You get the benefit of venting without the light leak.
    Absolutely beautiful build. Clearly so much thought and hard work gone into this. Doesn't matter how much money you have or put into something, its still hard work to plan and build something that is timeless and practical. Kudos to Daniel. Can't wait to see the finished product.

      Yeah not a bad idea at all! Will see what Daniel comes up with and visit again in a couple months once things are wet :)

      Love this idea Liam and it actually aligns with my current thinking. Canopy will definitely come down to the tank with some for or ventilation.

    Watching this is like a trip down memory lane. The advantage of being able to essentially build the house around the tank, makes a big difference, and the impact of the end result is so worth the effort. The upside down desk leg idea is possibly the single best decision I made for my build (also borrowed!), and I was lucky that it very nearly bolted straight to my trusses inside the roof cavity. This will be a great build, definitely following 👌

    Great work - definitely don't love the idea of the floating canopy due to the escaping light, but this project is amazing!

    Looks great. I cant wait to see it set up and running. Two things I’d suggest would be to reconsider the form play on the bottom. Over time even the moist air will penetrate it break it down. I’d use HDPE sheets or at least scuff and paint the form play with a poly or latex based paint all over it. The other thing I’d suggest would be to install a vented exhaust fan in the ceiling to remove both hot, and moist air in the area above the tank in the lighting area.

    I have a 6ft long by 3ft wide peninsula and it is great to look at from both sides and very good to be able to work on it with no nasty inaccessible places where problems can develop. Great looking scape

    I run a large peninsula as well. In terms of flow from the far end, I mounted gyres upside down from the eurobrace, less obtrusive to look at & you can clean the end panel of glass easily, given there’s no magnets on there. Could be an option here as well

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely could be a good option here, thanks for the suggestion

      @@ParkersReefI run gyres from underneath the eurobrace as well. It will be interesting to see how Daniel does his ATO. With my peninsular when I turn the wave makers off to feed the level in the tank raises only a fraction at the clear end causing the level in the 200l sump to fall enough for the Tunze ATO to cut in

  • @Snow2452

    I love his rock layout, going to be a beautiful tank.
    Out of the box thinking for his hood eith the gap, could he do an inset vertical lip on the top of the tank that would come off with say an inlay. I mean in terms of the lids already on the market that can have mesh inlays or open and then just have a vertical step up on the insdie lip. The gap he laid out would in my eyes look perfect and that idea would close that gap to stop blow threw etc. just my two cents, guy clearly is not shy of hard work. Beautiful setup

    O wow I was thinking about how to lift my future light frame with these sit stand desk parts. (Inspired by you Sam) Apparently you can put them upside down! That solves my design challenge. Do you know which brand his are?
    Always looking forward to your next video💪🏼

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you enjoyed it!! To be honest, most of the sit stand desks are made the same these days, but when looking at one, just make sure it can go upside down without falling out and you’ll be right.
      Yell out if you have any other questions!
