One time I went out with a guy who was a professional tennis coach at a large resort near where I live. A friend of mine set us up, and yes, he was very good looking. As we were talking at dinner he turned to me and said, "I'm actually having a really nice time. This is a nice change for me. I'm used to dating women who are very attractive. That's usually my type." I looked at the guy and responded, "I totally understand what you are saying and this is a nice change for me as well. I'm used to dating guys who are really intelligent and have very intellectual jobs. That's usually my type. I don't know where that response came from or how I came up with it so quickly, but I was super proud of myself. Needless to say, that was our last date.

One time the guy I talk to told me I’m a little fat. I said, well you’re a little short but you’ve never heard me bring that up.

18 going out and some older guy, it old him many times I wasn’t his doll! He starting to harass me. Still going on being his doll, so I kicked right where he didn’t like it because he grabbed me. So I was at the place where I was regular and the doorman big felleas picked him up threw him out and told him don’t ever to mess with me again. Strangely I wasn’t hit on after that 😂. The doorman told me to be careful because he’s a nutcase that was trying to hit on younger girls to have them beating them up and hard to get away. I saw him again when leaving he followed me so I went up and told him if he wanted to keep his balls to leave me alone because I was used to narcissistic man and I ate them as breakfast and won’t bother to put my knife there. My friend was looking for a cop that drove around he flagged them down that dude went in prison because they found out he was drugging girls up.

      Nice! Isn’t that so satisfying.
A time I can recall having a good response in the moment was when I was waiting tables a million years ago and a guy told me to come sit on his lap and “ we would talk about the first thing that popped up” … I told him I wasn’t into “ small “ talk.

One time my husband and I went to a restaurant and I ordered the nachos. When the waitress asked if I wanted the small or large I said large. My husband said "no, she'll take the small". The waitress looked at him like she couldn't believe what a jerk he was. After she walked away he said that he noticed the table next to us got a large and it could have easily fed at least 3 people. He was absolutely correct, I would have never been able to eat that much. When he asked why I was giggling I told him that the waitress probably thought he was fat shaming me. I'm pretty average sized. He was so embarrassed that he felt in necessary to explain himself to the waitress when she came back with the food.

The *ONLY* time a guy made a disparaging comment about my weight on a date I got straight up and left immediately, didn't say goodbye, didn't pay the check, just picked up my purse and walked straight out, got in my car, went home, and blocked his number. I have neither the time nor the inclination to deal with that sort of bullshit. That's why when I was dating I insisted on driving myself to my dates, cause you'll never know when you'll need to leave. You owe your date *NOTHING* not even your presence. My husband has never been anything other than complementary towards my appearance.

@@julvwildcat190 Sometimes when people are treated poorly they begin to believe that's what they deserve. It's possible that she thought he was "out of her league" because of her own self esteem issues, and he worked hard to reinforce that belief in her.
As a child I watched my mother be positively beaten down in an abusive relationship for years, to the point where she convinced herself that she deserved it. After seeing that I knew I would much rather be alone than to ever be with someone who treated me poorly. Because I had experience with abusive situations I knew how to recognize the red flags quickly, a lot of people don't see those red flags until it's too late and they're already emotionally invested. Also abusers are *very* good at hiding their true colors and getting you to doubt your own reality. • @Jaxmusicgal23
      @Jaxmusicgal23 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +75

Yeah. We have to stop acting like we’re special snowflakes that Our boyfriend/husbands Think we are the most prettiest in the world.
First of all that doesn’t last long and you get older.
Second, unless he is a 10!himself, He isn’t getting with the hottest girl in the world.
Third, there’s more attractiveness than Your looks. You could be the prettiest girl in the world and it makes you ugly because you’re a nasty person.
She said her self up to be disappointed with that question, because no matter how he answered that she was going to be upset.
I learned myself pretty early, and I’ve taught my children: Never think you are the absolute best always add something whether it’s looks or a talent. Even if you are the best now, it’s some thing, we get older, and our abilities get worse. Someone will end up being better than you or someone on that being better than you before that because you weren’t the best you just thought you were.
Better to do your best and let that be enough.
The same goes for attractiveness. Are there prettier girls out there? Probably and possibly. Again, unless your man is a high stakes number 10 in looks Department, You aren’t a 10.
That is OK. If you’re six and above, you should be happy because you’re pretty enough to have most men notice you, even some really good men That was just As attractive as you are.
I’m not saying It’s not reach for the best you can get, but by golly, we need to understand Men better
Men can recognize a really attractive woman. I noticed that she’s one of the most beautiful minute ever seen, but understands he’ll never be with her. Don’t set your man up to be disappointing you or feel tricked into not knowing which answer is best.
If he’s with you, he wants to be with you and you should want to be with him if he’s a decent enough human being. Don’t cause problems by asking stupid questions that have tricky answers.

