    I recently made these musk sticks and they are BRILLIANT !! They make excellent edible gifts and taste so much better than store bought musk sticks. These are now a firm family favourite.

    gluing gingerbread houses together with Musky royal icing. I've tried the traditional ones that came in a black and yellow bag, I didn't grow up eating it, so it was good to try it once. I most likely will buy some grape flavored. normal musk is too soapy for me...like how the air tastes like when you walk down the fabric softener aisle at the store. I'll try making some with malic acid and some fruit flavoring and making one thick roofing tile of it.

    Is there a difference between gold and silver gelatin leaves? Can I just use the elcheapo ones? Don't want to screw up this wonderful treat!
    An Aussie living in Texas and the kids and I are craving musk sticks and were very excited to find your recipe..... we have everything except the gelatin leaves.
    Have I mentioned we are excited to make this!!

    • @mrkitchentv
      @mrkitchentv  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HAAAA!! WOOO HOOOO!!!
      Ok, for musk sticks you can use any gelatine - even el cheapo powdered - allow 2gm powder per sheet if so. You won`t screw it up.
      Where in the US did you get the musk essence? I thought it was as rare as hens teeth there! I have even posted some to a legend in Canada to keep the musk dream alive!!
      *Note - if you do use powdered gelatine, ensure your wet ingredients attain a gross weigh of 150 gm (powdered will not require soaking - just stir it right in) to compensate for the liquid otherwise soaked into sheets. Top up with coloured water as required and proceed as normal. Cool?
      Once prepared, it will begin to stiffen from the gelatine. No rush, just don`t dilly dally and be prepared. If it becomes unmanageable pop it under a warm lamp and it`ll be right as rain again.
      Gold, silver, platinum represent strength. It`s relevant more to preparations like delicate jellied recipes. My recipes are designed around gold sheet strength as standard. Others use platinum and thats not better or worse, their recipes are slightly different to allow for the added strength. I`m sure a gelatine geek would argue otherwise but let`s keep it real.
      If you have any pics will you post them? Stick `em on my FB wall? (facebook.com/chef.andre.delaine)
      Good luck!!!

    One question when you put the powder gelatine in the cold water and when your done do you just pour the whole gelatine mixture

    • @mrkitchentv
      @mrkitchentv  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ethan Castro Correct. It won`t be as pretty as gelatine sheets and it will form clumps when you initially stir, but the very gentle heat while you stir will dissolve it nicely. Just don`t boil the mixture while doing so - reduction may affect the recipe. Good luck!

    Will corn syrup and powder gelatine will it work when making musk sticks

    • @mrkitchentv
      @mrkitchentv  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ethan Castro Good question mate.
      Powdered gelatine does work - just do not pre-soak it in water** See more details on this above in the video description before you proceed.
      As for using corn syrup - I see no reason for it not to work; both are inverted sugars. Be sure to use a light corn syrup to ensure a bright colour.

    • @georgiavictoria591

      In its current form? No due to gelatine. Next time I make it I will test a vegan option for you.
