I needed a jazz concert this evening - and I got it. First class in every respect. I have seen some of the players in other groups and some for the first time here. I thank all of you for providing such an excellent performance.
I got my first album of Joe Oliver's band in the mid-60's. One had to learn to listen through the poor sound quality due to the recording techniques of the 1920s. If you could do that, the reasons for Oliver's impact became clear.
Respect to Tuba Skinny, they earned a spotlight and work as hard as anyone, but there are many other amazing trad and beyond musicians and bands busking on Royal and playing night after night in the Frenchmen St clubs.
This is the happiest music I've ever listened to. What a treat.
What a band! Sensational. Thanks very much to all concerned for sharing this wonderful concert with us.
Uhhh! I'm completely knocked out by this! What tunes, what a sound and what a band! Long live King Oliver and his music!