It shows her age and insecurity that she would get upset at his answer. She isn’t the prettiest girl in the world (and she probably knows it - even someone who is really gorgeous can think someone else is prettier, because we always tend to compare ourselves) but she also doesn’t need to be, because relationships are about a lot more than looks. He’s not saying he wants to be with “the prettiest girl in the world” or that his girlfriend is not pretty, in fact he did choose his girlfriend over the hypocritical pretty girl, so clearly he is happy and in love. Those hypocritical trick questions are silly because the whole point is to trick someone. Don’t do that.

To think that your girlfriend is the prettiest girl in the world, possible. Then ask your girlfriend if she thinks she is the prettiest girl in the world, you might get a different answer. Possibly an objective answer of no.
If she doesn't wear makeup to make her feel pretty then the answer is probably no.
Also does she think she is prettier than ALL celebrities or models of the world.

I was engaged to a man who kept trying to make me lose weight. Once, we were at a dinner at someone's house and as I was eating, literally putting food in my mouth, he put his hand on my fork and said, "Don't you think you've had enough? ". I was mortified. I was a size 12/13 (US sizing) at the time so I wasn't skinny but I wasn't huge either. It was quite a different take on body image than when she was talking about it in the 90s during the "heroin chic" era. Especially with my aunt there talking about the "diet" the ballerinas were taught in the 70s. She said coffee and cigarettes but we all know the late 70s was all about the cocaine 😅. I came out of it all figuring humans are meant to be all different sizes and are meant to change in many ways over our lives. As a woman, I solely use pads due to the fact that wearing tampons or period cups (or anything that goes up and in down south) makes me uncomfortable. BUT, I do know what L, R, and S represent on tampons. L is for a light flow, R is regular, and S is for super. For simplicity, it’s light, medium, and heavy flows.
For pads, it’s the same thing. The size is based on the flow. Sizes are numerical, and range from 2 to 5. Pads come with and without wings. And FYI, you can also buy thicker pads for absorbancy.
Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk ❤

    • @m0t0b33
      @m0t0b33 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

They're different in each country... for example, in my country, the Tampax can only be found in packs of 16, and they each have 2 drops for light flow, 3 drops for regular or 4 for super... and I think there's a "super plus" version of 5 drops, but I haven't seen it in quite a while. The 4 drop version is great for heavy flow and you can comfortably sleep through the night ( with a pad for extra piece of mind), 8h of uninterrupted sleep. As for the pad thickness, not very accurate here, since those are the lowest quality in my neck of the woods, because they bunch up and then you're left with "blind spots" that link straight to your undies.

I so love the guy who chose “kiss you for $1000.” What a gem. 😂😂 Poor man was convinced he’d answered correctly and then he realize he’d been duped. His reaction was hysterical. 😂😂😂
And I disagree. That was absolutely a trick question, and I think you can understand that your partner is not objectively the “prettiest person in the world,” and still think they are the prettiest, most shining, most special person to you personally. We love the faces of the people we love more than we love the faces of beautiful strangers because true beauty is soul-deep. But that doesn’t mean we are all gorgeous models.
I’d much rather be told “I value you more than money,” than to hear an insincere, “But you’re the prettiest person in the world!” Because -by definition- only a small percentage of people are the prettiest in the world, and I don’t think it’s insecure of me to say I’m not at that level of pretty.

Also, even if he thought she was the prettiest woman in the world, the parameters of the hypothetical specified the existence of someone prettier. By analogy, if your girlfriend asks you, "Would you fight a dragon for me?" answering "Dragons don't exist so the question is meaningless" just comes across as obnoxious and evasive. And if you answer "Yes," and your girlfriend mocks you for "believing in dragons," that's just your girlfriend being toxic (unless it's genuine lighthearted banter that's a part of your relationship). The whole point of a hypothetical question is that it involves circumstances that don't exist (there's also no one who's going to pay you $100,000 to kiss someone, unless you count acting), so people aren't expected to point that out instead of answering.

Naomi, it’s funny that you share that story. I just took a family friend to a doctor’s appointment this morning for some female issues. She is a 68 year old lesbian and was wondering why she needed an exam of THAT type since she hasn’t been with a man since her youngest was born over 35 years ago. I had to explain that other things can happen and so it’s a good idea to keep regular gyno visits even though she is menopausal, gay, and hasn’t been with a man in so long. She shared with me why she was going for the exam (which I won’t share here cuz it ain’t my story and would take too long) and said she was worried about needing a hysterectomy. She literally asked me if she could still have sex. I was surprised by her question but kept it out of my voice when I reassured her that she would still be able to carry on an active and fulfilling s e X life even if that was required. So we can all experience not knowing or “irrational fears” even if we are supposed to be the experts. 😉

Tons of info that I never learned in sex ed, health, or biology in school.

