How? Because it’s a different culture over here. Having the word American attached to one’s culture definitely is a diff experience. I was raised by my family but I still went to school in America which is where most of the indoctrination, socialization, shaping of perspective happens. For this to truly be a balanced debate we need to hear from someone not just “born” but actually raised somewhere in the Caribbean and raised in an African country as well as descendants of those places and direct blacks native to America.

Bean Pie 😂 R&B Hip Hop, Rap, Jazz, The Blues, Go Go, certain dances, AAVE - people immigrate to the US, assimilate in with African Americans and begin speaking AAVE but it’s still our culture & language. They’re just assimilating into African American culture and then saying it’s not a culture because they can assimilate into it but it is part of our culture. White people even take from AAVE and make it trendy in their circles but they are taking from it - it’s not their culture. We joke a lot. Our swag, clothing and hair trends. Our art and literature. Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison. James Baldwin. Josephine Baker. Our hundreds of years of struggle here - our strength. There were many slave revolts on US soil and the response was hangings, chopping peoples heads off and dismembering them. Also the US is much larger geographically than a lot of the small islands and we were outnumbered by whites in comparison - also the Caribbean had a larger number of African enslaved people. Much different playing field. Also the US was prime land because of its cooler temperatures something that white people did not want to give up. It was likely much harder to overthrow the whites here during slavery. There is no beef in the diaspora coming from the FBA side. Being black american is being yourself, that is who you are, we're a new people, we are an amalgamation, we have our own ethnic lineage and culture, just like everyone else, everyone tries to down play it and act like they don't know what it is, while trying to claim it as their own, just because they're family immigrated here and they grew up in it. It's erasure to not acknowledge that and act like you don't know what our culture is or consist of. We are the real representation of america, and even though we and carribeans shared the same boat, we have some similarities. However, it's not exact. If it was exactly the same, they would have come here and understood our plight. However, they didn't. Some had to come and live amongst us for years to understand, and even then, some still don't. As a Black Haitian Canadian(Born in NY, Family on all sides Haitian, grew-up in Canada) now living in the USA(The deep NC south) , I have no beef with Black Americans. I don't have time for beef, I have my own self interest(Family, Robotics, Engineering, Community Building & Entrepreneurship) and they have their own self interest, sometimes it aligns and we work together. I'm of the strong belief that pro-black doesn't equate to pro-Black Americans, pro-African or pro-Carribean, pro-Black European, pro-Black Canadian, pro-Black Asian it's actually working for the benefits of all by finding overlap between all those ideology. "You're taking American dollars..." No, they contributing Nigerian/Jamaican/ADOS manpower, intellect etc. its not charity, its quid pro quo... they pay taxes and earn that s**t "Meanwhile the people here are still suffering..." but ADOS can do the same thing they're doing and fund their community... and the reality is many immigrants DO contribute to their black communities. Caribbeans have worked with black folks for decades. Top Nigerian doctors work in black communities to improve medical care etc. "If they were to come and build with us..." I think different communities got different views of how to build, kinda like Malcolm and MLK. The immigrants feel like you gotta be more concerned about education... Good points raised..Immigrants work twice as much being taxed of which these taxes are paying for someone's rent in the projects or giving money as foodstamps plus monthly relief checks..It is a win-win situation. I am African of the igbo tribe and our ancestor ensured to pass down our history and in the modern world this are written down stories and in Nigeria we were taught our history both at school and in the family. Some history are essentially safeguarded in the community and passed down from generation to generation.

