kyle de man HJ for the win! I've got a HJ deluxe 253, great car! still going strong! you may have read about another HJ or HX doing over 1mil kms and he claims its the only one to have done so, i call bullshit on that! mine has done 1mil kms and hasn't required any replacement parts. the other guy has replaced the gearbox 3 times and has gone through some engines as well. just thought you would like to know? This is proof that V8's last longer lol.
The 2014 Chevy SS is a powerful sports sedan that drives like a dream. It's basically a four-door Corvette with an LS3 engine that produces 415 hp, getting you to 60 mph in under five seconds. The drive train gets the power to the road instantly, with no time wasted on burnout. And the handling is astounding. You can take a sharp curve at pretty much any speed you like. The car just grips the road and rolls through it with ease. The technology inside the car is equally exciting. This Chevy SS is just flat-out fun to drive, whether you're pushing it to its limits, or just cruising to work. This is one of the two best cars I've ever had. The other is the earlier version, the Pontiac G8 GXP.
Dude this review is the best! Better than professionals reviewing the Commodore here in Aus. Love your attention to detail and how you cover all areas of the car.
Thanks for posting this Mr. Kyle! You never cease to disappoint! All of your recent videos have been nothing short of phenomenal! Keep up the good work my friend!
I like that you made note that it's actually a Holden. Unfortunately you guys don't get the real version, the HSV GTS. That thing is an absolute beast!
thumbs up for the video and kyle.copy and paste this to kyle.mi personal opinion it is t a chevy its tuned opel insignia under holden.i don t go put thumbs down still for me not real chevy
this has to be of your best in depth tours i've seen by far, how you highlight the car's history and the company. Yeah sure this car is an import, but I'd buy this if I could afford it in a heartbeat
Those guys need like an actual production team to make a 10 minute video of drive bys and bias comments. Kyle needs himself and the car to make a 30 minute INFORMATIONAL video!
i just bought this car last week and can honestly say the ONLY downside is the fuel economy, but only because the sound of the engine in high revs is soooooo fucking nice its kinda hard for any car lover to not appreciate it and stomp on the gas, haha. best investment ever. the torque is just unreal in this car
In california gas is around $3.90 -$4.15 per gallon, which is ridiculous!!!!! 20 gallon tank translates to $70-75 for a full tank. highway average is usually 75mph+ usually 80. I dont even have 500 miles on it yet but i already know im keeping this car till i die.
ohh i got the 2015 not 2014, almost the same but GM magnetic ride control is installed which is pretty cool and nice touch for stiiffer suspension modes. i dont understad why general motors DIDN'T make the seats all leather as apposed to half suede and half leather
I've always enjoyed your videos and the fact you focus on demonstrating the subject vehicle and allowing your viewers to come to their own conclusions on what is seen. Its a rarity among automotive reviewers.
***** Don't get me wrong the car looks great inside and out and GM has made HUGE strides in improving their products. It's just that I'm not a fan of the shiny trim pieces because it looks like, and probably is, cheap plastic. I think the Pontiac G8 was a much better looking car.
As per usual. Excellent in depth look Kyle. One thing I'd like to clarify for future reference is the "UTE'' is actually what Aussies call the car/truck hybrid (ie El Camino, Ford Ranchero, Brat, etc). It's pronounced "yoot" . Took me a minute to get that until I worked with a Australian who kept tossing it out there until I eventually said "The hell is a 'ute' ''. lmao!
CPBlackopsMW3 More horsepower doesn't necessarily mean it's faster. The new Caprice PPV has around 400 hp, while the Taraus PPV EcoBoost has around 330 hp. Meanwhile, the Taraus is faster than the Caprice. The EcoBoost has 2 turbos and is AWD, and the Caprice is naturally aspirated and only RWD. HP doesn't always mean faster.
Kyle, great walk around as usual. The chevy ss is great sleeper car. Hennessy and other after market companies already have kits and mods that push this beast into the 500hp easy. When you read the performance info. This car can take on Lexus ISF, Ford SHO and Dodge Charger RT in real world freeway/highway (cough) driving. And that's before tuning. For the comment on cheap interior, the interior feels very premium compared to two of the cars i mention above. And maybe the lexus as well, only due to the slightly outdated interior design of the ISF. Love this car. It's a real man car. 2015 Only comes one way with three options. In 2014, the car came with two options. No packages. We men are simple creatures and this car reflects that.
