What a lot of enthusiasts don't know is that this is actually a fun, little car. I had the chance to drive one of these almost a year ago and they're quite a joy to drive on a backroad. Definitely an underrated car in the car community.
Thank you for finally doing my car! I own one of these and have it modded with 90 additional HP to 350 WHP and it is so underrated and the perfect sleeper for any rear wheel driver thinking they want to race a FWD "Old GM" product. I bought it used and always wanted to see someone review it from its stock specs. Needless to say the got it right from 08 - 10 by turbo charging! !!
Very underrated car. This is a great car for the time and even now used if you can find one that is in good condition. Yes it is a Cobalt witch is a cheap car but hey, you get what you payed for. GM desperately needs to build more small fast cars. This car was truly a great performance car in its time.
+ZL1Gimpelson For the cost of this car, back then, you could have gotten something much nicer. This car looks ok, but the interior quality sucks, and is basically a cavalier with a new body and turbo
The Pioneer sound system is the one reason I'll ever miss having a Cobalt. In the front seats with the tweeters (the back seat not so much), the sound is comparable to what you'll here in some high end vehicles but with more bass. Unfortunately that's literally all there is to miss unless you got the SS
Thank you for this. As a former owner of this vehicle I can honestly attest that $2,500 worth of parts including a tune will have you kicking a 600whp skylines and vettes straight in the balls. It's easy to get it up to 500whp for two g's. Just google Cobalt SS Turbo vs Vette or a GT-R. You'll be amazed!
You'd blow a hole in a piston or the block. You'd need at least 4 grand in the engine to handle the necessary boost to make that power. You're a fool if you think you can make that power for 2 grand.
knowxvill 370z are ugly as fuck in my opinion, I doubt you actually have one,do a quick video on it. Also I don't really believe that he could beat a skyline with 2 g's of mods on a cobalt.
knowxvill I bought a used intake, and a catless downpipe for $250. And re flashed it for $120. It dynowed at 300whp and 370wtq. At 2,900 lbs. of curb weight and 24lbs of boost I raped a few evo's, sti's and a cbr 600 rr. Find me another car that can make such power for such money. Stock internals hold close to 480whp, sure you'd need a clutch and full bolt ons, and and a used compressor wheel but that's all easily acquired with a $2,500 dollar budget. And fine, let's say it needs 5k to make 600whp. That all could be done for 14k with the car included. It's not the looks to me, it's the power.
I still drive my 08 SS. Bought it in 09, had a little over 5,000 miles. It now has over 90,000. It sure is a lot of fun to drive. Thing is still really quick.
Going to be picking up an 09 with 49k on her this weekend. Upgrading from my 2.2 cobalt. Cobalts are good cars. Mechanically they are excellent. Only thing that lets them down is the interior but most car people would rather have power and reliability vs a nice interior. Can't wait to buy mine.
@@bullridermusic2054 I want a cobalt for my first car, I need to set up a go fund me page for money first tho lol. I found one in Jacksonville for 1,500 and 28$ a month but if I can raise 2000 on gfm then I can just buy it straight up and still have 500$ left over lol
I remember watching this in March of 2015 shortly after this video came out. At the end of this video I was sold. I've been driving my 2009 Cobalt SS Sedan Turbo ever since.
The Cobalt is a shiny reminder of rare GM cars. Back in the day me and one friend of mine removed, rebuilt and reinstalled the entire engine of the SS. It only took FOUR HOURS. The Cobalts are surprisingly well made. They can easily shred the tires off the wheels. It really handles like a house fly.
This particular beautiful SS turbalt has the GMS1 kit as its very easy to tell from the 3.3 bar map sensor on the intake manifold and putting down 290WHP @21 psi of boost of its K04 turbo. I installed many of these kits back from 08-10 and these things rip for their day! Can believe that you filmed (or found one!) That bone stock besides the GMS1 kit! Amazing review! Ive kept my 08 turbalt to this day!
Just for further info, that digital gauge has 6 other main displays (Air/fuel ratio, Boost Pressure, Digital speedo and lateral G meter, Torque and HP gauge, and spark advance). In a secondary display where the gear selection is shown in the video it can also display intake air temperature, fuel pressure, oil temperature, tire pressure, and a barometer.
Wow Kyle. just, wow. You never cease to impress. Look how far you've come!!! You are one of the best youtubers out there, And with A great career path!!!! You can make any car seem amazing, and I just do not know how you do it. You are the perfect example of what a car guy should be. Let's see what 2015 Has in store for us!!!( Acura NSX, Many others, and I know for sure over 1 million subscribers!!! I know it!!!) :)
You are like the best car reviewer ever! I've always watched your reviews I heard the 2015 mustang convertibles just hit the dealer I would like to ask you if you find one please review it :)