AA aren't the only ones that went through slavery the Caribbean went through it too. Outrageous statement about Caribbean, mainly Jamaicans being docile, where on earth did you find that in a book, no sensible person would make such a statement, your remark is just stupid. I have never read in any book or heard of any American going to the Caribbean/Jamaica to help/assist them in any rebellion/revolt against the British of which there were many.
When I heard them saying that I chuckled to my self cause I realized that they clearly had no clue what they were talking about. There were so many slave revolts going on up and down the Caribbean especially as a result of the Haitian revolution. Do they realize that more black people went to the Caribbean, Central and South America than the whole of the USA? Only a small number of enslaved people went to the USA. Also the Caribbean is not a monolith. Different islands or territories was controlled by different nations such as the Dutch, the French, the Spanish and the English so the Queen of England only had control over the English speaking islands and territories. The Congo from my understanding was controlled by Belgium and not England so when no one corrected the statement about the Queen and the Congo I was surprised. Finally, slavery was abolished in the English speaking Caribbean and Territories in 1834 many years before the USA so how did the enslaved in the USA help us gain freedom? Overall the discussion was interesting however it would have been nice to have a person that was born and raised from the Diaspora to speak on these topics since they would have been able to give a better more informed response. The Caribbean is not a monolith and is made up of over 20 island nations and territories with various languages, religions, races, cultures etc. The region has many similarities but at the same time we different from each other.
They were referring to the people immigrating to the USA being more docile or "well behaved" not necessarily the people there grassroots in JA who obviously have had resistance movements.

I am not sure that Caribbean blacks receiving money from the Government of America that African Americans helped them to progress. We came here and worked hard and went to school and gained wealth as a result.

As a person from the Caribbean, let me state this; THAT was an American panel. Stories from grandparents cannot replace lived experiences. Our take on racism will never be the same as Americans. We live in countries where our population is mostly black or mixed. So the only racism most of us will ever see is from America TV. However, don't be fooled, Caribbean ppl are highly educated, and we are very versed in our history and culture. We just chose not to keep ourselves in perpetual mental slavery. We take the good parts of our history and celebrate it. What Americans also forget is our ancestors are not only from Africa. Our ancestors are also Indian, Portuguese Arawaks, Caribs, Maroons, garifuna etc. So alot of us are not going to relate to "we are all Africans". That culture was taken away centuries ago. The famous Jamaica jerk meat that the world loves came from our Arawak ancestors.
The Maroons are Africans. The Garifunas are Africans. Please study your history very well. Majority of Jamaica identity with their Africanism, it is only a small that don’t. The Garifunas are people that strongly embraced their Africanism and they fought hard to NOT to be stripped of that.
Maroons are descendants of Africans in the Americas and Islands of the Indian Ocean who escaped from slavery and formed their own settlements. On the Descendant of The Pre Civil War Black American Population woman(ADOS), she says some interesting things. Many I agree with but the question that I ask, when she talks about being "on code" on "Black Identity," does she even fully understand it? The problem with conversations like this is trying to incorporate groups that have Sub Saharan African descent whether from the Continent or from the Caribbean into this "Black Identity" dynamic. So when they reject it and do what most people do, represent their own identity, people especially those who have a Pan Africanism perspective get upset with this. As I say all the time, my "Black Card" is my lineage history being a 4th-5th Full Descendant of The Pre Civil War Black American Population; the 1860 Black American Population of 4.4 million in which 88% were enslaved and 12% Free. That's ADOS and Free Black American ancestry. That's the Black American Community, the people who been through the history of what American Blackness entails. Caribbeans and Africans will never understand that dynamic because they don't have any frame of reference for understanding this. I don't care about the opinions on what others outside of my community thinks of me and mine. I know the resilience of my community and proud of us as a community. Are we perfect? Far from it. We have a lot of work to build up our community and we have to get an understanding of our community so that we have pride in it and not care about the opinions of others on us. Let's stop listening to the opinions of others about reparations, our culture and history. We're all that we need and we're the ones that matters!

