I wish they would have slapped this and some other song onto Mesopotamia so it would properly be remembered as their third album instead of an “EP”
I absolutely agree! It would have such a good era especially if David Byrne gave it more focus as producer.
Big Bird and Queen of Las Vegas are the other two Mesopotamia outtakes which would have made it a full album with Adios Desconosida. The Queen of Las Vegas outtake has been released and is quite different than the Whammy recording. It’s on the anthology and here on TH-cam. I imagine Big Bird would have been recorded for Mesopotamia basically how they played it live in 1982 shows, which isn’t too far off from the Whammy recording, so I don’t think Big Bird was totally reworked like Queen of Las Vegas was.

Unfortunately, they were pretty much forced by their manager to put it out prematurely as a six-song EP. Kate has said the band didn't even consider it finished.
@@vincefarin7273 "Butterbean" was also going to be included, so that would have brought it up to a full ten-track album.

Not great. Too much Talking Heads, which is to say, David Byrne, not enough B52s.
