@Martin Todd You should know that the more time passes the less of a chance they find someone, they spent 40 years and countless millions on finding this guy, even on the chance they find him after 40 years, when he is like 60-70 maybe even dead? what's the point outside of their reputation? He never hurt anyone, bomb was probably fake just to threaten and get the money and he didn't get a large sum of money. There are quite a large amount of small crimes that don't even get investigated just because it is not worth the effort. This guy was assumed to be dangerous so that is probably the only legitimate reason to spend a few years on this case, at least that's how i see it. Your taxed money goes to this too you know, i don't see how you are completely okay with them spending 40 years on it. I don't see how you can compare large criminal operations like smuggling that usually if investigated can lead to a big fish and get whole criminal organization arrested to a guy that was alone on a plane with a fake bomb and never hurt anyone and just took a small amount of money considering how much he could've taken and there is probably a reason for it, he planned everything. If you spend 5-20 years and never encounter him again in a similar situation, do you think he'll wait until he's 60 to pull something like this again? So if he isn't going to do any more crimes and no one died or even got hurt it is valueless to me and spending that much money on such a case is dumb. I understand that criminal investigations aren't about profit but there's a time where it becomes a literal waste of manpower and money on a valueless case.
@Martin Todd They didn't even know anything from what i understood watching this video, do you really think that anyone notified them about the bomb? they were probably told that there were some issues with landing but nothing serious. He basically wrote it on a piece of paper and gave it to stewardess and she just notified the pilot and co pilot and the rest of the staff. They were in the air a bit longer and landed and everyone except staff was let go and money was delivered. You are really dumb to question my integrity based on your assumptions on what happened. If people are notified on a plane it would cause chaos, neither the blackmailer with the bomb nor staff would want to notify the crew about it, this is not like the movies you watch on TV when they are told every single time.
After all the true crime documentaries I watched recently, this was refreshing. Cooper didn't hurt anyone, was polite and clever, got the money and disappeared. What a Chad!
Can I just say, The Zodiac Killer is a mastermind, humanity spent 51 years figuring out a code, finally cracked it, then found out it was completely useless towards the investigation.
He never jumped out of the plane. He attached the two parachutes to the money and tossed it out, he was interested in the thrill, not the money. He then hid in the wheel compartment since he had them remain partially deployed as one of his stipulations, making hiding in there safer and roomier. When the plane touched down and the authorities rushed in to sweep the cabin, he casually strolled away. While they were focused on searching for him where they believed he jumped, he was quite literally, under their noses.
@@InsidiousClouds It makes the most sense to me. Think about it, why would he have all the crew lock themselves in the cockpit if he was just going to jump out of the plane? Kind of weird that he didn't want them to see what he did.

Thank you for saying Dan Cooper! I can’t believe how many “news organizations” still call him D.B Cooper. 2 things I find interesting is that he was surprisingly polite and he had a white shirt with a tie and BYU tie tack. I think Dan Cooper probably was Mormon or at least raised in the LDS church.
Here's my instantly concocted Cooper hypothesis: Cooper was a Canadian who had military and flight experience, and maybe some knowledge of explosives. After the plane took off for Mexico, Cooper herded the remaining crew into the cockpit and closed the door, leaving him alone in the cabin. He filled two of the four supplied parachute packs with dead weight scavenged from around the plane, and added a packet of the ransom money to each one. Shortly after 8 pm he opened the exterior door and shoved the two weighted packs out, which resulted in the plane momentarily dipping forward. He then went to a predetermined spot (perhaps within the luggage storage area, or perhaps near one set of landing gear) and waited for the plane to land. Naturally, he left the exterior door open to add to the illusion that he'd actually jumped. The plane landed, and as it was night-time, illumination beneath the plane was quite dim. Cooper then exited through one of the opened landing gear bays and quietly made his way into the night, never to be found by authorities. And seeing as this hypothesis was instantly concocted, it means of course that I haven't researched the configuration of a 727-100 to see if it's possible to hide in the luggage storage area or to exit through the landing gear bay. But I'll leave that to the experts. And if anybody wants to make a movie based on my hypothesis, the idea is free for you to use.
fun fact, a bottle of whiskey (provided it was full) is a pretty solid tool for survival, in a survival situation, drinking could drop your stress, the alcohol can be used to clean wounds(not super well but better than nothing) and the bottle can act as either a water container, or can be shattered for the glass to make tools, albeit small and brittle, but once again better than nothing
It's interesting to me that Cooper is so popular, it's almost like he's seen in a good light despite the crime. I wonder if it's because no one was hurt in his plan?
Exactly that. I’m all for people who can beat the system and be so clever to pull of a heist like this and not harm anyone or endanger anyone while doing so

