  • On this video I'll talk about many topics including why Why is my Cherokee 6 a MOST WANTED Family Airplane. My son and I are also On a On Cheap Fuel Hunt mission during these crazy times. Also, check out the bonus footage on how I take out the airplanes and fit them back into the hangar. Last but not least, Javier takes over the controls and is doing an amazing job flying and controlling the airplane.

    Ahhhhh, to be torn between two planes, useful load, fixed gear vs retract, turbo vs normally aspirated . . .
    We should all be so blessed!

      I actually have so many people and brokers wanting the my Cherokee Six but I cannot let it go yet. My children are growing and I will need it for family trips and for hauling stuff. The turbo is more for my business trips when I want to get going faster and for a new up coming project. But we are blessed indeed to be part of such a great privilege like general aviation! Yes, I look pretty closely at where I land and what the fuel prices are. I do to some extent adjust flight plans based on where 'cheaper' fuel is. But like you, I've needed the time savings my Cherokee 6 provided in my schedule, so I'm still flying. I have the 7th seat (and all 7 seat belts) for mine, and I have had 7 in mine when the kids were small and we had 3 adults and 4 kids. Still light enough to go with full fuel. Pretty amazing useful load, definitely helps with a family. When the kids were small, never had to leave fuel behind. Lately I've filled 6 seats (and everyone limited on how much baggage they could bring) and had to leave fuel behind, but even with the extra fuel stops, its saved quite a bit of time.
    Keep up with the great videos!

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing my friend. I totally agree with the Six having an amazing useful load. I've never had to compromise on fuel but I may have to start leaving some luggage pretty soon as these young ones continue to grow. I did a trip just a couple of days ago in the Saratoga and it was cool to be able to load it up to almost full capacity and still be able to takeoff with a sea level climb rate. But, the bad news is that I was at almost full capacity without my wife. So the Six will still have to be the go to plane for the family trips. Thanks a lot John!

    Fuel prices (aviation, auto gas) are insane. IMHO, we're getting gouged big time. Used to be that fuel followed the price of a barrel of oil. Well, no more! Not as long as consumers pay it.
    Fingertips on flight the controls is the way to go. Like you point out, you have better feel for what the airplanes wants to do - even in turns. Over-control leads down the path of just more over-control. Javier is demonstrating the light touch technique very nicely.

      @@FlyingDirty quick question. I am still on training and have not seriously began looking for a plane. I believe the Cherokee six fits my family’s needs the best. However, I am concerned that it isn’t the right plane to be able to make a trip in and out of Granby (kgbn). My wife’s family has a cabin at Grand Lake and we live over by Memphis.

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MisfitRZR With airplanes everything varies on your normal needs. The Cherokee Six is a very capable airplane but it’s difficult to answer your question precisely. There are variables to consider such as total weight, weather conditions, etc. It really all depends but that would be the same with any normally aspirated airplane. Also, flying up there can be very sketchy and you have to hand pick your days to fly up there. But if you are planning to fly up there often then consider a turbocharged. But for east coast flying it should serve you well. 😀

    It certainly has been a challenging time in that both supply and cost issues are very difficult to overcome. It just seems to be a never ending list of excuses used for justification for price increases. Meanwhile oil companies are posting record profits as a result. Exxon for example reported earnings between April and June of this year, that it made $17.9 billion, up from about $5.5 billion during January through March.

      Mostly park out on the ramp unless bad weather is coming in, then we arrange for a hangar. Typically a small fee for tie-downs, some are free, some will waive the fee if you buy fuel. We spent 2 weeks in the Bahamas and no issues parked out on the ramp.

      Thanks a lot and welcome to the channel my friend. I have a Cherokee Six 260 and also a Turbocharged Saratoga (300). But try not to fall victim to the 260/300 non sense. The reality is there’s really not much differences between the two at sea level. It is only at higher altitudes where my Turbocharged Saratoga will start to shine. But while I gain performance on the Saratoga I also lose 454 pounds of useful load against the Cherokee Six 260. The reason I’ve kept both! 😀

    I thought it was very odd that aircraft prices spiked when they did - and then continued just like real estate right through the economic slowdown. Gas prices are finally impacting that I think. Starting to see a few "deals" on some models - probably the people who were not regularly flying and with gas prices - that was the straw that broke the camel's back. First things to go are the boats and the planes. But RV sales are still at a record pace too - where are people getting all this money? Doesn't compute.