I'm starting to see a lot more of these around. It's too bad they are closing the Holden plant. These seem to be extremely under appreciated and deserve much more attention. I know it's Holden Based but for some reason it reminds me a lot of the 94-96 Impala SS in some ways!
This is a vf holden commodore (chevy ss) and the ve holden commodore was the g8 pontiac so both this chevy ss and the pontiac g8 are both holden commodores and they are rwd and do come in manuals aswell
Lol at complaining about a $45k price, we'd be lucky to get the V6 model with all these options for under $50k in Australia. You guys really are dumb, you've all been asking for our v8 4 door Falcons and Commodores for years and you get them and don't like them at all. Smh.
It's not as simple as that buddy, there are reasons why your Australian iterations cost more, and why standards of "expensive" is different in each county.
I think it had more to do with advertising and actually letting people know it exists/making it look cool by putting it in movies/music videos ect.. if people didn’t want cars like this then the charger wouldn’t sell as well as it does
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. my new dream car by my favorite reviewer.mind you I haven't even watched the video yet the advertisement is still going but this is the review I was waiting for...
achuck4321 This car does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds sits on a Camaro chassis with brembo brakes.theres no option list for it other than colors its fully loaded.for petes sake it parks its self what the hell is your definition of nicer.ahh lemme guess probably a 5 series cock mobile with 220 hp at $45,000 and at that price a german is a base model.
Devin Kenney the Camaro rides on the same platform as the VE Commodore/Pontiac G8, VF Commodore/SS, WM/WN Caprice/Caprice PPV due to it being engineered by Holden themselves so the mechanics would be compatible with the Camaro due to being built on the Zeta platform.
I had a 2015 SS with the spare and moon roof. I owned it for 9 months. It was my daily car and absolutely loved it until the second/third month after someone hit me. After that the magic faded knowing it’s not a clean car fax and I had to sell it.(driving 80 miles one way to work in the beast wasn’t going to happen) If you have a chance to buy one, don’t pass it up. It’s a great vehicle.
So many people in the comments apparently don't understand that GM estimates they will only sell about 3000. Therefore they don't want to waste money giving it extra powertrains if it fails. I read somewhere that if it does sell more then 3000 they will add more power trains and possibly a manual.
They WOULD sell thousands upon thousands of them if they had a manual. Them saying they will only sell the thing that will get thousands to sell if they sell thousands is just fucking fucked the fuck up. Insert confused Jackie Chan meme here.
I liked seeing this. I left off in 1996 with an SS, black with chrome. I am so glad something is getting done. I assume those will be back to normal cop car duty as well.
Voss the boss Chevy and Holden are both subsidiaries of gm. What your saying doesn't make any sense. This car is a Holden with Chevy badges basically. So you already have the outcome of your impossible request.
***** Are you talking about the HFV6? I was talking about the LS V8. I don't think GM is going to sell the V6 in the US. Technically, there is no Holden engine or Chevy engine anyway. It's all GM Power Train these days. They say "Chevy small block" for nostalgia.
Gotta give it up to the Holden Commodore! This will be my next car... My Pontiac G8 is still a beast though. Australian cars all the way from now on...
People don't seem to realize that some of us want a car with practicality and luxury while still being able to be fun. This car is great and I'm happy that GM decided to bring back the 4 door muscle car.
Awesome review, very detailed. The only thing missing was a track test. Thank you so much for showing the 90s impala. Its still a much desired, last of muscle car era car. I still think they should've made an ss impala. And what is up with the incomplete rear end on these chevy? Again great job. Keep'em coming.
Nice car. Love the exhaust note. Sounds even better than my V's stock note. Though I would so remove those chevy badges and put either Holden or Pontiac's
Yeap your not wrong there Brian!!! I think the age of big v8's is coming to an end. I remember as a kid seeing Commodore SS and Falcon xr8's everywhere. Now you see squat

one of the coolest cars of the current era. A beast of a 4 door saloon sleeper. The Australians know how to do it
No compromise on this car.
Finally an american that wont deny we design these cars and have been making 4 door v8 rear drive cars for past 30 plus years
kyle de man 30+ years? Mate, where have you been living? We've been doing it since the 60's!
im only talking bout commodores not all the old stuff, bit before my time hj's and hq's lol
kyle de man HJ for the win! It is just another Chevy ripoff
Thank you for acknowledging the car's Australian roots (Holden), some people find it hard to do that.
