It is so cool to watch someone explain how they construct or operate their system. I don't have a system but like very much to watch your videos. Thanks for sharing your operations and layout updates.
This remark is sooooo funny, but don’t let CA Gov ‘Nuisance’ know or he will tax you for the straw and send you to Nutty-fornia People’s Re-Education Camp. BTW, there are zero happy campers there. Happy RR’ing.
I am learning sooo much from this channel, Thank so much for teaching me and showing me how to do what needs to be done ! God bless Your Dad and You! Thanks again!
That's cool how realistic they can make model railways, specially like you said with the light pattern and sound pattern options on the Railroad crossing set up
Really nice video! I really appreciate you telling us which components you used, as it saves a lot of time that would've been spent looking for a good system.
Nice Signals and controller!!!! I am sticking with Logic Rail Technologies for controlling the signals and gates. It is much easier to wire and program. They also have an auxiliary output to control additional gates, lights, and bells.
Love that up dated signal kit. I watched Rob Bennett install signals and crossing gates with Switch motors it was very time consuming along with throwing in a few cuss words under your breath, I like the new kit!!!!
Great 👍 video Josh !! I like how you explain what and how you did your grade crossing. I also have a Walthers crossing signals like those .... so thanks 😊 for this information 🤩 !!!
Hello Josh, if you do a follow up on this video I’d like to see what it looks like from underneath the layout, when the little arms that operate the gates look like from underneath when they’re moving and again thank you for a great video and for sharing. Mr. Bill CNW
Great video , but the cost of purchasing everything is a lot more with more wiring and programming...MTH had a kit which was a lot cheaper but unfortunately they’re not making it any more JLWII 2000 had a video on it and it was just more simplified...
How did you hook up the piano wire for the gates? What did you hook it up to and in what spot to have them lower/raise completely? A few crucial steps we'd like to see. Nice detail however.
The approach sensors will trigger the crossing as long as they are activated. However, once a train clears the main and enters the spur (or a siding) the approach sensors will inactivate and the crossing will go up. Unfortunately, for that to work completely prototypically (that I'm aware of) would be to run the crossing control logic through JMRI and have track occupancy detection / switch position included into the logic.
This is an excellent video Josh, I too will be installing my grade signals on my layout this year. Good advice as well, and it look great on the layout!!!
Nice install, I have three gate crossings need for my N scale coming up. This was simple and who is giving dislikes. This just shows the hardware and basic installation. Some people just can't leave others alone.
Do they sell these for o scale too? I’m actually considering moving to HO because it seems to be a lot more realistic and you can fit more stuff into a smaller space. Just wondering if they sell these though.
Stafford Northern Railroad Dude if you’re looking for realistic excellent crossing gates in O scale, I highly recommend to look at the crossing gates by Z Stuff For Trains. They come with the sensors, bell, control over how fast the gate moves, it has everything built in with timing, they gates rise 6 seconds after the train passes and if the signals are triggered by a train and the train doesn’t reach the intersection by 12 seconds the gates will rise automatically. Everything is built in, NO table mount and drilling required. Take a look for yourself on www.zstuffexpress.com/product-page/dz-1010-crossing-gate-set-o-or-s-gauge
Is it possible to extend the gate arms on the NJI 1172 gates by using brass? I was looking at the Leonardtown Road X-ing on the CSX Popes Creek Sub, so I wanted to see if I could match it close to what it is.
Great video. Awesome tutorial. Minor question : The crossing arm in the foreground didn't raise up to full vertical like the one on the other side. Was there a bit of flashing from manufacturing to trim off or is more in depth fiddling needed. Motion is fantastic and everything looks great !
Hi Josh...real nice set up . what voltage does the control unit run on & is ok for dcc im 82 & cant wait to have a go at this great set up thank you for sharing...U.K. American railroad modeler
So to control a crossing buck flasher, it will cost $208.00 for the detection kit and the controller kit. I think my Arduino will be a cheaper alternative. Cheers from eastern TN
I think, if you were to put an expansion spring on the servo, so when the gate goes down the servo has a little bit of something to help put some force on the servo and make it lower without jittering. Just an idea lol
Josh are you running this off of track power? Your view from under the bench shows a red and white wire plugged in where the power connects. If so was there anything special you had to do? I have seen this question elsewhere in the comments but I don’t think it was answered yet? Thanks
I would consider buying from Signalogic Systems their grade crossing system, but their website shows no news updates since 2012 and the link to download the CR-2 manual is not working. I wanted to read the manual as I plan to build a switching layout which requires depending on length of locomotive and wagons the ability to stop half way across the grade crossing and reverse into a industry etc, and was curious as to whether the system was smart enough to recognize these movements.
I would get in touch with Kevin at Signalogic and let him know. He should be able to fix the manual issue or share it with you if needed. Thanks for watching!
@@nsmodeler24 I sent a email to Kevin and he sent me the manual and he has also fixed the broken link for the pdf CR-2 manual. Thanks for the informative video.
Hey man amazing video quick question a friend of mine was wondering if you do the same with bachmann ez track with drilling holes for the sensors and connecting the control mechanisms
You used photo cells instead of I.R. i did too. When the lights were turned off the bell started ringing and the gates lowered! So I installed some leds in trees, etc. Now the sysrem works in light or dark.
Hi Josh, excellent video as usual :-) On a not entirely unrelated note I am a UK UP modeller and I was just wondering where your hand operated turnout switch lever comes from (0:46 and 0:55) and is it operational ?
Thanks for the kind words! That was scratch build using a details west stand and indication plate, and the lever was bent from brass wire. I wanted to make more, but it was very time consuming. - Josh
What if a train thats shorter than the distance between two sensors stops between two sensors, i.e. no sensors are blocked. Wouldnt that fool the system into thinking the block is clear?
It is so cool to watch someone explain how they construct or operate their system. I don't have a system but like very much to watch your videos. Thanks for sharing your operations and layout updates.
Very cool man! Thanks!!
All that's missing is a SWIFT truck going around the gates and getting hung up....BOOM! lol
Lmao..........Sure-Wish-I'd-Finished-Training........SWIFT
Needed to show more. Hooking up everything.
Note: the straw method is NOT approved in the State of California.
Thornapple River Rail Series , very funny! Sad, but true.
Lmao