When I saw a black American girl in university doing a foreign exchange program from America to the US I wanted to befriend her because I really wanted to know American culture. Anyway she would give me e look that white people give blacks. Lmao I was confused however when she was with white British people she would simp nd almost beg for friendship. However when I met black British people, I never felt judged they were welcoming. Made genuine friendship. I am a Nigerian and you might just be pleasantly surprised with an African on the panel especially since that was the idea and I believe such platforms are much needed. I know we are all products of experiences and the bad ones eat us up so much, but blanket applications have never been good nor correct. We need to constantly educate ourselves, Africans, African Americans, Afro-Caribbeans and all black people out there. I learnt so much from this discussion as should anyone who rightly feels they don't always know everything. While we, black people, may have distinctions which are imposed on us by lived experiences, in the end, this common skin delineates us now as always. And this 'war' would probably not have been had history taken a different course, but then that's history for you. If we are so divided among ourselves as it is, where is the front? Because when push comes to shove, it's us against others. All the internal strife won't matter. If I don't open my mouth, I'd probably stroll by your side in your hood without drawing so much attention right? Whether it is African Americans who have and continue to struggle to get properly integrated in their own country for which they have laboured beyond imagination or Africans reeling in and trying to break free of the obsolescence of poor leadership and corruption, we are still that race that others consider backward. This wrangling won't help us. There are strength and values across the big pond as there are weaknesses and no one can strip me of that fact. My summary is, however it may sound, what connects us is stronger than all of these things that divide us. Peace!

Some of that is a legacy of colonialism, where many of the territories were left so bereft resource wise by the colonial experience that we are still clawing our way out of that. Furthermore, as island states primarily with limited land space and small populations our capacity for growth is not super great tbh, and it has not been made easier by the various regulations that richer countries (like the U.S. to keep it real) impose in banking, international fiscal policy etc that works in their favour but imposes a disproportionate burden on our small and vulnerable economies.

I live in the South and we own the most houses than any Black Americans in the United States. We have 99 Black American Colleges, (30,000 Black Doctors and the majority are Americans. Fascinating discussion, but it definitely needed someone who is “African” or “Caribbean” to give their perspective on the conversation. Also in my opinion, education on culture and history is paramount when learning about topics relating to Black people as a diaspora or monolith. I'm a Bahamian and I did not know until maybe last year that there seems to be tremendous beef in the black diaspora...I believe that Afro-Americans have alot to be proud of and I have never looked down on the. it was the opposite...I admire them...(older generation) but after watching another video regarding similar topic, and read the comments from some Afro-Caribbeans I was shocked by them...Also, I think there are similar transactions taking place because there are americans who've set up businesses in Caribbean and send monies back to America. Also I dont think Caribbean people say to their children not to "hang" with afro-americans because they are "thugs" Caribbean people would probably be held more accountable because they are not in their homeland/country and no one is there to come to their rescue...so they just try to tell them keep to themselves...(not to say Afro-americans are bad) because if there's a fight, and a caribbean person gets involved trying to help their afro-american friend, that caribbean person can lose their travel rights to america or have their student visa revoked..but yes I agree some Caribbean people are not educated on the truth likewise some afro-americans aren't either...there's so much to be said but I think each diaspora has been negatively portrayed and also each has benefitted from each other

Also there Africans that fled into the mountain in Jamaica had treaty with Britain. There were an entire community of free blacks on the island who were able to freely travel back and forth from Caribbean into Europe where they would get educated. There’s a whole entire history being bypassed bc everyone wants to focus on just slavery.

I'm of Caribbean descendant, first gen American, yet my ancestors fled from slavery and joined the Colonial Marines to fight against America. That's how they freed themselves and ended up in the W.I. I'd kind of sort of maybe not probably get reparations.

So many African slaves in America ended up in the Caribbean after joining the British Army (the colonial marines emancipated conscripts for example), but a lot of advocates for reparations ignore them thoroughly, as if they didn't litterally take up arms against those who would cut theirs off.
At 6:49 when the one woman starts talking about Marcus Garvey & why he came to U.S. she is completely wrong about what she is talking about. Garvey himself said that he IMMIGRATED to the U.S. in 1916 (Which means that he FLED his homeland) because of the lack of a clear cut racial consciousness in Jamaica. Garvey is also quoted as saying: "The American Negroes are the best organized and the most conscious of all the Negroes in the world....They have become so because of their peculiar position...They live in very close contact with organized racial prejudice and this very prejudice forces them to a rare consciousness that they would not have had otherwise" Garvey also said that he created & founded the UNIA in Jamaica in 1914 & proposed an institute & industrial farm to go with it, based on Tuskegee University in the United States of which Booker T. Washington was the head & was made the head by founder of Tuskegee University "Lewis Adams" who founded "Tuskegee University" in 1881. The point that I am making here is that Garvey only came here to our country to "Tether" himself to things that our people (ADOS/FBA/Freedmen) we were already doing here....Which Garvey himself says. See....This is my problem with some of these people with immigrant backgrounds....Many of them are so misinformed & unlearned when it comes to the history & are intellectually dishonest when it's convenient. And to think that some of these people think that they can replace us....When even their biggest icons was following in our footsteps & was imitating & replicating the things that we were already doing. We are & have always been & will forever be the most prominent so-called "Blacks" in the world....And see...The elders of a-lot of these immigrants know that & this is where the vitriol comes from. The Jamaican young lady doesn’t realize that she has adopted our culture. She thinks it is American culture but it is Black American culture. Look at how she speaks compared to how her mother speaks while stating Black Americans have no culture .