Dude this review is the best! Better than professionals reviewing the Commodore here in Aus. Love your attention to detail and how you cover all areas of the car.
Very proud Australian watching this video.
These cars are starting to pop up all over the place, and I absolutely love it.
A gorgeous modern muscle car, that actually delivers on all fronts!
My dad and I test drove this car today and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
I love how this guy reviews, he has the stats that no other car reviewer has about this car. I'm looking into a 2014 ss and this is the perfect video
this fucking car, can't stop thinking about it!! wish i could afford it.
Thanks for posting this Mr. Kyle! You never cease to disappoint! All of your recent videos have been nothing short of phenomenal! Keep up the good work my friend!

still for me not real chevy
that sound and the way the car looks, even the brakes, i know the next car im buying this is dope!
This car is amazing! It looks very cool, I wish he'd do POV test drives on all of his reviews :(
this has to be of your best in depth tours i've seen by far, how you highlight the car's history and the company. Yeah sure this car is an import, but I'd buy this if I could afford it in a heartbeat
the Exhaust note is much more AWESOME in Person!
I like the new side-shot for rear seat passengers. Really makes it much easier to see how a person fits into the vehicle!
Finally Aussie Muscle is back! I'm surprised Kyle managed to get a video up before Motortrend, Autoguide, etc.
Those guys need like an actual production team to make a 10 minute video of drive bys and bias comments. Kyle needs himself and the car to make a 30 minute INFORMATIONAL video!
frankth3frizz Thanks man I appreciate it!
Every now and then I get lucky, pretty awesome to get the video out so quickly!
Seats are absolutely amazing!!! For any sedan, and that exhaust...Nice job GM!
Damn is that really the exhaust sound??? That mog sound like a beast.....Looks bad ass and I wouldn't mind having that for the summer!
Very thorough and professional walk through.
i just bought this car last week and can honestly say the ONLY downside is the fuel economy, but only because the sound of the engine in high revs is soooooo fucking nice its kinda hard for any car lover to not appreciate it and stomp on the gas, haha. best investment ever. the torque is just unreal in this car

Your videos save me a trip to the dealership. Great job!
Fantastic camera work! Love how you captured the Heads Up Display. As always, great work...
Thanks Brock!
I've always enjoyed your videos and the fact you focus on demonstrating the subject vehicle and allowing your viewers to come to their own conclusions on what is seen. Its a rarity among automotive reviewers.
All that polished trim really brings down the interior quality.
Disagree.
Really shows how behind you are. All the manufacturers here have really stepped it up.
*****
Don't get me wrong the car looks great inside and out and GM has made HUGE strides in improving their products. It's just that I'm not a fan of the shiny trim pieces because it looks like, and probably is, cheap plastic. I think the Pontiac G8 was a much better looking car.
Impossibly Black the g8 was so sexy!
As per usual. Excellent in depth look Kyle. I can't wait to own this car
I love the interior on this car. It reminds me of the 2008 - 2012 Malibu
This would be a nice car for my dad, he likes practical cars like this one, and he also likes fast cars, this one has both.
that piece of shit aint fast
David Bloodworth
It's got a decent amount of horsepower.
Man, that interior is looking gorgeous.
Love the Australian v8s. Shame they don’t make them anymore. The SS v8 is becoming a collectors item apparently.
This is my dream vehicle!! Terrific job bro.
This car is nice in all but I think aesthetically the G8 GXP was better
finally a step up from that family friendly Malibu this is sweet!
I'm a Chevrolet guy, I want this car!
Find a used caprice ppv it's the same thing but long wheelbase
The PPV is not easy to find
My cousin has one.
Then get a Malibu. Same car but cheaper.
Kyle, great walk around as usual. The chevy ss is great sleeper car. Hennessy and other after market companies already have kits and mods that push this beast into the 500hp easy. The 2015 SS now has a 6-speed manual as a no-cost option. Finally! It also has the Magnetic Ride Control suspension as standard.
Damn this car sound so good
Hey Kyle, loved this video. I've been waiting for you to do this car. Keep up the good work.
This the only GM in history I would buy.
All the GM's cars has been really good!
I'm starting to see a lot more of these around. It's too bad they are closing the Holden plant. These seem to be extremely under appreciated and deserve much more attention. I know it's Holden Based but for some reason it reminds me a lot of the 94-96 Impala SS in some ways!

