Thank you for keeping this beautiful music alive.
Enrico Tomasso was taught by Louis Armstrong as nipper , Louis must be proud looking down now , note for note perfect with commitment & tone , his finest ambassador , Louis lives on , thanks , magnificent band & singer .
The Tune that changed music forever, thank you all WOW
That trumpet player on the right comes real close to the Louis Armstrong sound and technique on West end Blues. Great band and musicians! Band sounds real authentic [ the sax section using authentic vibrato of the era rather than just playing the notes] as does the vocalist, dressed for the era and playing the part as well as singing in the correct style in fine voice...
I agree with an earlier comment that stated the trumpet brings the power and feel to Louis's lines from the 1928 recording. Spot on.
I never thought it possible. Beautiful!
what a great way to while away 25 minutes, my third visit, wont be my last. Thanks guys.
that trumpet 🎺 play Louis' famous intro is amazing...
Enrico Tomasso ....in spite of his name he's British (surely of Italian descent)
There is a famous picture of Enrico meeting Louis, when E. was a child. He's awesome. The singer, however....always the weak link in trad Jazz bands.
Eternal and unforgettable moment, that's too beautifull AND SAME COMMENTS AS SLEEPLESINSALE...As french and uncultured in english language, I use same comments as other subscribers... MANY THANKS FOR UPLOAD AND GRATULATIONS TO ALL MUSICIANS. Jo Luttringer, France
Grazie per questo momento magnifico video.
Thank you
Simply wonderful ______ makes you glad to be alive
The combination of tuba and banjo really makes 'Can't Get to Heaven That Way' really catchy and fun.
Tremendous!I have never heard any lyrics to this tune until now-Even at my advanced age there are still surprises in store!
I love Mr. Nichols's work.....
Wowwww!!! I LOVE this!!!!!!!!
Beatifull blues and song
Great music, great musicians, great comedy. It all amounts to a great show. "Well done fellers"
what an amazing band. The trumpeters captured the essence of Dixieland. Wonderful female voice.
A bit later than Diexieland (late 1910s/early-mid 1920s) -- I would say more late 1920s/early 1930s. But very good indeed.
Pure Gild
Eternal and unforgettable moment.
A great performance of a great classic!
You guys are a gale of fresh air. Thanks.

Beauty band, Beauty singer and fantastic trumpet player.
Absolutly wonderful!
Thanks Barrie - a memorable event, never to be seen again following the sad passing of Keith Nichols due to a covid infection caught while in hospital for s prostate operation.
"Sinigin' the Blues," great job guys. Love the little Eddie Lang tag. 👍🏻
Great post !!
Thank you for sharing.
Just fantastic!
Charming music and charming lady~
There are actually five songs here: "West End Blues" (Louis Armstrong, 1928); "You Can't Get to Heaven That Way" (Noble Sissle, 1930), "You Turned the Tables on Me" (Benny Goodman, 1936), "Singing the Blues" (Bix Beiderbecke and Frank Trumbauer, 1927), and :Bashful Baby" (Been Pollack with Goodman and Jack Teagarden, 1929). A couple of mistakes: Bill Challis was the original arranger on "Singing the Blues" and he based the opening sax ensemble on Frank Trumbauer's solo from the original record in 1927. And the vocal on Ben Pollack's 1929 record of "Bashful Baby" was by Harold "Scrappy" Lambert, not Pollack himself.
Rightly a King Oliver composition of 1928
How good are these guys!
ça c'est du Jazz !!!!!
Blues from my head to my shoes so blue today
I've got a mean evil feelin', And I'm full of gin
I’ve going to the West End and there's where troubles will begin
My man, my man, low-down mean hound
In town with my best friend running around
Soon the undertaker man gonna knock upon his door
Folks in West End, folks in West End,they gonna see some shootin'
Like they've never seen before
my man and my best friend ain’t go the West End no more 🎺🎺🎺
Many thanks for the words of West End Blues. I had no idea of the sad story.

A great band and singer so well recorded - The balance is spot on
The West End is a part of New Orleans on the shore of Lake Pontchartrain.

I agree - this concert was something special - Only beaten by Keith Nichol's festival orchestra at the 2012 Keswick Jazz Festival. Impeccable research lies behind all of these performances.
and it makes my soul fly to heaven. Give me Jazz or give me death
jazzfan1940 yes sir you have got something there that you can put in your satchel and take to the train station
vive les papys du jazz !
very good ! vrlo dobra plesna glazba !
Belissimo !
good as it use to be
You turned the tables on me
And now I'm falling for you
You turned the tables on me
I can't believe that it's true
I always thought when you brought
The lovely present you bought
Why hadn't you brought me more?
But now if you'd come I'd welcome anything
From the five and ten cent store
You used to call me the top
You put me up on a throne
You let me fall with a drop
And now I'm out on my own
But after thinking it over and over
I got what was coming to me
Just like the sting of a bee
You turned the tables on me
Yeah! :D
muy bueno..
Wonderful! not least the Bix Beiderbecke.
❤
Wow, that version of Bashful Baby is better than the record!
Bravo
song starts at 1:40
Squarerig where have you been lots of vocal to this tune
Amazing musicians and great singer. What will happen when the current musicians pass away? Are their any young musicians outvtherecto take their place?
I'm very pleased to say that London is currently blessed with many new jazz musicians, many of them straight out of the music colleges. Swing dance is a "new" craze with the London students.

Как прекрасно, что эту бессмертную музыку есть кому сохранять и передавать последующим поколениям. При этом улучшая и совершенствуя её звучание.
LOUIS ARMSTRONG "THE GREATEST"
i to jest jazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :-) exelent
Has anybody Lyrics of that great Noble Sissle's song?
Joe "KIng" Oliver!!
The piano guy sounds a bit like an anthropologist making amusing(not) comments about the natives. But the horns at the end of West End Blues were brilliant, sheet music notwithstanding.
Good stuff! Piano player has a meter problem.
Це невмируча сторінка історії класичного джазу - зріз американської культури минулого століття. Неперевершено!!!
Anatoly Samoshkin
Thank you for your comment - the English translation is:
This is a non-stop page of the history of classical jazz - a cut of American culture of the last century. Marvelous!!!
Thank you for the translation. I deliberately wrote a comment in Ukrainian to know that there are connoisseurs of classical jazz in Ukraine.
When we receive the credit looong overdue us then the USA will be great. Pedestrian. Bessie Smith was better. Museum music.
What?
