  • Basic demo of an Ampeg VT-60 guitar amp. The VT-60 is an all-tube 60-watt combo amp with three foot-switchable channels. The three channels will let you switch between clean, more gain and crunch. The amp features 5 preamp tubes and 2 6L6's. I'll be playing through my ES 339 It's a semi hollow body with humbucker pickups. In this case, the pick ups are switchable to single coil, so I'll switch back and forth between the two. Using a sure SM 57 microphone plugged into my Presonus audio interface.

I had the head version some 8 to 9 years ago. Cranked it produced pretty awesome tones for stoner/doom. The distorsion has a pretty fuzzy nature with this one.

I loved my VT-120 head (R.I.P. 1998). The crunch channel was *so* much better than anything I have had before or since. That included a Carlsbro 60TC, a Marshall JCM 800 (ok that one was about a tie but my sister and niece stole it in 2010), and my current Marshall JCM 2000 tsl60.

I had this amp (head version 120 watt) and it got ripped-off by South Austin Music. I never liked the lead channel. It was a little too fizzy but loved the crunch channel and the reverb wasn't bad at all. Very very underrated amp.

I bought one of these new, from a store in Mesa AZ in 1990. Lost it in a car accident a year later. Wish I still had one, but it does have issues. Like the knobs. They always break or fall off. And the back is open, so no bottom end.

I have the same amp, was wondering how to set it up to get a nice gain sound...it sounded too clean I though but I had the knob on the left of the B channel too far up...same with the C channel...my only complaint on this amp is that mine doesn't seem as loud as many have said it should be, possibly I need to retube the gl6's or the whole thing...it does have a really nice sound to it though, I play a Les Paul custom through it....

i played in a punk band back in the mid 90's and my guitarist had this amp along with an Epiphone Les Paul, he really didn't know how to set up his stuff so when we went to do our first recording the engineer said "you sound like an angry bee" , he gave give him a Strat that belonged to this old 80's artist named Christopher Cross who was known for a song called "Sailing" i believe. Well the strat didn't improve the sound to much but it was mainly because our guitarist didn't dial in his sound because truthfully none of us knew what we were doing, he later sold it and bought a JCM 900 half stack and an SG Standard and everything improved

I had one of these and could not get a single good sound out of it, clean or dirty.

To me it sounds dark and not very complex. Crunch seems to be it's best tone. kinda chewy sounding.

Dude we get it. You have a channel. Now could you please stop plugging yourself on every video under every comment, it's annoying and really desperate.

I had the head version and it had an amazing sound but it was SO unreliable.

It stopped making any sound at all. not once, but three times it died on me.I took it to several amp techs, even one in the US (in from Mexico) - none of them were able to get it fixed :(

I might think this could be with specific models, in this case, this might be the case.Remember that I read some reviews reporting similar issues with it.

What a fantastically ill basic drive tone; just a boost and I'd be all good.Suppose like most Ampeg's , that it weighs about 2 pounds per watt...but I'll look it up.You can find all these 20+ YO monsters for cheap these days.No one wants the weight, or needs the output over 20 watts.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Yes, it's heavy. I rarely use the drive tones from ANY amp I use. Overdrives and distortion pedals do the trick just fine! Good thing is, we have lots of choices for gear these days!

Christian McFee I’m getting my VT 60 next week I need to know how the channels are set . Is it A super over drive. B semi crunch C fender clean. I have no idea but I’m gonna use my pedal board and there’s a bunch of pull out knobs I’m seeing. Would it be easier with a foot switch? Just asking.... thanks