Anyone claiming that Hip Hop is a culture. It isn’t. Hip Hop is a subculture, that is predominantly African American, involving cults (gangs), involving ritualised initiation, which always involve some form of violence as entry, and it’s subculture is in favour of the usage or distribution of drugs, extortion, prostitution, and anything illegal. Self degradation of themselves and the depopulation it’s own ethnic neighbours. Yes I’m typing in UK Eng. but I am A Floridian/North Carolinian Native Haitian-American. It is what it is. Some of us are worthy and most of us are not. The ones who are don’t waste time talking about this subject publicly, the African Americans here as well as some Caribbeans have made their bed, and they will lie in it alone. I’m not taking up for anyone, of ANY ethnic background.

Why wasn't Marcus Garvey successful in Jamaica? He was successful in America and had many followers but Jamaicans didn't follow him in large numbers. At the end of his life, Jamaica kicked him out and sent him to Europe. That's just a fact.
What? Where are you getting all that misinformation. Marcus Garvey was spied on by an African American, imprisoned and deported by America. He later left Jamaica for the UK (where he previously lived) after he became bankrupt.

It’s all inter connected … Caribbeans were in the USA…I can trace my family back to North Carolina….🤯 There were maroon societies in the Caribbean that history is quite unique. Alot of noble blacks had land, businesses, traveling to England, Ireland, and Scotland. History is more complex than just slavery.

How? Because it’s a different culture over here. Having the word American attached to one’s culture definitely is a diff experience. I was raised by my family but I still went to school in America which is where most of the indoctrination, socialization, shaping of perspective happens. For this to truly be a balanced debate we need to hear from someone not just “born” but actually raised somewhere in the Caribbean and raised in an African country as well as descendants of those places and direct blacks native to America.
African American culture - Jumping the Broom, Mac and cheese, Greens and sweet potatoes (the way we make it). Jambalaya. The Gullah Geechee are technically African Americans. The Nation of Islam. Bean Pie 😂 R&B Hip Hop, Rap, Jazz, The Blues, Go Go, certain dances, AAVE - people immigrate to the US, assimilate in with African Americans and begin speaking AAVE but it’s still our culture & language. They’re just assimilating into African American culture and then saying it’s not a culture because they can assimilate into it but it is part of our culture. White people even take from AAVE and make it trendy in their circles but they are taking from it - it’s not their culture. We joke a lot. Our swag, clothing and hair trends. Our art and literature. Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison. James Baldwin. Josephine Baker. Our hundreds of years of struggle here - our strength. There were many slave revolts on US soil and the response was hangings, chopping peoples heads off and dismembering them. Also the US is much larger geographically than a lot of the small islands and we were outnumbered by whites in comparison - also the Caribbean had a larger number of African enslaved people. Much different playing field. Also the US was prime land because of its cooler temperatures something that white people did not want to give up. It was likely much harder to overthrow the whites here during slavery. The National Museum of African American History and Culture is a great place to learn more about our culture and history in the US. Great 👍🏾 conversation!

