I loved my sweet, smart and loving Tuxie the same.
She crossed the rainbow bridge a few years ago, and my heart was truly broken.
She was so amazing, and she knew when my dear Mom was going to have a breakthrough seizure about 8 hours beforehand.
She’d visit each one of us before she “did the rounds” and went to bed.
She’d wait for my Mom at the bottom of the stairs and go up with her to her room every night, at the same time, like clockwork.
She’d spend time with Mom and if she sensed something was brewing like a seizure, she would keep closing Mom’s book and even knock her reading glasses off her face until she put the book and glasses aside.
Then we knew that even with the meds, that next morning she would have a breakthrough seizure, but we were prepared because my sweet MS Kitty let us know.
She was the most wonderful cat in every way.

I have 3 cats. 2 Tortie females & 1 Tuxy male. Myrtle is the mother of Millie (a Tortie) and Billy (the Tuxy). Myrtle was put out by someone on my street over a year ago, pregnant. She and 2 kittens eventually ended up at my house while the kittens were still nursing. I fed them outside until the evening they almost were killed by 2 stray dogs. Thankfully they all got up into a tree safely. That night I decided they'd have to come live with me inside. I wasn't in the market for any pets as I'm at an age where I may die before they do and I just didn't want to deal with that. But, fate had a different route for me to take. These 3 furballs were sent to me at the right time I fully believe, at the beginning of the pandemic. I live alone and having these 3 sweet kittles with me during the long lockdown made my life infinitely more bearable. Now they're all grown and spend most of every day lounging, wanting for nothing. Life is good.

My first Tuxedo cat became a family legend. On his own he sorted out how to turn the kitchen faucet on and off for a drink. Open the screen door during summer to let himself out and in, and to my then child’s minds most amazing he taught himself to use our toilet (but only the toilet we children used never our parents bathroom). He did have a few super annoying traits he lived to terrify you he’d hide on the top of a high wardrobe and then cry as if he desperately needed help and when you walked in to “help” him he’d scare the daylights out of you by leaping on your shoulders/head. He also would wait quietly under the couch till we were engrossed in the program and reach out to grab an unsuspecting ankle. He lived a really really long time and all my siblings have Jupiter stories.

Actually “Tuxedo” cats are caused by the “recessive white spotting factor gene”.
The more of the “recessive white spotting gene” a Tuxedo cat has, the more white they will have. On occasion the gene can come out so prominent that the cat can be completely white. Also the “white” mittens is a separate gene.
I used to own a cat like this in the 80s, so I did research on it.
She was probably the most beautiful cat I had, and her “Tuxedo”
formation was totally balanced and even. I miss her so much.
Her brother, from the same litter, was a “GREY” Tuxedo, with
exactly the same markings, except grey color where black would be.

Yes, they do bring us so much joy! I second that.. I have a little beautiful long haired Tuxedo cat named Elmo...short for Mofetta or Mofette which means skunk. He has a stripe going down his nose, a little moustache, and a goatee that is white. He's very handsome and quite the little character. He came into my life about a month after another very special cat passed away. I didn't think I was ready for another cat, but a friend found him when he was just two weeks old screeching his lungs out...orphaned or abandoned, and smart enough to know he needed someone to love him and rescue him. I got him when he was about 1 month old, and he has been my baby boy ever since...about 11 years later. He's a bundle of love and sweetness, very smart, loves to retrieve balls and fuzzy mice toys like a dog. But, he won't hesitate to let you know when he's not pleased. He will hiss and makes fuss, but funniest of all is when he snorts at you to express his immense displeasure either at me or one of his other cat siblings. He absolutely detests it if I laugh because he thinks I'm mocking him. Luckily he's also very forgiving and normally just a happy little guy. Others have mentioned dog like behaviors. Elmo too...he wags his tail when you greet him.. just a short wag like " hi there!", loves fetch, and loves to roll over and over like a dog!

