In what was once a Lexus hallmark, they've ceded powertrain polish to Acura. The J-Series V6 and 10AT is a sublime powertrain. The old Lexus RX was unquestioned for its hushed environment, impeccable build quality, and just an overall smoothness while going down the road. Based on how I saw it, it’s not comparing the vehicles themselves but rather what the average luxury car buyer is shopping for. Since these two are top sellers it’s very likely buyers will test both out or decide between one of these.
You don’t care about handling until you have to swerve out of the way on the freeway from someone who cuts you off. I almost rolled my 2016 Honda Pilot when I had to avoid a car and did the same maneuver in my 2022 MDX years later and didn’t almost lose control like the Pilot. That’s the difference in suspension. You are wrong.
Lexus is disappointing. Barely any different from the Highlander. See no point buying Lexus over Toyota, when they are basically identical. At least Acura tried to differentiate from Honda.
You cannot even compare the Rx against the MDX. 4cyl turbo versus 6cyl natural aspirated. SH-Awd versus AWD on the lexus? Very different drive train, suspension as well as power output to the weight characteristics of each car. I am sure sure the MDX is a much heavier approximate weight about 4600 lbs. The 4cyl turbo is a noisy engine in comparison to the natural aspirated 6cyl. Perhaps the only category they cN be comparable is that they would be considered a luxury car, with some dependability being reflected from each brand. Price wise a loaded MDX is probably comparable to a loaded RX.
I’m digging both but Lexus lost when Toyota decided to go with turbo-ed 4 cylinders instead of a v6 on some of their models. Lexus should have opted for a v6. Turbos are fun but problematic. More moving parts more problems. Not to mention you have to use higher octane fuel. So if you do better on mpg, you loose your savings buying the better quality fuel. I know because we drive turbo-ed 4 cylinder, it’s not a bad ride, but NA vehicles are better quality in the long run.
That’s easy Ones a REAL luxury car with REAL luxury car underpinnings, a bespoke architecture, and a properly luxurious interior and plenty of flagship features. That’s the MDX. Lexus doesn't deserve that reliability score with these unproven drivetrains. I'm toyota/lexus biased, but I'm realistic, and these new drivetrains aren't doing them any favors.
The RX cargo space is abysmal, even for a two-row, and the driving experience is also so disconnected. The Acura is better looking, drives better, has more space (if you need it), and a far superior drivetrain.
Acura, you can use regular gas for sure. I'm not sure about Lexus. Although Lexus are nice, reliable vehicles, they are usually ugly and don't handle as well as Acura. Also, you can definitely see toyota in they looks. Acura is also reliable, and you can barely see honda in they looks so my choice was easy.

A surprisingly large percentage of people buy Lexus because it is a fancy Toyota
You haven’t owned a Lexus if you think they are the same. Toyotas are cheap plastic just like Tesla.
70 grand is crazy
Acura all the way ❤
I really hope Lexus puts the new iForce Max engine in the RX
You forgot to add the towing capacity on both for another point.
The better vehicle is the one your wife wants.
You nailed it. My wife liked the RX-500h and that’s what she got. 😂
@@prtube1 Same reason. 500h as well 😂
I’m digging both but Lexus lost when Toyota decided to go with turbo-ed 4 cylinders instead of a v6 on some of their models.
That’s easy
Ones a REAL luxury car with REAL luxury car underpinnings, a bespoke architecture, and a properly luxurious interior and plenty of flagship features. That’s the MDX. The MDX is no longer a gussies up pilot
The other one though… is not a luxury car. It’s just a gussied up Camry on stilts that’s mediocre in just about every way you can think of. That’s the Lexus
If you want a Lexus, get a TX, GX, or LX, between the RX and MDX, MDX is superior in every way
Both are low spec does it matter which one Both are slowBBBUT u get your money back with the Lexus @ trade eND... so for me it the Lexus ps :: like I said before just pick up NX 350 like u said just rav4 bro and I am cool with that
@@jessiewright1975 this is a lie, both have great resale value, also I don’t want the Lexus with its ugly exterior and 4-cylinder engine, Acura is better in every way, Acura might be more reliable now too cuz the Lexus went from a N/A V6 to a turbocharged 4-cylinder while Acura still uses their J35 N/A V6
@@CarGeek360 ok but my IS 200t had no problem same 4 turbo with just few upgrades and exterior of MDX is soap box nobody is check out u Acura in park lot cause have no design language or at night just another SUV with same design of Hyundai and kia @ that price point if need to stand OUT.
@@jessiewright1975 a 4-cylinder is acceptable in the IS because it’s a small car, also the MDX has a better exterior/interior than the RX
The Lexus competitor really is the TX. Acura doesn't really have an 'in-between' of the RDX and MDX like the RX is between the NX and TX
@@chibbyylol True. But even the TX is a small step up in size vs. the MDX. There’s no perfect 1:1 competitor.
@@icculus Depends on which metric for 'size'. TX does have ~26 more total cubic feet with seats folded down than the MDX's 71
@@chibbyylol By size I mean passenger and cargo volume. The TX is a physically larger car.
Naveen might be burning his a$$ on coals after watching this comparison 😂😂😂😂😂
The MDX is superior pal. Not your fancy Camry on stilts
I don't know why he's even in the conversation he drives a Kia.. 🤣🤣.. I would remain silent if I was him..😷
The RX is nice but it’s ugly and a 4-cylinder, MDX is better (if you want a Lexus, get a TX, GX, or LX)
@@charlesjackson1700I own a Toyota v6 just so you know 😂
@@naveenthemachine(XSE) 😂I thought I saw or read you traded it for a Kia ?
You had me at “naturally aspirated V6”
It's a Honda Engine, that's what matters 😎
Why you didn’t put the top trim RX…. 500h is more close to price point.
I heard that the lexus requires PREMIUM gas. Not sure on the Acura. Why do you guys not talk about that?
Acura, you can use regular gas for sure. I'm not sure about Lexus. Although Lexus are nice, reliable vehicles, they are usually ugly and don't handle as well as Acura. Also, you can definitely see toyota in they looks. Acura is also reliable, and you can barely see honda in they looks so my choice was easy.
Hybrid is the way to gooooo
there is a refreshed rivian r1t and r1s
LEXUS ALL THE WAY.. known reliability & Resale
4 cyl Turbo more torque than Acura PLUS Lexus makes their own Turbos 🎉
ACURA ❤
MDX all the way
I'd take the MDX, if just for the fact that it still has a naturally aspirated V6. It has the same engine as my 2013 Acura TL which has been bullet-proof for 90,000 miles so far.
Almost 70k for a turbo 4 popper. You’d have to have a complete lack of knowledge of cars to make such a purchase decision.
Lexus is 10 slots above the industry average reliability, it’s Subaru that’s 11 slots above the industry average reliability
And Acura is 7 slots above the industry average reliability, it’s dodge that’s 8 slots above the industry average reliability
Lexus is King 👑 even in a million years from now Acura could never catch up to Lexus level, as in every aspect. #LexusisKing
I'll stick with the MDX
the MDS looks sexy!
MDX is better-looking, period.
Lexus better, better fuel economy, hybrid, better resail value
Love my 500h f
By 2030, auto makers / banks will have to offer 10 year vehicle loans.
Lexus for longevity and value
MDX looks way better
Hybrid win so both lose.
Nah, this is not it. Cx70 is the way to go..
RX is more comparable to the RDX. Not the MDX.
Lexus for mě.
Lexus RX over Acura MDX.
Acura RDX over Lexus NX.