The young lady whose parents is from the Caribbean, and the one who is half Jamaican are not going to lie on their grandparent, and parents. As a Black Haitian Canadian(Born in NY, Family on all sides Haitian, grew-up in Canada) now living in the USA(The deep NC south) , I have no beef with Black Americans. I don't have time for beef, I have my own self interest(Family, Robotics, Engineering, Community Building & Entrepreneurship) and they have their own self interest, sometimes it aligns and we work together. I'm of the strong belief that pro-black doesn't equate to pro-Black Americans, pro-African or pro-Carribean, pro-Black European, pro-Black Canadian, pro-Black Asian it's actually working for the benefits of all by finding overlap between all those ideology.

Outrageous statement about Caribbean, mainly Jamaicans being docile, where on earth did you find that in a book, no sensible person would make such a statement, your remark is just stupid. I have never read in any book or heard of any American going to the Caribbean/Jamaica to help/assist them in any rebellion/revolt against the British of which there were many.
When I heard them saying that I chuckled to my self cause I realized that they clearly had no clue what they were talking about. There were so many slave revolts going on up and down the Caribbean especially as a result of the Haitian revolution. Do they realize that more black people went to the Caribbean, Central and South America than the whole of the USA? Only a small number of enslaved people went to the USA. Also the Caribbean is not a monolith. Different islands or territories was controlled by different nations such as the Dutch, the French, the Spanish and the English so the Queen of England only had control over the English speaking islands and territories. The Congo from my understanding was controlled by Belgium and not England so when no one corrected the statement about the Queen and the Congo I was surprised. Finally, slavery was abolished in the English speaking Caribbean and Territories in 1834 many years before the USA so how did the enslaved in the USA help us gain freedom? Overall the discussion was interesting however it would have been nice to have a person that was born and raised from the Diaspora to speak on these topics since they would have been able to give a better more informed response. The Caribbean is not a monolith and is made up of over 20 island nations and territories with various languages, religions, races, cultures etc. The region has many similarities but at the same time we different from each other.

In the south is not so much segregationist more than it is a high number of black Americans live in the south therefore white people are regulated into small enclaves within those states because rather you in a rural area urban area or suburban area especially within the black region of those states listed above it’s all black that’s not racist thats just demographics of the state

As a person from the Caribbean, let me state this; THAT was an American panel. Stories from grandparents cannot replace lived experiences.
Our take on racism will never be the same as Americans. We live in countries where our population is mostly black or mixed. So the only racism most of us will ever see is from America TV.
However, don't be fooled, Caribbean ppl are highly educated, and we are very versed in our history and culture. We just chose not to keep ourselves in perpetual mental slavery. We take the good parts of our history and celebrate it. What Americans also forget is our ancestors are not only from Africa. Our ancestors are also Indian, Portuguese Arawaks, Caribs, Maroons, garifuna etc. So alot of us are not going to relate to "we are all Africans". That culture was taken away centuries ago. The famous Jamaica jerk meat that the world loves came from our Arawak ancestors.

The Maroons are Africans. The Garifunas are Africans. Please study your history very well. Majority of Jamaica identity with their Africanism, it is only a small that don’t. The Garifunas are people that strongly embraced their Africanism and they fought hard to NOT to be stripped of that.

On the Descendant of The Pre Civil War Black American Population woman(ADOS), she says some interesting things. Many I agree with but the question that I ask, when she talks about being "on code" on "Black Identity," does she even fully understand it?
The problem with conversations like this is trying to incorporate groups that have Sub Saharan African descent whether from the Continent or from the Caribbean into this "Black Identity" dynamic. So when they reject it and do what most people do, represent their own identity, people especially those who have a Pan Africanism perspective get upset with this.
As I say all the time, my "Black Card" is my lineage history being a 4th-5th Full Descendant of The Pre Civil War Black American Population; the 1860 Black American Population of 4.4 million in which 88% were enslaved and 12% Free. That's ADOS and Free Black American ancestry.
That's the Black American Community, the people who been through the history of what American Blackness entails. Caribbeans and Africans will never understand that dynamic because they don't have any frame of reference for understanding this.
I don't care about the opinions on what others outside of my community thinks of me and mine. I know the resilience of my community and proud of us as a community. Are we perfect? Far from it. We have a lot of work to build up our community and we have to get an understanding of our community so that we have pride in it and not care about the opinions of others on us.
Let's stop listening to the opinions of others about reparations, our culture and history. We're all that we need and we're the ones that matters!