He appreciates all the chatter about him. I treat my cats like the special beings they are. I buy food that is good for them, a price tag doesn't equal quality as some vets/celebrities push products that might not be the best. And one of my cats who is 17 has a heart issue so a complete grain free diet isn't the best. Milk is a not good but I drink skim milk, Loomis has a few licks from my cereal bowl every other day, he's fine. If I smell a fart, I know to modify. And trust me, they're special need cats so I'm smelling for farts a lot of the time. I love when people see a cat drinking milk and everyone has advice. I also make a weekly treat of blueberry yogurt. Plain yogurt and fresh blueberries. I cook chicken (boneless, skinless, no hormone, no cage chicken) and barley twice a week. They have better diets than some people.
Mr. Loomis has a weakness for peanut butter. It's a hold over from my dog that passed away recently. Every now and then I give him peanut butter granola for a grain supplement. And if I have a spoon of it (I love peanut butter) I let him lick a bit off my finger.
We can keep our cats healthy and they can pass at a couple years or old age. I'd rather keep them healthy and happy. They're cats. There are times when a piece of pizza has been stolen and devoured in the living room. Even my blind cats know when the delivery guy shows up. 😸

We got our "Tux" from the shelter. Approx. 2yrs old. Some time later we'd be in bed in the morning & would hear this weird noise coming from the bathroom next to our bedroom. I would get up to investigate. All I found was Baxter "hanging around". This went on for sometime. Then one morning I heard the noise "again". This time I opened our door (which we kept closed at night) very quitely & slowly poked my head in to the bathroom. What did I find? I found Baxter running around in the empty bath! Then I wondered, why was he doing this? Then I figured he was deliberately making this noise so we would wake up & then feed him. Boy, that's smart. I trained him to shake hands/paws! But had to bribe him with food otherwise no way. He really loved his food. Breakfast , lunch & dinner. As soon as he appeared by the front door you knew straight away it was lunch time or dinner. I swear he had a clock in his stomach. Almost to the minute. Everybody used to comment "boy, he's a big cat". Not fat but big. 7 kg (15lb) in his prime! Everbody loved Baxter. He was soooo "cool". Good with strangers. Never angry or aggressive. Though, I never knew that they were called Tux's. Sadly, after 17yrs he recently passed. Sure loved that cat!

All her markings were symmetrical She had aqua green eyes with a darker aqua around the iris of her eyes. Even the vet would comment how beautiful she was. Smart as a whip, but very trainable. And she was the first one to explore out of the litter and dove into the mother cat’s food bowl. She was the alpha cat but loved me. I have a Facebook page called Xavier Crayola the Cat in his honor where there are many pictures of how beautiful he was. He even had a marshmallow tail and a mustache.

Smart, loving, talker, and very smart about traffic. He never crosses the road, or get close to it. Gives me those sweet cat kisses. LOVE him more than anything.

He was so smart too. He taught me to hold hands/paw with him. I have never felt so loved by an animal like I did with him. He passed away 6 yrs ago & sometimes it still hurts like it was yesterday. I have two beautiful tuxedo cats, I can easily tell them apart because one has longer hair than the other (and is naturally smaller). I've always loved the tuxedo pattern in general because I just think black and white go so well together. I often wear black and white clothes together myself.
The most surprising fact about them in this video was that tuxedo cats are not adopted very often. I did not know that people were superstitious of tuxedo cats as well as black cats.

But I'm blessed with 2, now, unless the new owners make everyone at my complex get rid of our pets. I guess now I'm grateful for the trauma life's thrown at me as I should be able to get an emotional support license and be able to keep one. I'm praying for you. I adopted a tuxedo cat from a rescue house I volunteer at, his name is literally “Tux” and we’ll call him “Tuxie” as a nickname. He is 10 years old but I think he’s aged wonderfully. He also has FIV, a cauliflower ear, and missing some teeth, but he is one of the most beautiful cats I have ever laid eyes on. He’s just so big and FLUFFY. Needless to say he is the love of my life. Every single night without fail he comes to my bed and lays next to me like a heated and weighted fluffy pillow. I love him so much

Having had two male Tuxedo cats over the years I can add one other fact. They tend to be more caring about other cats and their human companions than other cats. The ones I had loved to groom other cats and humans more and one, BP would cover other cat's poo of they left it uncovered in the litter box.

