    1) Higher octane gas is needed for higher performance engines. It burns slower to reduce detonation in higher compression and forced induction engines which can damage the engine.
    2) I'd probably avoid the Gatlinburg area for a little while. They're going to have to do ALOT of cleanup, unless you're going to volunteer to help.

    I don't know if I can handle seeing Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburgh yet, I fell in love with it watching the videos both you and carpetbagger did.... It was someplace I really want to go to, maybe next summer. In fact just last weekend I was showing one of my closest friends the video of you racing through the all wooden go-cart track, he was blown away (since all our tracks in Michigan seem to be single layered... we talked about may going there in the summer.... So I have you to thank for opening my eyes to that cool area... but I'm not ready to see what I'm sure will be painful yet... maybe once the cleanup/rebuilding which (I hope) will happen, you can do a "feel good" piece on it... but I think right now it's too painful.

    Hey Adam!! The last time I was in Epcot I saw that same Santa and Mrs. Claus. They were waiting for Illuminations. 2 boys ran up to him screaming Santa Santa! He bent down as the kids hugged him and told him what they wanted for Christmas. It was so very cute!

    So ...I have the Sears and Robuck's catalog remake from 1900! Very cool. ...but that reminds me of my favorite thing I have lie that....I have a hand written book/journal/ledger from a "convenient" type store here in MA from 1903! It is so cool to see the types of things people purchased back then and how much things cost. I.e potatoes for 12 cents. That would be there only purchase.

    Adam! in simple terms, 93 octane premium gas is more difficult to explode. Its needed in performance engines when there's more pressure and heat, and you only want to gas to explode at the right moment. In a regular normal car, anything above 87 octane is completely pointless.

  • @Buck1954
    @Buck1954 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, there is a difference in those gasoline grades. There is the Super Grade and Unleaded grade. The middle grade is a mixture blended at the dispenser from the Super and unleaded grade. In the old days, they actually made a middle grade, but discovered that it was more economic to mix the grade on site and store more unleaded, with a smaller quantity of Super. Speaking of fuel, at 6:30, that is an old underground fuel tank that is no longer compliant on its way to the scrape yard. The fuel contaminants will be removed and disposed of per Federal law. You'd be surprised how many tanks are just rusted holes in the ground. Double wall tanks are now required with sniffers between the walls to detect leakage. Now, Adam, you have had a daily lesson on gasoline

    The mid-grade gas is just a mixture of the high octane and low octane fuels. They don't actually manufacture it that way. Both our cars "require" high octane, but they'll run just fine on any level, at least short term. But for caution's sake, I try to keep them gassed up with the recommended fuel.

  • @rchambers5488
    @rchambers5488 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Adam.. thanks for considering Gatlinburg..and considering if it is appropriate. I would ask the folks up there if they would like you to go..or not. Blessings Adam. Each day is a gift!

  • @dieselscience
    @dieselscience 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Opening question: "YES, _HOWEVER"_ if you follow your car's manual you're fine. ALSO, engines designed to run on 87 octane will not have any noticeable improvement on high octane fuel. I have a car with the words "Premium fuel ONLY" on the fuel gauge and "91+" on the fuel cap so I do use high octane.

    OMG...OMG...OMG...The Dolphin...
    Seriously...This is exactly what I was talking about a couple weeks ago...Your videos help unlock memories that were long forgotten. at 4,5,6 years old were the last times I really went vacationing...Ah the 90s...This past Thanksgiving I uncovered many photos of that old life, one of which had the front entrance to The Dolphin, which is where we stayed. So, boom. Memory bomb.
    again, Thank You for these videos.

  • @jtkirkfan2002
    @jtkirkfan2002 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    If your engine is tuned to need a higher grade of gas, you will see performance issues and experience things like run on and knocking if you use a lower grade. It will say in the owner's manual and at the gas cap if you need to use premium. 90% of the cars out there are tuned to run on regular and using the more expensive stuff is just wasting money.

  • @andypage9
    @andypage9 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The tank thing on the truck was in fact an underground fuel storage tank for a gas station. While we're at it, there are technically only two grades of gasoline, regular and premium. The "midgrade" actually draws a half and half mixture of the other two.

  • @holloweddarkness1
    @holloweddarkness1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fuel grades are not typically attributed with fuel mileage or whether they are better/worse for your engine. Usually, it comes to power output for performance vehicles. High-performance engines are specifically tunes for key air/fuel mixtures and a higher octane fuel in the right ratios of air/fuel can give you a drastic performance difference. In an average consumer vehicle, the car is going to automatically compensate for the safest mixture of air/fuel and gains will be marginal.

  • @allmightypuffn
    @allmightypuffn 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    @6:25, thats a underground storage tank from a gas station. 5000 gallons i think, usually 3 or 4 of them, 3 for gas, 1 for diesel if the station sells it, sometime kerosene also if your in the right aread of the country, which is typically a wooded mountainous area, such as the smoky's or the poconos

    i live in Knoxville, and that fire did NOT destroy any businesses downtown or through the strip. It got a few places up 321 and mostly homes up the hillsides and on the outskirts of the parkway. I work up there on Thursdays, and a lot of people who have came in already have said they thought it was much worse. Dont get me wrong; people lost homes, property, and lives, but its not what the news played it up to be. Just an example of their exaggeration.

  • @speedwayaudio3
    @speedwayaudio3 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes there is a difference in gas, but it depends on your vehicle. If you have a high compression engine then you do need high octane fuel. If you don't then 87 is fine.

    Here's a Disney tip, lets say you're at the EPCOT World Showcase and you're tired but you have to walk all the way to the front of the park to catch the bus back to your on site hotel but you just don't feel like it. Instead head to the International Gate between France and England and hop on the boat. It goes to the Swan, Dolphin and then to the Disney Studios, which is a short walk to the bus stops. Or if you have a park hopper pass and want to catch Fantastic you can take this short cut too.

    once upon a time, with old-fashioned carburetors, big engines would make knocking or pinging sounds with lower-octane gas. high-octane reduced or eliminated knocks and pings. but today most cars have fuel injectors and octane level is irrelevant. and higher octane gas does NOT increase your miles-per-gallon

    As an Aussie, who has NEVER been to Disneyland-ANYthing yet.. YET.. I love your vids Adam. I live vicariously through you til the day I can finally afford to wing across the great Pacific and spend two weeks doing NOTHING BUT DISNEY in the great US of A.

    that monorail factoid is a myth. that was never intended to be open. it looks like it would be but unfortunately Disney world lost the best opportunity to expand the monorail when it was less expensive.

    I live locally and you can't even get into the Gatlinburg area right now anyway. Unless you are an emergency worker or have a State ID..no. They are still searching through the destruction and some areas still have hot spots. It's going to be a long time.
    Just curious if your friend (Michael I believe that was in your videos several months ago) and his family made it out safely? Other friends?
    Thank you for your videos!

    Please come back to Tennessee! You should be able to visit in a day or two. They've started letting people back in. I don't know about tourists yet.