I am ALWAYS interested in this topic! My uncle was on the suspect list once- they never interviewed him before taking him off the list because he was too well known at the departing airport. I think that they keep missing a category of suspects: they keep looking at people with enough jumps to survive (one of the reasons my uncle was on the list in the first place) but what about the people who only had enough experience to THINK they could make it and survive?
Maybe they should say “fair play we are not after you anymore and come out of hiding so we can see who it was” then award him hide and seek world champion.
He has been found. He started one of the most popular film reviewing websites in history, he admitted when making it. It's in the name, IMDB (took this comment from another comment on lemminos video about it, credit to them)
Fun fact: the passengers had no idea the plane was hijacked. They didn’t realize that they had been within meters from a bomb until the FBI delayed their trip even longer by interviewing every single passenger on the flight.
No reason to create panic, calm hostages are the best hostages. Also there is a possibility that the bomb was fake not just because he wasn't a terrorist, he didn't want to kill anyone or had any political motives, he was just a theif. But also if he was caught (highly possible) a fake bomb would do a world of difference in court. If anyone on the plane wanted to be a hero, it would be all over.
@@Vollification Indeed. I always wondered if the briefcase in fact had a false bottom where the upper side was a cleverly constructed thin fake bomb layer which covered a folded parachute suit, boots, helmet gloves and goggles. It’s highly unlikely that he jumped in a suit and trench coat in the pitch-black night, in the rain, with a 172 mph, 15 °F (−9 °C) wind in his face at 10,000 feet (3,000 m) in November over Washington state.
@@Legionmint7091 And maybe even some stuff to help with suvival and navigation. Even if he planned everything to detail with a hidden getaway car or a hideout, parachuting in the middle of the night, in unfavorable weather isn't easy (even if he had military training). Dude's lucky he didn't hit a tree. And that was one of the questions "How did he survive in the wild?" This answers it, the bomb was just a prop. Colour some rolls red, attach some wires and stuff and it will look like what any layman assumes a bomb looks like (and won't take any chances with). The stuff you described would serve to simulate proper weight.
@@Vollification I agree. The FBI figured that he chose the four-day weekend so that he had time to get back to his regular job thus not rising suspicion from family and coworkers. They never found anyone who was absent from work who fit the profile. However, if he was Canadian I’m not so sure the feds had full insight. Moreover, the hijacking was meticulously planned in any other aspect so there’s nothing that says that he didn’t go off grid well before the hijacking, or even faked his own death. He doesn’t seem to have committed major crimes before this event, since no one recognized him from the facial composite, and he seem to have laid low after that as well. Which most likely means he either died on impact out in the wilderness, or that he survived and left the US, and lived out his life in anonymity in some other country. Regardless, I find Dan Cooper’s gentleman crime quite fascinating.
@@Legionmint7091 I think if he died out in the woods someone would have found him or say leftovers from the parachute or similar. My guess he stashed some of the loot out in the wild "just in case" he was found out and had to bolt. The rest likely went into a "number account" in Bermuda or Cayman Islands, he obviously never spent any and back in those days tax-havens never asked any questions. I like to belive in a happy ending :)
My parents lived in Reno, NV at the time and went to the airport where that plane landed. They said sparks were flying from the rear ramp that had been lowered in the air for D.B. Cooper to escape the aircraft.
When he said "Negotiable" he means that in American currency, if you are to demand a ransom you want small, unmarked bills or smaller dollar amounts i.e. $20's NOT $100 because they can trace the serial numbers of larger dollar amounts. There would be too many serial numbers to trace that much money spent all over the country in small shops, and personal exchanges. I find it hard to believe that the agents especially at that time in history, could trace that money in so many places without a sophisticated computerized system like today? I believe they say things often to deter criminals to make them believe that they are more powerful than they are. Well, back then at least? So, if he was or was not Canadian - is still up in the air.
People who go to international schools tend to have an accent that sounds different from every other accent. Most people think we are American when they hear the accent, so he could have been from anywhere if he went to an international school
This is an awesome idea!!! I think this would have worked and why hasn’t someone done this in the past. Could have had a crew member go through as a passenger using that name and the rest of the crew could have been in on it!! This is the coolest idea I have ever heard!