Interesting fact about the reason calicoes or tortoiseshells are almost always female: it’s essentially the same reason that most ginger tabbies are male (80%) and only about 20% of gingers are female.
In cats, the gene that determines their color only resides on the X chromosome. And the red/ginger color gene is a recessive gene. So if a male carries the red color gene on his one and only X chromosome, of course he will be a ginger cat. However, as females have two X chromosomes, if she happens to carry the red color gene on one of her X chromosomes, the color will most likely be overridden by the color gene that resides on her other X chromosome. Again, this is why most ginger tabbies are male. For a female to be a ginger, then both of her parents also have to be ginger, or her father would have to be a ginger and her mother would have to be a calico or tortoiseshell. See below…
When a female carries the red color gene on one of her X chromosomes, she will sometimes show up as a calico or tortoiseshell. This explains why those cats are almost always female. A male calico can happen, but it’s extremely rare and they’re born sterile.
This is also why it’s not uncommon for a calico or tortie to give birth to a ginger kitten.

I had 2 tuxedo feral cats living in my backyard. We would feed and built a house, complete with an electrical heating pad. They were father and son. Although the city had them neutered and were given their shots, they were both very wild and would never get near anyone. Finally the father died of old age and we buried him in the backyard. That very day, the son moved in with us. He is 100 % socailized & his behaviour is perfect. (no accidents, no aggression or bad habits). By this time the cat was about 11 yrs. old. We were shocked at how socail he is, especially considering his advanced age. It was as if he had been taking notes all along. Maybe because of peer pressure he was "acting" wild? Because he has a white fluffy tale we call him "White Feather"

We have a tuxie named Sparky and he is rambunctious, naughty and outrageously smart and it always gets him into trouble lol!!! He almost killed himself climbing through rafters in the basement, shredded his side open and fell through the ceiling. We thought we were going to lose him and he did a lot of heavy breathing the moment he went outside in the heat for any length of time for about a year. We really had to watch him..
And NO MORE BASEMENT!!!! He never sleeps it seems. He's an indoor kitty that can catch snakes, birds, ground moles and mice STILL! He caught a bunny rabbit last spring and stuck him in the bathtub so it couldn't get away. YES, they are ridiculously smart!!!!

Among my rescue cats are 5 tuxedos...Puck, McCoy, Dot, Pufnstuf, and Adric. We rescued McCoy when she was pregnant, Dot, Pufnstuf, and Adric are her babies. We had rescued several other pregnant cats, but none of their kittens were tuxedos. We were amazed at how quickly Dot's kittens developed compared to other litters we had seen. They were only a couple days old, and they were trying to climb out of the low-sided tote we had used to make them a bed. They were so much stronger than other kittens we'd had, were walking and running around much earlier, used the litter box earlier, even weened themselves earlier.
We were able to find rescues quite early for the other cats and their kittens. But we weren't able to find a rescue that could take Dot and her kittens. By the time a rescue contacted us to let us know that they could take them, they had been with us for almost a year. As far as they (and we) were concerned, by that point, this was their home. They were also very closely bonded with each other, and I knew that if they went to a rescue, the chances were that they would all be adopted separately. We couldn't do that to them, and by that time they were our cats and we were in love with them. Six years later, I absolutely know we made the right decision...I can't imagine them not being part of our family. 😻😻

I have a tuxedo cat. I adopted him on Valentine's Day 2016 from the local animal shelter. He was abandoned by his previous owner as a kitten, his sibling got adopted but not him. When I got him, he was 3 years old. He turned 4 years old, during summer that same year. His name is Spot. I was going to change it at first, but when I saw the little black dots on his little white toesies? I was like, "Nope! That name suits him to a T!" :) He's SO precious. He is 10 now. AND spoiled rotten. LoL He always makes my bad days turn into good days. :)