My husband's version of the speaker prank: In December he transferred out to a different location in the hospital system. The rest of his department was really sad to see him go...he is the person who always cracks jokes, makes everyone laugh, lightens tension...plus he has been there forever and is good at what he does. So, one of the things he is known for is making a very convincing bird sound, which he'll often do while walking down the halls, making people freak out and look around for the bird. Before he left he worked a weekend shift, meaning it was just him in the office. He bought one of those clocks that has a different bird chirp every hour. Of course he didn't set it for the hour....that would be a giveaway. Instead, he set the clock ahead so that it would go off 35 minutes after the hour every hour. Then, he hid it on some shelving behind a bunch of stuff. (He was going to hide it in the ceiling tiles but found it it works on a light sensor.) Cue his first day at the new location. At 9:35 he starts getting texts "WHAT DID YOU DO, MICHAEL?" They've realized it's gone off twice now, know he did SOMETHING, but don't know what. It takes a few hours, but they finally pick up on the fact that it goes off at one hour intervals. At 2:35, they all convene in the office, close the doors and become silent. (They've alerted him to this plan, so of course he starts calling the phones, but they ignore him.) As soon as it goes off they immediately start searching and find it. And then? They REHIDE it because two people weren't there that day. It takes those two a full day and a half to discover it. It's been just over a month now and he took some shifts back there the other week. The clock is still in the office, chirping merrily away every hour at 35 minutes past the hour.

While I was in highschool, every Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, she would pay me and my sister $10 an hour to help her set up the inflatables and deck out her house in lights and other holiday decor, and then to take them down after the holiday.

We have friends/neighbors who had a fun contest with us for decorating yearly; it got so competitive that our homes were included on the lights tour our city did. About a decade ago our neighbors decided to include inflatables in the equation, and they were super cute. But our neighbor knew from his brother who lived in a major metro area that apparently these things are prime targets for vandalism, and so he installed incredibly accurate security to protect his investments. Sadly it took less than a week before three asshats stabbed an inflatable. Armed with footage he called police and the culprits were *easily* identified and charged. When it came to court, he and his wife were in attendance and the punks were all charged the same day. Our friends asked the judge if, rather than sentencing them to something that likely has little to no impact on them, he could suggest an idea. Judge loved it and the delinquents were given their punishment of assisting with the installation and tear down of all decorations for one year for both our homes, and delivery of the canned goods collection we took up as a ‘charge’ to people coming to see the decor to the shelter, as well as assisting us at the shelter during the holidays with serving food, cleaning, laundry, etc.
These 3 boys are now men; 2 have married & have little ones, one is pursuing an advanced degree, all 3 have good careers and come help us set up and tear down every year to this day because they all want to. They’re all 3 really great guys and took the lesson and used it to learn. Couldn’t be happier for them.

Especially when the question frames the girlfriend and the 'prettiest girl' as seperate individuals. using pads over tampons is not a matter of how heavy your flow is, some women have really heavy flows but prefer pads over tampons because tampons are really irritating and can dry out your vagina more and cause infections. and some prefer pads cause of religious purposes, so i really dont think we should be judging people for using whatever they're comfortable with.

Once the issue got resolved, my heavy flow ended up heavier than before (I'm fine, just have a slightly different normal now), so I decided to try tampons for the first time. Here’s a horror story for you Charlotte that’s only related to the first clip and when u mentioned diva cups.
I don’t use tampons bc for some reason I get some kind of allergic reaction. I’ve tried different brands, different materials they’re just not for me.
So I started using a diva cup and it was just fantastic. Until one day I went to remove it and it’s little “tail” snapped off. I couldn’t get a hold of the base of it and there was now no tail to pull it out.
I ended up going to the urgent care room at my doctor and said “I need whoever is available and willing to fish around in there I don’t care if they’re male or female let’s do this”
The only doctor available was this 70 year old Albanian guy and he listened to the problem, there was a nurse that acts as a chaperone because I’m female the doctors male it’s just protocol, she understood what the task at hand was.
He pulled out a clear plastic speculum that was horribly made and cut me upon insertion.
He then looked up at me and said “I don’t see the string”
I looked at my friend who came with me like “is this guy serious?”
The nurse had to stop the procedure and explain what a diva cup is, how you remove it and why I needed help.
He had listened to the front desk nurses tell him what he was doing, he had his chaperone nurse tall him what he was doing, I had explained again when he came in the room, and he did not understand that it was not a tampon until he was elbow deep and and had to be stopped to have it explained a 4th time.
Never again am I walking into a medical facility and saying “I don’t care if male or female give me who’s available” bc apparently even some doctors are just clueless men when it comes to feminine hygiene.

