  • Destruction and demolition crews work on clean-up operations of the Francis Scott Key bridge, which collapsed when the Dali cargo vessel lost power and struck it on March 26 , killing six people. Authorities hope that removing the bridge -- by cutting it into smaller sections and lifting them out -- will help rescuers recover all the victims' bodies as well as reopen the crucial shipping lane.

The first few seconds of this video are so revealing. The bridge just took a massive chunk out of the cargo ship.

Too bad. Such a catastrophic tragedy that was 100% preventable in more ways then a few. Prayers to the families of lost loved ones.

Funny how the cost of bridge fenders doesn't seem so expensive now.

One of my big pet peaves of 9-11. All hands on deck doing what they could with what they had, and 10,000 reporters and camera men standing around telling us what we already new because they are the press. Why are press peoples lives more sacred than the custodian, the secratry, or all the firefighters that day?? Want me to watch your channel get in there and help, quit using the excuse "that's not my job".

That's what i want to see more of. The actual details of the hardware involved and its removal. And less political posturing and less drama over six dead workers.

The ship company better be paying for this and not the tax dollars...

You’re not going to like the outcome.
Several treaties severely limit a shipping company’s liability in accidents ESPECIALLY if there was no criminal liability. I’m not sure if it’s the 1851 or 1924 maritime treaty on limiting liability.
Their liability and pay out will probably not even cover clean up let alone a new bridge or lost revenue from the channel being closed.
      It’s tax dollars or nothing.
      That’s life.

In today's high tech world with so many advancements, knowledge and experience we can produce these massive vessels that yield immense profits and revenue yet are held to yesteryear laws andiabilities? Oh so THAT'S why no one is talking responsibility. Once again PROFIT before mandatory safety regulations and laws inacted since the Sunshine Skyway Bridge accident 44 years ago. We were told then " this type of tragic accident will never happen again"...

The bridge portion that's on the ship partially out of the water. Could you partially flood a larger barge and slip it under flood it more for rigging to barge and refloat with help of crane and move whole section once barge pumped out. Maybe the large airbags too.

Just imagine how bad this would have been (6 is still bad enough) if this happened during rush hour traffic?
Kinda reminds me of the Nimitz Freeway collapse during the earthquake of '89 during the World Series in San Francisco...thousands of people were either at the game or had called "sick" to work and stayed home....had their not been a World Series that day @ 5:04pm, hundreds or more would have been crushed to death.

I am full of the reports on the bridge. I want to know what on the Dali caused the power failures? Why the HexL should it take the NTSB 2 Damx'd years, as it claims to tell the public what and/or who caused the power failures? Why was the Captain not held as a material witness, instead of allowing him to leave the US? This stinks!

"I want to know what on the Dali caused the power failures? " So does the NTSB and the shipping line ... they'll let you know when they find out.

I'd like to know who greenlighted this ship's voyage to SriLanka halfway around the globe... a trip expected to take 27 days? Curious as to why the Dali would leave dock with unresolved electrical problems? Why would the two escort tugboats pull away from the Dali before reaching open sea? Coincidentally moments after tugs pulled away all electrical power was lost. Main power, back up powers and the emergency power
Four generators somehow failed. We have zero answers from either the harbormaster pilot, supervisor or chief engineer. They have ship logs, a black box and multiple people around the person in command of this vessel as witnesses yet not a peep? We did grace the lip service of our Commander in Chief, NTSB Oz behind the curtain Pete, Governor, Mayor and even a 22 year old fisherman to all give us multiple opinions yet not one answer to a multitude of reasonable questions. Why?
Of course all Americans were assured we will pull together and pay for it as proud taxpayers we are.
