    funny how this game deals with Plankton's fear of whales when this came out a few years before the infamous episode One Coarse Meal.

    By the way, I never was scared or saddened by the ending song for spongebob episodes, I thought of it as quite comforting, actually. Like, the episode is over, but I had a good time, it felt as a nice goodbye for me personally.

    It's really fun seeing people talk about their experiences playing old Spongebob PC games. When I was young I thought I was the only person who played these 😅 I LOVED Employee of the Month and Battle for Bikini Bottom (no matter how hard I raged) as well as Spongebob Obstical Odyssey (I have vague memories of that one but it was kinda strange)

    I used to love watching people play these games on TH-cam when I was a kid, it's so comforting taking this trip back and actually hearing someone talk about them!!

    The creature that actually scared me as a kid to the point I couldn’t play that particular level very often was the Soap Scum. There was something about the way they just slowly made their way over to you…
    Overall, though, this game was awesome to me as a kid- especially the nightmare segments- and probably my favorite of the non-point-and-click titles that AWE put out for SpongeBob, at least in terms of story. Also, convenient how you also got it at a book fair. I wonder how many of us have that same story…

    I own this game physically, twice, actually! It seemingly got two releases, once as Nighty Nightmare in a large box and once as CFTKK in a little jewel case. They're identical, the only difference is the name. I wonder if some poor kid got both, lol

    Nighty Nightmare was AWE??? Man, I remember this game.
    There were so many aspects that creeped me out as a kid. The enemies in the Spongebob levels genuinely traumatized me for years. The jellyfish level specifically scared the hell out of me. I will never unhear "I don't wanna THINK about what could have just happened to me! Oh know! I'M THINKING ABOUT IT!", because that's one of the death lines in that minigame, and as someone who sucks at stealth games, I died a LOT on that one.
    The Plankton nightmare sequence also creeped me out, because the fleshy background always just felt too real to me.

    That was a wonderful speech at the end. I'll try to follow your suggestion, but I find it difficult. I can't really re-experience these games as if I'm playing them for the first time again. It's still fun to play them again from time to time, but at the same time there's just this emptiness and unfulfillment that really wishes there was more to AWE's SpongeBob games timeline. More games or more undiscovered lore. Maybe that sounds a bit too silly, but it's kinda the sadness of nostalgia I feel and maybe it's something greater like missing my whole childhood and how much more carelessly I experienced life back then. Playing these games make me realise that more than they let me re-experience the old time again, unfortunately.

    i was literally just thinking of how much fun nighty nightmare was as a kid and wondering if it was even a real game

  • @BrandonWaters99

    It’s a shame how underwhelming “Nighty Nightmare”/“CFTKK PC” turned out. They must’ve had a MUCH smaller budget than their previous games. I can understand “Operation Krabby Patty” though, since it’s one of their earlier titles.
    I remember renting the Gamecube version numerous times as a kid. And I was given the PC version in 2010. Had the CFTKK artwork and sleeve. But the names on the files were “Nighty Nightmare”. I think the reason why the game is named and plays the way it does is because the development of CFTKK was an entire mess in itself. The original title was “Spongebob 40 Winks”. So somewhere in development, the name was considered to be “Nighty Nightmare”.

  • @shreksnow1918
    @shreksnow1918 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    That was interesting. It’s too bad the game isn’t fleshed out. It would’ve been nice to see this as a point and click adventure game (too bad those are basically dead) or a mini game collection that had actual variety (sure, some of the mini games in previous titles are on par with your average Flash game, but they’d break up the repetition). I really hope that somebody does a documentary video on AWE Games, talks to the people involved, and figures out what happened behind the scenes.
    Too bad those two games you mentioned at the beginning of the video weren’t real. It would’ve been interesting to see what they’d do with those.
    I’m definitely glad I grew up playing the console version of CFTKK and not this. That bizarre fever dream (pun not intended) has a special place in my heart.

    I kinda wanted to share a game from my childhood. its made by the developers of these spongebob games. I looked them up, and apparently they made the PC game of brats rock angelz. I really enjoyed that game by them too. except I couldn't beat the final level, it was a rhythm mini game. At least I knew how it all ended because I watched the movie before it!
    So yeah, the 2 spongebob games and that bratz game by AWE games, was really special to my childhood! Even though the spongebob games was borrowed by a neighbor

    I remember finding this game really difficult because of the controls and mechanics, mainly on Plankton's dreams. Man this game is nostalgic but also not really that good lol. Also I got this game on a multi game pack and it was advertised as Creature from the Krusty Krab and I was really confused on why the actual game had a different title lmao

    Even just hearing the music fills me with a certain uneasy feeling. This game had such an oddly sinister feeling as a kid. The SpongeBob levels just really didn't sit right with me. I wonder if this studios whole jellyfish being aliens plot inspired the planet of the jellyfish episode.

  • @wariolandgoldpiramid
    @wariolandgoldpiramid ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Gotta wonder though - why is this the only time they renamed game?
    Yeah, I guess because there wasn't actually a Creature of the Krusty Krab.
    But couldn't have BFBB and LCP also gotten alternate names so that they can be more distinct from the rest?
    Well, it's been fun watching your retrospectives.
    Any chance you could also review some of the non-Spongebob AWE games?

    i played this game as a kid and never ever heard anything about it during that point or after, i wasn’t sure it was even a real game cause of how there was just NOTHING. i only got to the nightmare version of the first level as far as i recall and i only found out this was a genuine spongebob title a year or two ago

    • @qje3204
      @qje3204 ปีที่แล้ว

      there was also some other game i’m remembering now that was a free trial and you just drove around bikini bottom in the patty wagon and it’s audibly tell you in the game every now and again that you were playing a free trial and when time was up (though from what i remember about THAT, was you could keep playing for some reason after the time was up..) but that game was probably just a random thing i downloaded.. given i was like 9 or 10 at the time probably lol

    I'm not really impressed. Some of the art and stuff is great and some of it's awful. I noticed Plankton's legs were all wonky in that opening cutscene. That monster mini stage with Plankton would have been a lot of better if they had done a Rampage Clone instead.