Don't forget the Holden Monaro (a Mad Max car) - Pontiac GTO.
Great job showing and describing all the cars features and amenities.
Lol at complaining about a $45k price, we'd be lucky to get the V6 model with all these options for under $50k in Australia. You guys really are dumb, you've all been asking for our v8 4 door Falcons and Commodores for years and you get them and don't like them at all. Smh.

Chevy didn’t advertise it it’s all Chevys fault it didn’t sell
The Chevrolet SS really is a perfection. It has sporty design and an awesome engine. It looks similar to the Pontiac G8
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. my new dream car by my favorite reviewer.mind you I haven't even watched the video yet the advertisement is still going but this is the review I was waiting for...
why is that your dream car? yeesh, aim a little higher. For the same price, you can get wayy nicer cars.
achuck4321
My dream car used to be a 2004 Toyota Celica ..
achuck4321 This car does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds sits on a Camaro chassis with brembo brakes.theres no option list for it other than colors its fully loaded.for petes sake it parks its self what the hell is your definition of nicer.ahh lemme guess probably a 5 series cock mobile with 220 hp at $45,000 and at that price a german is a base model.
Not a Camaro, a Holden VF Commodor .
Just got mine 2014 with only 400 miles and love it
These sound better than our ss's over in Australia :(
ReaLzEdits Does anybody know why?
Matthew Brennan Chong Yeah you're right, Holden is making a LS3 variant of this car soon :) hopefully it will sound this good
+ReaLzEdits Sounds even better :D
I had a 2015 SS with the spare and moon roof. I owned it for 9 months. It was my daily car and absolutely loved it until the second/third month after someone hit me. Been waiting for this one for awhile. Thanks Kyle! :)
That's the sexiest Malibu EVER...
It's not a Malibu
Sure it is!
The front looks like a Malibu, a bit of Cruze towards the end!
whole diffrent car.. Its a rebadge Pontiac g8
Same car
I've been waiting for this. By the way, a good follow up video would be the new Caprice. It had an SS dash with a Column mounted shifter.
Go Holden!!!
I liked seeing this. I left off in 1996 with an SS, black with chrome. I am so glad something is getting done. I assume those will be back to normal cop car duty as well.
Was that some backfire I heard?
no it was a 6.2 liter V8
Nice one Kyle. I've been waiting for an in depth review of this car for a while.
I'd get rid of my sho for one of these
OMG, I've been waiting for you to take video of one of these! Man, that V8 sounds good, thanks for posting!
They need a shadow option to get rid of all that chrome
Kyle nice review (as always!), The person that put those pop-out cupholders low in the back seat needs a raise. Brilliant!
I don't know man, the Pontiac G8 GXP just looked much more sporty and cool
I Once Had A Holden VT Commodore And It Was Over 16 Years Old In Perfect Condition But Now I Have A Holden Cruze
it's a holden, gm stole the design from gmh.
Take them shitty chevy badges off and put Holden lion badges, gotta do it right, it's a badass Holden!
Chevy shold brake away from gm and just join holden.
Voss the boss *break*
Voss the boss Chevy and Holden are both subsidiaries of gm. What your saying doesn't make any sense. This car is a Holden with Chevy badges basically. So you already have the outcome of your impossible request.
Great video! I feel like GM should have done the 10 Gen Impala the same way
makes you wonder why holden should ever close in australia.nothing better than a HSV
cause government won't support them
Hennessey Performance needs to get a hold onto one of these and work their magic.
Wow! That SS sounds pissed....
Hell yeah it does! It could take down a Charger, no problem.
One of the best GM sedans ever made. Hands down, I drive a caprice daily :) close enough
Everyone watching this video should search up HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) is Australias best saloon :)
Saloon? Wtf man. Its sedan!!!
Tim The Aussie In the UK we call sedans saloons
FLABEX224 And everywhere else in the world saloon means bar or tavern.
So? we call it saloons, so neither is right or wrong
FLABEX224 I didn't say that, i was just saying that our languages have differences. geeeez, not everything has to be an argument ya know?
I love the proportions of this car and I like that its stealthy but a little more flash would have been good.
Would of considered this car if it wasn't for the V8. Beautiful piece of machinery by Chevy.
By Holden not Chevy.
Kurt Mcalister Holden yes.