I am a Nigerian and you might just be pleasantly surprised with an African on the panel especially since that was the idea and I believe such platforms are much needed. I know we are all products of experiences and the bad ones eat us up so much, but blanket applications have never been good nor correct. We need to constantly educate ourselves, Africans, African Americans, Afro-Caribbeans and all black people out there. I learnt so much from this discussion as should anyone who rightly feels they don't always know everything.
While we, black people, may have distinctions which are imposed on us by lived experiences, in the end, this common skin delineates us now as always. And this 'war' would probably not have been had history taken a different course, but then that's history for you. If we are so divided among ourselves as it is, where is the front? Because when push comes to shove, it's us against others. All the internal strife won't matter. If I don't open my mouth, I'd probably stroll by your side in your hood without drawing so much attention right? Whether it is African Americans who have and continue to struggle to get properly integrated in their own country for which they have laboured beyond imagination or Africans reeling in and trying to break free of the obsolescence of poor leadership and corruption, we are still that race that others consider backward. This wrangling won't help us. There are strength and values across the big pond as there are weaknesses and no one can strip me of that fact.
My summary is, however it may sound, what connects us is stronger than all of these things that divide us.

Some of that is a legacy of colonialism, where many of the territories were left so bereft resource wise by the colonial experience that we are still clawing our way out of that. Furthermore, as island states primarily with limited land space and small populations our capacity for growth is not super great tbh, and it has not been made easier by the various regulations that richer countries (like the U.S. to keep it real) impose in banking, international fiscal policy etc that works in their favour but imposes a disproportionate burden on our small and vulnerable economies.

I live in the South and we own the most houses than any Black Americans in the United States. We have 99 Black American Colleges, (30,000 Black Doctors and the majority are Americans. Fascinating discussion, but it definitely needed someone who is “African” or “Caribbean” to give their perspective on the conversation. Also in my opinion, education on culture and history is paramount when learning about topics relating to Black people as a diaspora or monolith. This goes along way in connecting folks even closer to their original roots

I'm a Bahamian and I did not know until maybe last year that there seems to be tremendous beef in the black diaspora...I believe that Afro-Americans have alot to be proud of and I have never looked down on the. it was the opposite...I admire them...(older generation) but after watching another video regarding similar topic, and read the comments from some Afro-Caribbeans I was shocked by them...Also, I think there are similar transactions taking place because there are americans who've set up businesses in Caribbean and send monies back to America. Also I dont think Caribbean people say to their children not to "hang" with afro-americans because they are "thugs" Caribbean people would probably be held more accountable because they are not in their homeland/country and no one is there to come to their rescue...so they just try to tell them keep to themselves...(not to say Afro-americans are bad) because if there's a fight, and a caribbean person gets involved trying to help their afro-american friend, that caribbean person can lose their travel rights to america or have their student visa revoked..but yes I agree some Caribbean people are not educated on the truth likewise some afro-americans aren't either...there's so much to be said but I think each diaspora has been negatively portrayed and also each has benefitted from each other

Y’all don’t even have an African on the panel. The relationship with Africans part should have been left out of the conversation to be fair.
They were suppose to show up, they cancelled last minute and we couldn't change our idea, we are having a part 2.
Also there Africans that fled into the mountain in Jamaica had treaty with Britain. There were an entire community of free blacks on the island who were able to freely travel back and forth from Caribbean into Europe where they would get educated. There’s a whole entire history being bypassed bc everyone wants to focus on just slavery.
An entire black society free since the 1600’s … think about that.

The majority in f the slaves went to the Carribeans, child, and Brazil, not to mention most of us were already here and ended up prisoners of war on our own land. Secondly, my mother worked as a single mother in the eighties, and nineties, with 3 children! She put her self through school and is now a PHD. I don’t know where these people get off being so XENOPHOBIC towards us, when many of them are on welfare and take advantage of other grants and government handouts, like DACA, and that. I'm of Caribbean descendant, first gen American, yet my ancestors fled from slavery and joined the Colonial Marines to fight against America. That's how they freed themselves and ended up in the W.I. I'd kind of sort of maybe not probably get reparations.

