Yes, low cog vehicles are better. All the snowflakes driving their nuttly lifted trucks get nervous due to the cabin tilt from their high cog vehicles, and from disconnecting their sway bars - what did they think would happen ?
Calling bs on doing this trail in a tercel, you may have driven up from the telluride side to the waterfall, that is not the 4x4 trail you dud not drive over the stairs in a tercel without serious body damage
Dad took me, my brother and mom down this trail for a family jaunt about 15 years ago in an old 1970's jeep. He didnt tell us what to expect until we got there and handled the trail like an old pro. Love you dad
@@noname-zg8lh "an old 1970s Jeep". Your comment would probably be better as a response to a different post bro. Not sure what the relevance of it is here.
Just did this trail a few weeks ago in my XJ Cherokee (was first person there, same day the Wrangler rolled). The trail isn’t that tough... BUT no video can convey the uncomfortable feeling of being off-camber mere feet away from a cliff. I’ve knocked it off the list, but I don’t need to do it again. Poughkeepsie Gulch was far away my favorite trail in the region.
I have to say, watching you wheel with live audio, and quiet toyota engines, was very nice. Its amazing to be in a place like you are, and sometimes loud exhaust gets old real fast, especially on an overland trip.
Being from this part of Colorado (and even having gone to middle school in Telluride) it was interesting that I was able to guess where these guys were from. After the first few minutes of the video, I was like, "I bet they're totally from California." and I finally caught a glimpse of a license plate, and yup, Cali. They're totally cool and chill guys, and I wouldn't hesitate to hang out with them, but it's interesting how "outdoorsy" people are different from region to region. It's like they're their own type of rugged, which is like, kind of cleaner? More stylish? More with it? All your clothes looked laundered and wrinkle free. Even the hoodies. And your trucks looked super nice too. Maybe "California Rugged"? And it's really different from what I'm used to which I guess is "Colorado Rugged". Ha ha. Glad you guys enjoyed your visit to the San Juans, and thanks for the great video!
@@ADDvanced ha ha, or at least, very image-conscious, which does take money to achieve. Even the meals they eat. Shrimp? That looks better than what I usually eat at home 🤣 Don't get me wrong, it looks delicious. And if I were with them and they handed me a plate, I'd be so grateful and impressed. But when I'm out car camping, it's like, a can of Ranch Style Beans opened and placed on a rock next to the fire using a pair of pliers eaten with a pack of store tortillas, or if I have a Coleman with me, it's Spam and potatoes and a beer, ha ha.
From Idaho. I know exactly what you mean. You can tell the locals rigs apart from the transplants. These guys trucks are goals but I'm not rich. I hate how you never see older 4runners and hardly any 2nd gen Tacomas yet FJ cruisers are here because they're rare and desirable. Sick builds, but I want to see someone wheel in a secondhand 2nd gen taco SR5 like what I have.
@@jgm113i was just in this area a week or so ago and saw a lot of older 4runners and land cruisers in silverton. makes me want one so bad but even those are selling for ridiculous prices these days
Ha! Amen. That is all I could think of while watching this. I hunt 561 in CO and there are plenty of goofy roads with sharp turns, steep drops, and high vistas. These fellas were pretty conservative and hugging sides. Badass view on this fun road however!
I hunt with my camera, flowers and butterflies. I was drawn to this video to verify how as an inexperienced driver I can access the alpine habitat. If you want to understand how this is analogous to hunting, read Hemingways "Green Hills of Africa" where the rifle is just his excuse to get out into nature and observe; it's not about pulling the trigger. I just did black bear a few days ago. It poured down rain right as we got to the steps. That made it exceptionally scary! But... the whole crew took it slow, and spotted each other down. I have to say... this trail is a one and done for me. I'm glad I went and did it, but I definitely don't plan to return! Lol
13:48 I don’t ever want to hear you say that phrase again. When overlanding, you should never forget your fishing pole🤣. Just got back last night from Monache with my 16 yr old daughter, and it got down to 18🥶. Great video Brother!! Colorado Native here. I sure do miss Gods country Colorado. Peace.
Beautiful scenery. Scary as hell though. When camping in the cold make sure to bring a nice sleeping pad with a high r-value to help some of the loss of heat due to conduction. It's a game changer. Great video.
Definitely cool video! I drove all the way out there from Florida back in July and did the passes. Black Bear was my favorite. I was alone and had the trail pretty much to myself. No spotter and it rained and sleeted coming down the steps. But I lived. Lol.
You should look into investing in a USMC sleeping system. The less layers you have on the warmer it gets. It's composed of 3 pieces (one sleeping bag for cold temperatures that your body will be making contact with, a warm weather sleeping bag that will wrap around the cold weather bag, and an outer shell that we call a cocoon that protects against wind and the elements that wraps on the outside of the two other bags). You'd have to buy it on ebay because they're military issue only and not available for sale to the civilian market.
Did this Pass after doing Mosquito Pass with my "99" Silverado Z-71 factory stock except for the 285 Destination MT's on it with cap on back. Fun times!
Been to Ouray many times. It's not just some town, that is Off Road Town USA except for maybe Moab. Also, hugging the right side down the steps and making the turn makes this trail more dangerous, not less. Should be lots of guys on the different yota forums that could've told you this. Great vid though and glad you experienced it.
Nice place dude! And so dangerous.... The sands on the track make slippery... I feel stop breath when I see the car on the hill... Thumbs up from Autotune Indonesia dude...

Awesome video guys! I'm an old dude but take me and my 2018 TRD OR AC Taco with you! Only my rear brakes work. It’s easy!”
great video, probably your best! You focused more on the rigs and the adeventure itself which is great. This footage should get you a show on Netflix... takes so much time to get the drone out.. fly it, record, bring it down, upload the video, edit etc. I live in colorado just bought a 4Runner and plan to take the family on this trail in the summer of 2021.
You guys were in my neck of the woods. Grew up in colorado. Some of the best camping, fishing, hunting and hiking in the whole US! Looks like you had a good time.
Black bear is one of the most beautiful trails. Sadly the family and I got to the trail too early and had to return to Ouray due to snow still on the pass.