Also Kyle, when speaking numbers, say zero, not Oh. The 2008-10 2.0L turbo is Direct injected. First small car with a DI engine in the US. First seen in Saturn Sky Redline/Pontiac Solstice GXP and in Europe since 2004. It has a Saab transmission in it too, as well as rear brakes.
These cars are definitely awesome little tuners to start out with. I bought mine 4 years ago. I love it. I've never had one problem with the car. It was supercharged. I ditched that and with a precision turbo. Car makes roughly 410whp. She definitely moves out quick. No one expects it that's the best part. These engines are built pretty strong. It's a nice cheap car to have fun an go fast in.
great vid man, i have an 2009 and IT PULLS. look up COBALT SS HALF MILE and you'll see just how capable the turbalt is. stock turbo with a few bolt ons and a good tune is a little street monster.
James Germano Actually have an Evo now, some bad things happened with the Subie. But, when i had it, it was amazing. The only downside to the wrx is the radio and speakers are so bad, but its 10x better than the Cobalt. You should do it dude.
This car is almost not known in Europe countries, only a few people can recognize it thanks to Need For Speed Most Wanted (2005). I wish one day I will have possibility to sit in this underrated, beautiful car
You are not right in EU we got Cobalts (moslty not SS one). In yours country not-SS is over 20. SS supercharged 3 or more but totaled. SS TC you got at least two. One in north one in south. Propably you can got option to see one of them in Cracow. AMCar spot in saturday.
I own a 08 Sport Coupe with a 2.4 auto trans . This car is not a Turbo, but is very fun to drive & no leather trim on the seats but has everything else & was $4,000 less than a turbo , same suspension & exhaust . Bought it new in 08 & I have regrets.
I heard that Chevy also offered a Stage 1 performance upgrade for this car that purported bumped up HP to 290 or something like that! Is that true? what did the package come with?
Added 3 bar Map sensors to handle a few pounds of added boost. There is a factory tune upgrade. Still not as robust as ZZP engine 3rd generation, it cools more efficiently, adds a larger choice of ZFR Turbos, that result in 400 Hp at the wheels-detuned to that level unless you change internal hardware.
I was so poor back in 2010 I couldn't afford a car like this. Now that I can buy one, not even used can be found where I live...but I got myself a new turbocharged car back in 2019 so at least I got that.
Great video, very informative. I own a 2007 Monte Carlo LT, and I noticed the power window buttons and the stereo are the same. My Monte Carlo LT 3.5 V6 make 211HP and the same or close in torque, and it pulls all the way to 100MPH (the ride quality above a 100 mph is very good becuase of the soft sprung suspension), top speed is 112 (electronically limited) 0 to 60 in 8 seconds(claimed not tested) and it has a huge wing LOL --so yea it feels more like 240hp and torque so I think GM does underate their horsepower claims. SABEK KYLE do a vidoe on a 2007 monte Carlo SS, The last year the made a V8 Monte Carlo. I have seen the vidoe of the grey monte carlo you have, I think it was one of your first vidoes becuase the video quality was fuzzy, but they were updated significantly for 2006 and 2007. THANKS AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
I love your reviews kyle keep up the good work. I particularly don't like American before 2010. Where built quality left much to be desired. Regardless I really enjoyed your review thanks.
Less than 3000 built in 2009. Mine has the original turbo, but with metal intercooler pipes and Ram Intake she was tuned up to 320 horses at the wheels. It will not use the add on parts unless you discard the original tune, something known as read down in the onboard computer. Of course the Hahn high flow intercooler and exhaust mods helped. Still able to get 30 mpg if you travel at hwy. speeds. ;0)
It's like what Mr.Regular said about the SRT-4. It's too American to hang out with the imports but not V-eight-y enough to hang around with the muscle cars. I really think they should have made it a hatchback.
My dad had one exactly like this one but with a larger spoiler, but it got stolen and lit on fire. Sucks cause it would've been mine. It was a really nice car.

I'm not sure why people say this car is ugly. I quite like the look of the Cobalt. The hell does everyone else drive? A brand new Challenger? Viper? F-22 Raptor?
You threw me off a bit there man. You mentioned it had 255's and I had to make sure that was accurate. Lol. I was about to say my sky came with 245s and this thing came with even bigger tires lol.

I've never seen a cobalt ss so clean and unmodified
I agree but tbh, most Cobalts' stock headlights look like trash so if I really wanted a more agressive looking car I'll change the headlights first.
I own this exact car aside from the digital pod on the pillar, I have the analog dial, love seeing my boost hit 25+ psi

0-60 in 5.5 seconds is quite impressive for a car like that!
It’s a 4 cylinder c6 z06, 4 pot brakes, launch control, NLTS, good suspension, good nurg time (fastest at its time for any fwd car) and nice wheels

Cobalt ss my favourite choice for a car.