    • @FlyingDirty

      You are probably new to the channel so you probably did not realize I was referring to my other turbo charged Saratoga 😀. The TC Saratoga climbs out with sea level pressure at Centennial in the summer heat. But normally aspirated airplanes will struggle at APA. Another important note to consider is the Cherokee Six having Hershey bar wings and non retract vs the Saratoga's tapered wing and retract giving the Saratoga the edge on climb out. avionics master switch, and the magnetos. Than in the future I'm going to get the rudders from Logitech since I'm afraid that if I get it from another brand it might not be compatible with Logitech, If you get the flight switch panel though you have to install drivers for it from Logitech website so the simulator can read the switch panels input but I had to manually install the files in the driver since it wouldn't auto install them but it all worked out in the end lol

      The AD is past due and should have already been inspected and noted in the logs. But it should be looked at. I got custom inspection plates on mine when I got mine done for easy access and inspections. A pre-buy inspection should always be done prior to purchasing any airplane.

    Great finger tip coment!I I was taught that If you are working at flying you are doing something wrong! The plane knows how to fly we don't!

      That's a great way to put it! Back before I had an autopilot on the Cherokee Six trim was my autopilot 😀 If the airplane is well trimmed it just wants to stay where it's at. Great as always to hear from you my friend!

      For that small difference it could cost much more to fly there and back for a $0.64 difference. But when our airports were above 7 and the small ones at 4.99 I was all over it 😀

    I am seriously considering selling my 79 Archer. Fuel prices are just too prohibitive. $7 per gallon at my airport. Just about double what it was a couple years ago. I'm not getting any younger either. But, the market for used aircraft has started to shrink. So, maybe I'll keep it until I'm dead and my estate can worry about it. (-: Sadly, we own a large boat at Lake Powell, too. They've let the water level fall so low none of the ramps are usable. It hasn't been in the water for 2 years! They say it's the drought. Lake Meade is 187 feet below full. Powell is 165 feet below full. But strangely, Lake Havasu, where all the water is sucked out of the Colorado for California, is 4 feet over full pool.... Our lovely vice president is from California coincidentally.. I don't want to get political, but who we elect has consequences. We are seeing this in vivid color these days.

      Hi buddy! You make some serious concerning points my friend. It is stunning how we let it get to this point. But when people open there eyes 👀 and see what is really happening it becomes very obvious. Great point about the lakes drying up!

      Man, I really would prefer to sell one or the other but the Saratoga will not be much use for our family trips because of the useful load. Family trips and hauling in the Six and personal trips in the Saratoga. 😂😂😂

      @MindTesla ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FlyingDirty I hear you. That’s why I love the 6. But I live out at KARR so I don’t have to worry about DA as much lol. Field elevation is ~720.

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MindTesla I’m always quick to say that had it not been for our high density altitude I’d just stick with the Six. But the Saratoga has already proved to be a great addition. That airplane gets me to my longer cross country business trips so much faster. But perhaps after a few years when Javier is grown and doing his own thing then we can downsize.

    Its a shame about the prices of everything and yet certain people and certain politicians will try to talk as if we are in a good economy. Must be nice to be at the top and ignorant like the politicians.

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      With a comment like that you sound like the total ignorant. There’s a difference between accomplishments vs being hateful. Accomplished folks wants others to succeed. But the hateful remain stagnant and ignorant. Unfortunately the ignorant people that remain without progress in life become selfish minded and are not tolerant of others successful experiences. You see, my goal is different than yours. My goal is to inspire others that dreams can be accomplished. But it will require mental discipline and a genuine effort. That which the ignorant cannot process well. Comparing a child of God vs evil politicians means you think in selfishness just like those evil hypocrites. Open your mind and be just and wise or remain in social slavery and in mental discomfort. The choice is yours! I hope the very best for you!

      Hello; I don't think that Piper made a PA28-260. The PA28 line went up to the PA28-235. But I do think that Piper did make their line very confusing by mixing the PA28 Cherokee name with the PA32 Cherokee Six 😀

  • @rogersmart1766
    @rogersmart1766 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I believe they all are now PA-32’s which wa the originals Saratoga .

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, no my friend, please do not confuse yourself. The Cherokee Six was never a PA28. It's always been a PA32. But yes, the Cherokee Six, Saratoga, Lance, and the Piper 6X are all PA32s.
