    Irish bias or no a bunch of folks were high on Scales coming in to do exactly what he’s doing. A “club signing” he got buried at left back while CCV and Starfelt played every minute.

    Feyenoord had similar player sales to us this summer at 35m. Stengs was one of the four 6-9m players they reinvested in.
    We chose not to reinvest in any players at that level, and will deservedly finish 4th in the group as a result.

      I think we will spend it in January, ready for next year.
      I’ll say it again, when a manager leaves a well run club the only difference should be that you lose a transfer window - apart from your long-time scouted ‘project players’.
      I’m not sure it would be financially prudent for BR2.0 to buy in that higher level of player until he’s had a proper look at the squad and I don’t think you can do that in a pre-season.
      A bad or unnecessary £7m player for us at this stage is a disaster. BR knows he’ll only get so many per season. They’ve got to be right.

      @mjudec 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@beingthebastard January is the sensible time to buy for Europe, lets players bed in. However I think BR was maybe hopeful he'd have been given a fighting chance of this season's European punt.

    Despite the level of injuries at the moment and despite the fact that this Celtic side is probably far from Rodgers finished article I think each defeat in Europe will heap huge pressure on him irrespective of SPL form. In this regard he finds himself on the wrong end of a 10 year history of failure in Europe. Winning the SPL will of course soften the blow but really I believe the support are desperate( no hyperbole ) for something from Europe .

    great discussion guys,
    the only point i would add is LB's red card is on john kennedy and celtics pressing tactics which seem a re run of what happened under angeball,
    celtic forward line stood off Feyenoord , either they were running a 3/4 press , or they weren't coordinated in responding to triggers to press, long story short, Feyenoord transition , celtic backline in retreat , red card follows .
    the hybrid 3/4 field press is a ticking time bomb , and very hard to get 100% success rate with it , and good euro opponents will pick celtic off with this tactic, and it only needs to happen once or twice in the game to ruin an outcome for celtic. you would think conceding an extra 20 meters of space would buy celtic some time , but alas no. given celtics athletic profile , the choices are very binary , you either full court press , or you sit back behind the half way line, any other approach , asking for trouble.
    on a more positive note , before the first red, there were signs that celtic had managed to turn the 2nd half into an arm wrestle . this was not observed under angeball where momentum fell off a cliff after 30 minutes. dare we be cautiously optimistic that rodgers methods will have greater success at drawing or dare we dream , winning second half momentum.
    do that and celtic have half a chance of picking off the rest of the group opponents.
    such a great pity about the reds , because there were glimmers there of celtic nicking a result based on the momentum data.

  • @tiffer67
    @tiffer67 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Interesting title for your discussion. Lessons suggest a learning experience for the players. That's what it should be but the continual evidence suggests our players are sleeping in the classroom year after year. 1 CL group stage win in a decade was the commentator's stat. I was staggered when he said this. Really? I know we've been shocking for quite some time in Europe but if that stat is correct, it's shameful.
    Unfortunately the problem doesn't just fall upon the shoulders of the players & manager, whomever they may be at that time. The biggest problem lies in the fact that the club has now become a processing plant for players & profit. Too corporate for you? I'll offer up a car boot sale bargain hunter whose aim is to find that nugget for a tenner that immediately is in the hands of Christie's for auction.
    I'm not going to be overly critical of what is clearly a well run club/business. We're a football club first & foremost though & as such the balance between profit off the park & quality on it needs to dramatically shift in favour of quality on the park otherwise we're just going to see more of the same.

    • @mjudec
      @mjudec 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We're a well run business. We're a badly run football club. This problem spans several managers and multiple player pools, suggesting the problem lies elsewhere...

    Yes. I, too, am worried about our 'we-can-get-something-from-them-in-the final group game' narrative. Feyenoord's game management is far superior to ours. Plus, there is a naivete in our new signings. You can't argue with that.

    • @mjudec

    Re: Lagerbielke’s red, you are right that it stemmed for McGregor letting the man past, but that stemmed from the fact that McGregor couldn’t take the man out cause he was already on a stupid yellow. These silly things come back to bite you in CL football.

