Haha, we talked to him more about the cameras, off camera, and he honestly didn't seem very interested. He, however, was very interested to tell us about the lizard that lives in the domes.
Seeing 220 offerings is pretty awesome. I shot an expired roll of Vericolor III in 220 this fall and having 26-27 shots on tap in the Pentacon Six without having to reload was a nice change.
I have been able to order fresh Shanghai gp3 100 speed 220 film from random vendors in China. I have a fujica gl690 camera that would only normally shoot 8 shots in 120, but 16 with 220. My girlfriend is somewhat new to film photography, so her mamiya 6 goes from 12 shots to 24 respectively. It suits her style of shooting, which is spray and pray. We shoot handheld street photography, so 100 speed film is a bit limiting for our style, but that isn't the films fault by any means. I might have to try that reflex labs 220 film out, I has no idea it existed. Cheers
Yes! The Mamiya 7 needs 220, sometimes you just get into a groove and…you need to swap rolls. I have some expired Fuji 160s 220 that I can’t bring myself to use, definitely looking forward to getting a few rolls of this!
I've used my hoodie and/or blanket as a makeshift film changing tent to great success multiple times, it's mostly due to problems similar to yours where I have to open the camera back and I've never had light leaks using that method
I have been rolling my own 220 for about a year and a half, and I love it so much. And I’ve sold some to other people as well, everyone agrees that this is an awesome format. In fact, I may be part of the reason they are making 220, as I asked about getting some of the 120-width Aerocolor stock they had to make some 220 if my own. I unfortunately couldn’t afford to buy a roll off them, but they said they would look into 220. And they did! I’m happy it seems to be coming back, and I’m happy that I can be just a tiny part of why. Go 220!
Agreed, while I understand it's not for everyone, 220 is super helpful when I'm out camping and traveling, and helps me get the most out of any light situation!
I like the idea of geting back 220 rolls but becouse of their marketing I prefer to buy 2 rolls of 120 becouse it is cheaper then 1 roll of 220 and that sucks
220 film give you 32 exposures with a 645 camera almost the same amount as 135 -36 very convenient, other advantage is better flatness of the film what result in sharper images by open diafragma. (Contax 645 has even a vacuumsystem for 220)
One roll of 220 is more than twice the price of 120, unfortunately. You pay a premium for them having to manufacture _less_ rolls to sell the same amount of film. That doesn't sound like the smartest idea for a format that quite few people can use to begin with!
Nice photos. I was told I could schoot 220 film in my Rolleichord if it does not have a frame counter window . It doesn't and I have expired rolls of 220 film. Is it possible to do?
I just picked up a Pentax 67, I would love to put 220 roll in there. Saves time trying to struggle to load that camera lol I think 220 would shine for 6x9 users, I hate only getting 8 frames on my Mamiya universal and I always miss up a frame or two.
Don't beat yourself up about forgetting to change the pressure plate to "220"! It's an easy mistake to make and we've all made it!!! Glad to see that 220 is making a comeback!
I was JUST visiting MKE for the holidays but unfortunately didnt go through with a Domes plan--great location, graat shots, nice to see someone shooting in my hometown!
Shanghai GP3 does. They also offer other alternative formats like 127 and 620 too. It’s a 100 ISO B&W film and it’s pretty cheap, at least here in China
@@metalfingersfilmhe’s talking about Shanghai GP3 100 black and white film, they make all sorts of formats from 35mm all the way up to large format sheets. They even make “dead” formats like 127, 220, and 620. Oh yeah, and Happy New Year! 🎊
those were some nice shots you both got. and not setting the camera to 220 is a bummer, but understandable given how little anyone is shooting 220. to be honest, I'm not a big fan of the blooming in the highlights in some of the shots with this stock, and even though I want to support any small shop giving us more variety of films, charging $25 for a roll makes no sense to me, when I can hunt around and get some fresh portra 400 at 12 bucks a roll.
Yeah, I'm guessing the price will be competitive, otherwise yeah, shooting portra is obviously a fail proof plan. That being said, having to swap out rolls can be a nuisance for me when I'm out camping and the light is changing quick af, so I can see myself having a use case for it pretty often, to be honest!
I would have thought if you (as in a film manufacturer) were going to bring back 220 medium film you'd try out the market demand with a black & white stock first maybe at ISO 400?
@@wildechap Yes but I think you're not understanding the point I'm making. Why pick a relatively slow film stock when a 400 ISO B & W stock is more flexible and therefore more likely that there is a market for it.
from Wikipedia: The 220 format was introduced in 1965 and is the same width as 120 film, but with about double the length of film and thus twice the number of possible exposures per roll.

220 making a comeback is just exactly the news I needed to seriously consider splurging on a FUJI GSW690, at least they're reasonably priced for now.
I use it as my primary camera and man! The depth of the negatives, the overall resolution is just...so good and worth it
@@hmuz8388 i love the 28mm equivalent lens, love a good wide angle.