Actually named my dog after him. The day we brought the puppy home, I was watching a documentary about this. That same night, my wife could not find the dog for a couple of long minutes in our house. Hidden between 2 pillows, he awaited discovery. I named him Cooper on the spot :))
It's Loki! Seriously, DB has been a personal hero. I appreciate that you've added some info unfamiliar to me. I always thought Cooper's fate was tied to Society's need to punish the Bad Guy. So we have him tied to real criminals & idiots who got themselves killed. I like to think of good ol' Dan lounging on the beach or chilling by a fireplace in a wintry wonderland. Thanks for the memories...
Its not the most detailed or in depth but its detailed enough and interesting topics with original sense of humour been subbed for years just watching him get better at storytelling but i watch phd lectures like on range of different topics . comparing a TH-cam channel too school is apples and oranges as for college can be useful for a lot of people who are certain of fields they want to be in and having accurate assessment of risk vs reward which many on both sides of education make but self teaching takes a good amount of self discipline that many just don't have and college is way more flexible than highschool by a lot and helps people keep accountable too there long term goals
i’d hope they’d be smart enough to have one person with a parachute on go to the door of the plane and toss the bomb out (the parachute is in case they are sucked out of the plane in the process)
@@bushthekid3077 Not if he'd sellotaped it down. Then they wouldn't be able to move it. Then what would they do? (yeah you're right i didnt think about getting rid of the bomb)
Pete Cowley well, i guess they could always carry a person who does not have a parachute while they are gliding down, very risky but it’s been done before successfully
Brian Gatti it does make sense but that wasn’t my entire point, even still it would be safe to have a parachute on while throwing the bomb out if possible, there’s always that possibility of falling out
I feel it’s very possible that he didn’t jump from the door but instead opened the door and threw out one parachute, then hid in the cargo area of the plane and jumped from there through the open landing gear space
Dude whut, I was thinking he might be Belgian since we usually have the average american sounding accent when talking English and then he drops the fact that Dan Cooper is a Belgian comic book.. SO PROUD TO BE BELGIAN RN!! 🇧🇪🇧🇪🇧🇪
1:26 Hm interesting. So they'll pack a box of anything you love? Very tempting I hope they're still around in the future so I can consider testing it out. For now I'm sadly to young.🧐
I have a feeling he did not jumped, he just made the airplane look like something fallen, then he hid, and somehow getting out after it landed, when no-one was expecting
@@jordanhass4283 good point, the only possible explanation I can came here and is logical is that he might've gotten paranoid that FBI knew about him, and just tried to mask it as he died, by throwing the money. The best way to deceive a detective is just to do illogical things
@@352squad4 real talk tho maybe he is and he's smart enough and it would be very unexpected that someone with conspiracys about someone could actually be that criminal
"D.B. Cooper" actually exited the passenger jet via a ramped stairway that lowered *beneath* the tail, not from the side of the aircraft. This feature was unique to this particular type of passenger jet, and he was not seen by any of the pilots of the trailing fighter jets because the plane was flying through heavy rain. I don't know where this detail about a "side door" originated..🙄🤔🤔
It's also a T-tail type aircraft that has its engines mounted at the rear, not on the wings. I kept getting annoyed by the incorrect plane model used in the animations.
@@MLennholm I think that the show's producers assumed that because this occurred decades and decades ago that most people wouldn't really care all that much about the details. We lived through those events, so for us getting it right is just a tad bit more important..😉😉

And if anybody wants to make a movie based on my hypothesis, the idea is free for you to use.

fun fact, a bottle of whiskey (provided it was full) is a pretty solid tool for survival,
in a survival situation, drinking could drop your stress, the alcohol can be used to clean wounds(not super well but better than nothing) and the bottle can act as either a water container, or can be shattered for the glass to make tools, albeit small and brittle, but once again better than nothing

Imagine D. B. Cooper is actually a time traveler and he needed that specific calculation to go back to his time and sell those money for higher prices
My parents lived in Reno, NV at the time and went to the airport where that plane landed. They said sparks were flying from the rear ramp that had been lowered in the air for D.B. Cooper to escape the aircraft.

This is the sickest game of hide and seek I have ever had the pleasure of hearing about
There is video of Pablo Escobar.
D.B. Cooper certainly was worth the money he asked for. He brought so much entertainment to the world. Thanks D.B.
