    Very much appreciated! I am afraid that those cables that turned out badly will be continued to be sold under completely different name soon. Those brands really don't seem to last long.

    I found these usb-c cables on amazon that have a built-in power readout. The USB-c connector has a small LED display, showing the watts delivered. I found it to be very handy -- until it failed. It was too hot to touch, probably failed with a short circuit. It got really hot, the connector actually melted. As a result, I wanted to know what kind of quality issue causes such a dangerous failure. I hope you are able to review some of these charging cables in the future. thanks.

      I have looked at two of these cables, the AOHi (in the round 3 video) and the Mcdodo (I think in this video). I noticed the ends are warmer in general versus a normal cable. They have to cram a lot of electronics into a small space so it isn't a surprise for a cable with a display in it to short out. There are tons of cheap cables online though. I should do a teardown of the cables with displays in them and see if there is anyway they could short during normal use. Thanks for the insight though. A lot of the cables have a circuit board in them now for various functions.

  • @johnosborne1151
    @johnosborne1151 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Good morning,
    What cables do you recommend for providing "passthrough" power to a docking station (details below)? Your recommendation from Uni was not available. This one, also from Uni, "appears" to be its replacement [Uni, 100w USB C-C, 6.6']. I was about to purchase it but read the following on Amazons product page: "Connnecting to docking station is not recommended." Yikes! Why would Uni not recommend powering docking stations with this cable?
    The setup incudes the docking station noted which has (4) usb ports and an SSD slot. The total expected power draw for all devices, including the slot and docking station, is from 20-35watts. A 65w laptop may, at times, be plugged into the docking station/ or directly to the charger . The cable sought will run from a Baseus 100W desktop charger to a USB-C PD 3.0 charge port on the docking station (rated at 100watts).
    Charging phones is the lesser need. The more important priority is to provide passthrough power from the Baseus unit to the docking station via a quality cable. What do you think, is there a reason why the Uni cable cannot be used to deliver passthrough power to docking stations? If so, what other cable(s) would you recommend?
    Thank-you for considering my query.
    jo

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm, not sure. Maybe they are worried about it's data abilities in the docking station environment, because it is USB 2 capable only? Maybe not considering the power side of the docking station and not the data side? That's a pure guess though.
      In terms of your analysis it seems pretty complete and it sounds like it should work fine. The allthings website has tons of cables listed so check that out. I've been using the zeexus cable for years now, it's data and power and pretty good for both. Of course it is also unavailable.

    At this point, I have been through at least 10 cable brands, including Anker. I am sick and tired of USB C cables failing every few months because the end (tip) became faulty. By the end, they only hold charge if I angle the end a certain way. I don't understand why this happens.... Because I have this cable plugged into a wall at home, so it's not like I am tossing around.
    Do you have a possible explanation for why this happens? Is it just me??

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have yet to have a single one break. I do not treat them well for the most part. I do maybe have better cable etiquette than most though, always grab the connector not the wire, avoid sharp angles or use right angle if needed, use a cable that is long enough, then for my travel brick, I never take the cables out of the brick, wrap the whole thing up in a ball and off I go. I don't think you are alone though, the USB C connector is tiny and frail.

    • @lars2894
      @lars2894 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @AllThingsOnePlace Thank you for your advise. I will say, cables that have a built in LED display for wattage seem to fail much more frequently, as well as regular cheap braided cables from alphabet seller brands on amazon.

      I would expect it to perform at an acceptable level, on par with the other 2m ugreen USB C-C cables. Being 100W capable they generally have to make the the wire good enough to perform at a reasonable level.
