Glad you liked it. It's amazing Gary Brooker's voice is still there 50 years after the song was released in 1967 and has sold over 10M copies. .
They reformed in 1991 and have remained active to date. Procol Harum's current lineup includes Brooker (the only constant member), guitarist Geoff Whitehorn (since 1991), bassist Matt Pegg (since 1993), keyboardist Josh Phillips (in 1993, and since 2004) and drummer Geoff Dunn (since 2006).

@@REACTIONDIARIES yes you did pronounce it correctly which surprised me. When I lived and worked in the USA I was forever saying it's pronounced the same as Graham Crackers. There are 4 spelling versions of that name English, Irish, Scottish and Aussie (me). Mostly people call me Pottsy, a reference from Happy Days.

If you liked the orchestra and choir, you should react to "The good, the bad and the ugly" by the same (channel name is DR Koncerthuset). The video has 88 million views.
Btw., the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, also known as DR Symfoniorkester, is the orchestra of DR (Denmarks Radio), equivalent to BBC. But it is at the same time the national orchestra of Denmark. They go back to the 1920s.
We pay a £150 fee - a TV license each year per household, to have DR channels for free, but it also pays for things like this orchestra.
I would also suggest that you react to Eivor (Eivør) - an artist from Faroe Island. A good suggestion for a song would be "Í Tokuni".
I listen to this at least once a week. It gives a balance and has an amazing power to keep a individual grounded.

Yes, Joseph! A tremendous task by the audio engineers to mike and mix a live performance combining a full orchestra, sixteen voice choir, piano, B3 organ, guitars, bass and drums plus vocal by Brooker. Astonishingly realized!
That's the Danish National Orchestra and Choir. Gary Brooker passed away Feb. 19, 2022 from cancer. He was 76 years old.
I think Gary died in 2006. Sadly.

The "Voice" belongs to Gary Brooker, founding member of Procul Harum in the '60s. Just like wine, it gets better with age.

I remember this from 1967, the sound is still amazing after all these years, the orchestra were such a delightful addition. but Procol Harum made such an amazing impact with this song in the 60s but they never had such another massive hit as I recall but this will last an eternity.

This is a glorious rendition of this beautiful and timeless song that I grew up loving.
Along with Purple Haze, the anthem for the Summer of Love (1967) in Europe. I was in Denmark for ten days that summer, and this song was everywhere we went: the Tivoli, the Stroget, our hostel (The Vesterbro Umdomsgaard.). I cry every time this version; Booker was brilliant,

The Band is "Procol Harum", the lead singer is Gary Brooker. It was first released in 1967, and if you listen to that version, his voice hasn't changed much at all.....amazing. Was also considered by John Lennon and Elton John to be one of the greatest songs ever released.

When I would listen to the song when I was 15 16 years old walking with my portable radio I felt like my feet weren't even touching the ground
This song really helped my dad after Vietnam, he could zone out and relax and get things together when overwhelmed.

Gary Brooker was, and still is I believe, the lead singer of the band Procol Harum. This song shot to No. 1 in the charts on release. His voice has richened with age. The organ or an early synthesiser featured in the original version back in 1967,. I was 19 when it came out, and was one of my favourite songs of the time, and still is. He has other pieces at the same concert.

Open your eyes during the vocal solos
The Paramounts formed in Southend-on-Sea in 1960, playing R'n'B hits that were heard largely on pirate radio. They had a good run supporting many acts, including The Beatles, until the American acts whose songs they played started touring Britain making bands like them somewhat redundant.
The Paramounts disbanded and Gary Brooker decamped to London where he was introduced to lyricist Keith Reid. As well as R'n'B, Gary always had a love for Bach, so when he was given a sheaf of words by Keith to write music for, he thought he'd try to work some of the German maestro's approach into these new songs. One of these was AWSOP.
The combination of piano and Hammond organ had never really been heard before and (combined with the surrealistic words), it set people's minds on fire (including Lennon and McCartney), propelling the song not just into being not simply one of the best selling singles of all time but also to its status as the anthem for the Summer of Love.
By the end of 1969, the line up was the same as the original Paramounts (Brooker, Trower, Wilson, Copping) bringing things full circle, though decidedly more psychedelic.

The orchestra and choir was added and the singer Gary and the band are Procol Harum and they are performing this song 39 years after if originally came out. Gary sounds just as good here if not better than in the original. I like this version even better than the original. Another great song of theirs also from this concert is "Conquistador"

A musical masterpiece..
Procul Harum was a 1960s British band led by a poet hence the unusual lyrics with many refeferences to English litgerature such as 'The Millers Tale' from the 14th century work 'The Canterbury Tales' by Geoffrey Chaucer - a collection of (often Bawdy) stories of a group of Chrisian pilgrims to Canterbury Cathedral. If you have seen the Heath Ledger film 'The Knight's Tale', it is based on Chaucer's work and he appears in the film. The original version was our wedding song in 1973.
Gary Brooker wrote this song that he is singing with the Danish National Concert Orchestra and Choir!

The setting of the song performance. the great Orchestra parts the Hammond organ. The band which includes Gary's piano...
But above all the Beautiful lyrics. And above all that, Gary's vocal performance. The spectrum of emotions that he emotes... now I know why John Lennon played this song dozens of times every day for months because he like me, loved this great great great great great great great song! I

You certainly are correct in saying we need this kind of music. I lean toward heavier stuff but when a song is this good it touches most everyone. Sammy Hagar sang this as a member of HSAS on their only album, Through the Fire. HSAS is: Hagar(Sammy), Schon(Neal), Aaronson(Kenny), and Shrieve(Michael). You’ll have to see if Hubby has that CD. If not, he needs it. Released in 1984 on Geffen Records. The CD never had any hits but I like all the songs and that is a rather rare thing to find in an unknown release.

Regarding your question, "what is Procol Harum?" I've heard them referred to as an progressive rock band, a genre that includes Yes, ELO, Rush and Pink Floyd. Complex, fusing multiple styles.

Procol Harum were one of the earlier entries in what became progressive rock. They had two big hits in America and had a bigger career everywhere else. This Denmark concert in its entirety is on TH-cam.

I have seen this video reacted to many times usually, without pausing so I am not sure about the Copyright situation in respect of this song.

Have a strange one for you. This a Canadian band from Toronto , that recorded a song in 1982 called When I'm with you. Went nowhere really. Then in 1989 a dj in Las Vegas played the song and it got traction. It went to number 1 on the Billboard #1 upon re-release. The band had long since broke up, when the record label contacted them , they were couriers delivering parcels, 7 years later. They never got back together, but 2 members went on to form Alias.

Stunned that you can be so out of touch to not recognize Procol Harum!!! John Lennon played the original of this in his car many times over. Maybe you were living in a different cultural circle? Iconic progressive band that created innovative, emotional, beautiful music since the mid 60's.
I "STUN" myself everyday! lol. Once the song started I did recognize it, but it was a bit before my time- (by a hair) I just never knew who did it or the names of the musicians... I know, shame on me! But you learn something new (or forgotten) everyday. Cheers!
I could tell you were getting into this performance, and I'm glad to see someone that has experienced some of these type of performances live, like this old man, and remembers how it used to be. A lot of the younger "kids" react to this video are really surprised to hear great music that doesn't use autotune or other gimicks. Gary Brooker got better with age, like fine wine, and I think at age 63, sounds better than he did at 20.

Hey Larry! I will check into this, but as a rule of thumb, please keep in mind that I don't want to go too Obscure! It needs to have a history of some kind of popularity.