    • @mjudec
      @mjudec 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, we made problems for ourselves by getting yellows early in the game. Thought big Gus's first yellow was a bit harsh, but CalMac deserved his. A few Feyenoord players could've picked up bookings too, but ref seemed less inclined to book them.

    Lagerbielke’s wasn’t a straight red remember…it was his the first yellow earlier in the match that really killed him. Stupid foul after giving away possession.
    Also in terms of comparing signings with CCV and Jota, Holm has over 100 appearances under his belt and ranks highly among young players. Palma is an international who was playing in Greece so not too shabby either….just sayin’….🍀👍

    I'd predicted we would lose 2-0 or 3-0 & so I was completely right in that regard, although of course & just like everyone else, I never ever foresaw TWO sending offs for goodness sake & Big Joe Hart saving a penalty, but the harsh reality is that it could've easily been a 4-0 or a 5-0 hammering & if so, that for me would have already near totally sealed our fate as finishing bottom of our Group, but this ''achievement'' still remains a very huge big clear & present danger after only one game sadly. As for the game itself, yes we did great up until their first goal, but as Roy Keane would say, that's fantastic, but a pity the game lasts for ninety minutes & so once again O'Riley concedes a very stupid & very silly unnecessary free kick just like he did at Celtic Park back in April against our bitterest rivals & they scored directly from this free kick & oh dear, the Feyenoord guy did the exact same & then we're now only totally up against it & the not completely unsurprising and/or shocking collapse duly follows in the second half.
    As for how this first goal was conceded, for me it's ALL down to our so-called Captain to completely sort that wall out & to do so in conjunction with Hart & to be telling those guys in it that we just have to defend this free kick with every fibre of our being as the half-time whistle is practically upon us & to go in at half -time 0-0 is their rightful reward for all their disciplined hard work & tenacity in nullifying the opposition, but of course that's just not in Wee Callum's character or professional repertoire & so from our point of view, a very sloppy & very schoolboy type of goal is most stupidly conceded & even at only 1-0 down, we were never ever going to turn it around in ANY shape or form in the second half & even if we had eleven players still on the park.
    Now I don't know if it was you guys intention to speak as much about Wee Callum & Hatate as you did, or it just happened naturally as your conversation progressed & evolved, but for me these are the two central characters as to why we miserably failed on the night & for differing reasons appertaining to their own personal circumstances at this moment in time. Starting with the positive on Wee Callum, for me he played his very best football under Rodgers first time round & yes of course, he was a good few years younger then, but Wee Callum did have one huge big weakness in his game at this time & that was of disappearing for significant periods of a game & so much so you thought he had been substituted & thankfully Rodgers almost completely eradicated this, but after Rodgers left in 2019, it slowly crept back in & then returned with a vengeance & even more so after he was burdened with the Celtic captaincy & so now all we see from Wee Callum when up against even just a wee bit of quality in Europe, are games just near completely passing him by, with no significant and/or important contributions coming from him in ANY shape or form & as EXACTLY happened against Feyenoord & because he's been totally mistakenly canonised by the vast majority of the Celtic support, we've got five more years of this from Wee Callum & all because of that very erroneous huge big whopping five year deal he was given in the summer.
    With regard to Hatate, there is no doubt he is a very talented player, but for me & others too, his head completely went in the summer & when a player's head goes, it goes & it never ever returns until they leave, because they just completely don't want to be where they are now & of course, Rodgers is completely aware of this fact & that's why he was nearly always picking Turnbull ahead of Hatate, since you can never ever completely trust a player when their head has gone & that's exactly what happened with Hatate against Feyenoord & of course he never ever set out to play badly on Tuesday night & indeed it's completely not in his own personal best interests to play badly as this obviously may deter potential buyers, but the facts are only ever in these instances that when a player's head goes, he is completely not focused on the task at hand at his present Club & any other Club seriously interested in him will NOT be put off as to his form in the here & now because they know EXACTLY what the true Hatate is capable of & so there is every chance he'll be out the door for good in January & quite rightly so.