@@lordschild673 which I am, and im glad. So many African slaves in America ended up in the Caribbean after joining the British Army (the colonial marines emancipated conscripts for example), but a lot of advocates for reparations ignore them thoroughly, as if they didn't litterally take up arms against those who would cut theirs off.

At 6:49 when the one woman starts talking about Marcus Garvey & why he came to U.S. she is completely wrong about what she is talking about. Garvey himself said that he IMMIGRATED to the U.S. in 1916 (Which means that he FLED his homeland) because of the lack of a clear cut racial consciousness in Jamaica. Garvey is also quoted as saying:
"The American Negroes are the best organized and the most conscious of all the Negroes in the world....They have become so because of their peculiar position...They live in very close contact with organized racial prejudice and this very prejudice forces them to a rare consciousness that they would not have had otherwise"
Garvey also said that he created & founded the UNIA in Jamaica in 1914 & proposed an institute & industrial farm to go with it, based on Tuskegee University in the United States of which Booker T. Washington was the head & was made the head by founder of Tuskegee University "Lewis Adams" who founded "Tuskegee University" in 1881. The point that I am making here is that Garvey only came here to our country to "Tether" himself to things that our people (ADOS/FBA/Freedmen) we were already doing here....Which Garvey himself says. See....This is my problem with some of these people with immigrant backgrounds....Many of them are so misinformed & unlearned when it comes to the history & are intellectually dishonest when it's convenient. And to think that some of these people think that they can replace us....When even their biggest icons was following in our footsteps & was imitating & replicating the things that we were already doing. We are & have always been & will forever be the most prominent so-called "Blacks" in the world....And see...The elders of a-lot of these immigrants know that & this is where the vitriol comes from. It ain't hard to tell.

The Jamaican young lady doesn’t realize that she has adopted our culture. She thinks it is American culture but it is Black American culture. Look at how she speaks compared to how her mother speaks while stating Black Americans have no culture .

I have no idea what that American girl talking about their American slaves told caribbean slaves about revolution. 😂😂😂😂😂. Alot of revolts were lead by our native ancestors, not Africans. Smh. There are some caribbean countries that only had slavery for less than 40yrs because of wars fought by our Carib ancestors.

Anyone claiming that Hip Hop is a culture. It isn’t. Hip Hop is a subculture, that is predominantly African American, involving cults (gangs), involving ritualised initiation, which always involve some form of violence as entry, and it’s subculture is in favour of the usage or distribution of drugs, extortion, prostitution, and anything illegal. Self degradation of themselves and the depopulation it’s own ethnic neighbours. Yes I’m typing in UK Eng. but I am A Floridian/North Carolinian Native Haitian-American. It is what it is. Some of us are worthy and most of us are not. The ones who are don’t waste time talking about this subject publicly, the African Americans here as well as some Caribbeans have made their bed, and they will lie in it alone. I’m not taking up for anyone, of ANY ethnic background.

A majority of slaves brought to the Caribbean during slavery, were American Indians from the colonies. We do not know our true his-story. Do your research.

Why wasn't Marcus Garvey successful in Jamaica?
He was successful in America and had many followers but Jamaicans didn't follow him in large numbers.
At the end of his life, Jamaica kicked him out and sent him to Europe.
That's just a fact.
What? Where are you getting all that misinformation. Marcus Garvey was spied on by an African American, imprisoned and deported by America. He later left Jamaica for the UK (where he previously lived) after he became bankrupt.

Thank you for pointing that out, there were shipment of slaves from Carolina, Virginia….even New Orleans. It’s all inter connected … Caribbeans were in the USA…I can trace my family back to North Carolina….🤯 There were maroon societies in the Caribbean that history is quite unique. Alot of noble blacks had land, businesses, traveling to England, Ireland, and Scotland.
History is more complex than just slavery.
There were blacks that even had ownership of other blacks.
It was collateral