Is it because of Mexico being next door? Lmao
You could order plastic beverage straws online at amazon for beverages at home and for hobby modeling use.

THANK YOU...for sharing. Enjoyed, very nice setup.
Very nice layout ! Love seeing your updates .
Thanks for telling me how to operate crossings and i love your Train model videos
Thanks! Much appreciated :)
Nice to see the signal lights and gates separate.
Nice to know what you are using. Seems to work well. Nice outtake at the end.. Thanks for sharing.

First Nice video Josh! It's super helpful! Have a great day! I've been a fan since 2015!
Much appreciated. Thank you!
Great video Josh! Next I wish you would show us how you custom your switch stands and yellow handles!
The signals look and operate great!
That ending tho. 😂😂
No acknowledgment lol lol
Think a lot of ppl clicked off before that part.

Wow! Amazing!
Thanks Josh! Nicely done.
this video was super helpful thank you
im making a layout of my own based off of florida so this vid helped out alot

Great ideas I can use for my layout.Joe
11:00 I see another train on the other track
Edit: great video as always
Looks like a great system Josh, will check it out for my N scale Layout, looks like a easy install. Bob
Great video. I already have signals but I don't have gates at the crossing.
Nice install, I have three gate crossings need for my N scale coming up. This was simple and who is giving dislikes. This just shows the hardware and basic installation. Some people just can't leave others alone.

NJ international do 0 scale too and look more realistic than the Z stuff for trains ones that are plastic and more chunky (NJ ones are brass).

Does this system have a time out if the train doesn't reach the island sensors in time such as the train stopping and such?
Very interesting how to!
Cool

Great addition to your layout, could you list items you used
Rc servos? Nice. Great thing not only am i a railroad enthusiast, but also a nitro rc nut. Have servos for days. Mini to high torque servos.
Super setup
Wow nice work!!!!!
Will it work on a double track main ? Would I need to buy more photo cells? Like always awesome layout, thanks for sharing
I believe signalogic offers an expansion module for a 2nd (or more) main line. That can probably be found on their website.
So to control a crossing buck flasher, it will cost $208.00 for the detection kit and the controller kit. I think my Arduino will be a cheaper alternative. Cheers from eastern TN
Nice
Wouldn't the boom gates go up and down smoother if you used a worm gear?

great video!
Hey random question . .... what is the ballast that you guys use ? It really well done .
So the photocell sensors won't work at all in the dark? I don't run in the dark very often, but just wanted to ask. Thanks!
Do you know if this works for 2 tracks? I have a 4x8 layout and I’ve been thinking of getting a crossing
Dude!!!! Please tell me how you got that type 2 electronic bell tone! I’d love to try that out
It's included in the kit. When buying you select either mechanical (fast), mechanical (slow), or the e bell.

Yes: very realistic 🚂
Very cool. I wonder if anyone's made crossing gates that are powered by a little motor with a gear reduction for smother gate opening/closing......
Great video did you ever consider recreating the NS F7 A-B-B-A business train
I subscribed.Joe's train world videos 😀😀😀
Does the railroad crossing have different railroad crossing bell sounds other than the one or not?? Thanks.
Can you use this technique for any size gauge layout.
LOL That ending
Nice Viedo thanks 😊
where did you get the gates from?
Hi, I am having trouble hooking this up, do you have a video explaining how to program the CR-2?
Hey so I got the kit without the arms and I have no wires for them. Do I have to buy wires for them and if I have to can you send me a link to it?

Can this be worked to operate multiple tracks in one signal, and if so how do you do it
I wish the signaling series would be finished. Also, what's the music in the outro?
what track do you use?
Can I change the sound of the bells or the speed of the lights?
How would this work if you have a 2 line crossing ?
What track brand do you use?

where do you get that

Love those cantilever style crossbucks and the road crossing looks fabulous. ..have you seen my layout?.... I have a railroad crossing u might like
my grandson is realy into model trains where did you buy it
❤
What is the approximate total cost for what you have here?
AWESOME Video Man GREAT VIDEO I Liked fam thats whats up bro im your 800th like fam with support
Hello. I m having trouble installing azatrax D2T circuit
Can you provide me with the part Numbers? Thank you for this video
Is that an HO scale railroad?
How do you make your wood chip loads? Also, where did you get some of those wood chip gondolas like the first one on the train, 200140?
They were made from flat balsa wood (strips) and then thick saw dust was glued on top of that! They just sit on top of the internal bracing. - Josh
@@nsmodeler24 Very cool. Where did you get some of those cars that were right behind the locos?
if using lights only at crossing are all the sensors needed?
can this work on my dcc layout?
I have the Walthers (HO) 949-4333 Crossing Signal Flashers (Working Lights)
Do I need a resistor wit the signalogic set up??
What was the name of the suppliers again?