Kurt Mcalister with a Chevy powertrain.
Shame they couldn't bring the VF Calais V over for you which comes in a 6cyl RWC platforms and has extremely good fuel consumption fo a 6cyl
***** Are you talking about the HFV6? I was talking about the LS V8. I don't think GM is going to sell the V6 in the US. Technically, there is no Holden engine or Chevy engine anyway. It's all GM Power Train these days. They say "Chevy small block" for nostalgia.
Great in depth view kyle keep up the good work as always man!
Its a shame holden and ford (Aus) are calling it quits in 2017/18
Gotta give it up to the Holden Commodore! This will be my next car... My Pontiac G8 is still a beast though. Australian cars all the way from now on...
I can't get over the grill, they should have put the new Impala grill on it
My god, it looks amazing. I normally go for German cars but Chevy's always have a place in my mind
Because the VF commodore was made and released in in mid 2014, so they can't just change it.
Typical Americans.
The grill is the way it is, because it is an Australian car
People don't seem to realize that some of us want a car with practicality and luxury while still being able to be fun. This car is great and I'm happy that GM decided to bring back the 4 door muscle car.
is it just called the ss lol :o? and does it come stick?!
No stick. Yeah, I facepalmed too.
Yes it actually does (well, did) come in stick.
the 2015 _ 2016 models did come with optional 6 speed manual transmission with eletronic e brake.
He went SUPER in depth on this car....wish he wouldve done the same for the G8 vid he posted.
Doesn't look aggressive enough. G8 styling was better.
It's not supposed to be agreement
Awesome review, very detailed. The only thing missing was a track test. Thank you so much for showing the 90s impala. Its still a much desired, last of muscle car era car. I still think they should've made an ss impala. And what is up with the incomplete rear end on these chevy? Again great job. Keep'em coming.
Man that thing sounds great. Don't care for the typical Chevy look and would never pay $45K for it. I was also shocked when I saw it was automatic.
It's not even a Chevy...
fordgtman1992 Still a GM, Holden is basically GM of Australia
fordgtman1992 It is a Chevy. Specifically, a Chevy SS.
Nice car. Love the exhaust note. Sounds even better than my V's stock note. Though I would so remove those chevy badges and put either Holden or Pontiac's
camaro sedan version
Best part of the film 5:49 to 5:53 :)
Nice job Kyle ! Nice every day car :)
The great Australian muscle car
Yeap your not wrong there Brian!!!
I think the age of big v8's is coming to an end.
I remember as a kid seeing Commodore SS and Falcon xr8's everywhere.
Now you see squat
Yeap I can relate to it 100%, but manual transmissions are still being sort after here in Aus, but I would agree its on the decline.
I bought a 2012 Jeep wrangler CRD manual.
Found out the new 2016 dont offer the manual anymore and just Auto
and laziness
-
Mate we all know the Falcons are where it's at XK to XE EA to FG
wow, your vids have come a long way since i last watched one, good job :)
It's nice but it's just so bland. I wish Chevrolet would make the new impala RWD and put this powertrain in it.
Great technical review. Very pleasant. A prospective buyer's best friend!
Nice looking car, just disappointed that GM didn't put a 6sp manual in it, I guess they don't want any competition with the CTS-V....
Strange that. The original Aussie models(Holden) come with a 6 speed manual or auto as well as an auto LPG.
Coming soon
Not sold on the exterior, beautiful exhaust note and interior though. Much nicer than the Impala. Good job Kyle!
U T E is pronounced as one word mate! haha.
Kyle, shoot a video for the Cadillac STS-V. So much power and so much car for its time. It is definitely a video a lot of enthusiasts would appreciate.
Pretty nice. I really wish they would redesign that ugly old beige-gold badge though. At least make it smaller. It looks pretty tacky.
i'd try to rip off the chevy badge and put a holden one on haha
"I really wish they would redesign that ugly old beige-gold badge though. At least make it smaller"
Oh! It will happen ..... after Mercedes Benz, VW, Audi etc. start putting smaller badges or something different though. So, you should say the very same thing to them as well :)
Love it,2014 Chev ss (Holden Commodore)
How many damn times are you going to start this thing? Pushing down on the gas over and over again, is pure childishness.
i agree. that and the radio. he's asking for a copyright strike with the radio alone.
I was SOO looking forward to this, i want one when i turn 16!
