    What a travesty the dissolution was. Amazing ruins. Really appreciate that which remains. Their drainage systems were amazing for the time. Interesting back story. The inclusion of map images is a great idea. 😊

    The tall iron railings on the wall weren't there when I was a kid. We spent many a happy hour climbing over the walls & playing inside! My nan and grandad lived right next door to it in a bungalow on Abbey Lane. It's very spooky to walk past it in the dark!

    I live a few hundred metres from the priory and I've had many a pint in the mill over the years. Sorry to say I've never seen any ghostly monks wandering about, the only spirits I've seen were the ones in bottles behind the bar. Having said that, there's definitely a certain atmosphere all over the site. I wouldn't like to say it isn't haunted. But I've never personally seen anything.

    • @Traveler13
      @Traveler13  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a lot of rumours or legends about the place and I did think it was very atmospheric but I would rather deal with the liquid spirits than the other sort😆👍

    There was a tremendous amount of wealth invested in the priories. The size of the buildings and stonework back in the day would have been the largest thing in the local area by a good margin and with no post industrial revolution carbon deposits/pollution the pristine stonework would have been stunning to see.
    They certainly invested a lot of time and effort to build these places without the modern technology we have today in construction methods. Great video and information ✌

    • @Traveler13
      @Traveler13  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you forget or dont realise how impressive these structures must have been in their time and it was only the Christian church or royalty who could affort to bould projects like this. and some of the stonework is massive, not quite Megalithic but very impressive 👍

    What a wonderful ruin. Imagine what it was like as a active monastery. I used to live near the ruins of Furness Abbey an amazing place and I at least could feel the sacredness of the place . It still had a prayerful atmosphere.
