This is one of the most underrated song UB40 produced, and also not that well known by people who don't really know there music.
Try and watch the video. It's about nuclear Armageddon.

This was a VERY important song from a very important album from an initially VERY important band .. it is so profound that it haunts me to this day . Great vibe , great lyrics . The band went on to shoot themselves in the foot , go down the showbiz covers route and then virtually implode with personality and ego issues .
That 1st album called “Signing off “ was iconic and Revolutionary imho .. but they never repeated that level of success or appreciation, but that doesn’t change the acclaim they rightfully earned with that album and tracks like this . Wonderful , just wonderful !

Great to hear some early UB40 before they became a rather formulaic covers band. This song is about the threat of nuclear war which was a real concern at the time. 'One in ten' was a big hit relating to the unemployment rate at the time. I loved their chilled reggae sound with serious messages lyrically.

The album Signing Off cut through the punk, disco and new romanticism and put out them in the shade until people became too uncomfortable with it and went back to their bread and circuses. At the time of this song nuclear war seemed to be when not if.

A UB40 was your 70's sign on card for social security money you had to go and sign on once a fortnight with the resounding words 'Have you done any work, paid or unpaid in the last two weeks'? The queue of vans outside waiting for their workers to sign 'The Dole' was just so funny I am a Northern bastard but Thatcher fooked us and we knocked her outta the park!