For the "kiss the prettiest girl" question. She didn't ask if he'd rather kiss her or who HE thought was the prettiest girl in the world. She just said her or the prettiest girl in the world. For starters, beauty is subjective so it would be impossible to pick the most beautiful. That aside, if she can't fathom that there might be other women out there more beautiful than her, then she needs a serious ego check. Your partner can think you're the prettiest, sure. But even if they don't, because they know rationally there are other more beautiful people out there, they still chose you, they appreciate your beauty AND what you contribute to the relationship. Beauty is only skin deep.

I started wearing tampons in high school after overhearing a bunch of guys talking about the seven step rule and what they could see. We had to wear uniforms at my high school, girls had to wear a 10 pleat skirt. The seven step rule was that if a guy was behind a girl more than 7 steps on the stairwell they could see your underwear. I heard one guy mention he could see a pad and the other guys were grossed out and said a lot of horrible stuff about the girls in my school. I wore shorts under my skirt after that.

I'm just proud of any man thats willing to even talk about periods just in general, but especially if they're willing to contribute (ie: buying feminine products, cravings, and respecting their womans physical and emotional needs). There are literally grown ass men who are married, with biological children, who still believe women can turn their period on and off like a light switch. One of my exes had zero experience when we started dating. Like, had never so much as asked a girl out or held hands, etc, level zero. The first time I was on my period after we started dating, he ASKED me to take him to the store and show him what products I used so he would know where they were in the store and what to buy if he ever needed to get me products. I still miss that one. He was very attentive to my emotional needs, but we just had very different life goals, and it started tearing us apart, so we decided to split while we could still be friendly. By far, the healthiest relationship I've ever been in and we still talk on occasion.

Perfect example of why more girls and women should give the quiet guys or guys with less dating experience a chance.
My husband is the quiet type with little dating experience before we met. Discovered early on in dating that he was going back to school so he could work in healthcare. Part of his early education was to first work as a CNA where he did things like help bathe elderly people with mobility issues. He now has two certifications (not counting the CNA, which is now expired), and he’s seen some pretty scary things. Now, he doesn’t flinch at a used tampon in the trash. Well… he never did. He also has a handful of sisters.

I use pads bc I cannot forget them, can _see_ when they need changing, they don't put me at risk of TSS, & I just find them more comfortable (25-odd years of intermittent attempts in every position + using lube, & I _still_ can't find that mythic placement where you supposedly cannot feel it to a distracting degree; IDK, maybe I have a tilted canal or something); I only employ tampons if I'm swimming or taking a bath.

I’ve never used tampons in my life and kind of don’t understand how they could possibly stop those massive golf-ball sized clots that come out. The cotton can only absorb the blood, not the clots, (like with pads)so what happens to those clots? Do they just get plugged by the tampon, but not absorbed, so they all come flying out at once when you pull the tampon out? Also, what if you think your flow will be heavier than it is, but then it’s actually not, so you have a mostly dry tampon coming out? Doesn’t that hurt?
That’s just one of the reasons I’ve never used them. The other reason is that I get squeamish thinking about shoving a foreign object into my body and not being able to feel it. Like if something is in my body like that, I wanna be able to feel where it is. I don’t want this piece of cotton just inside me and not know exactly where it is at all times. Does that not freak other people out? Plus, the thought of the string breaking and having to reach up their and fish it out makes me want to gag lol. If anything’s going in there that far it better be attached to something much stronger than a flimsy little string. 🤣

I won't lie, if I walked into a hotel room and saw my boyfriend had gotten send nudes written on the bed, I'd find it fricken hilarious 😂can't just be me, surely. The only other thing on my mind would be "YOU MADE SOMEBODY DO THIS!?" with a smidge of second hand embarrassment HAHA

I was an addict for 16 years. Was 5'4 110 at 36 (had 2 kids) then got Clean and was 135 after being 3 years clean. Went on a date with someone who knew me from my drug dys and his comment was " I know ppl gain when getting clean but you don't have to go obese" that comment ALMOST made me go ba k to the drugs thankfully I was proud enough of my accomplishment not to... but men..... watch WHT you say!!! Could be life or death you don't know the situation that woman is in

135 is still thin and that was so uncalled for regardless of how you looked or what you weighed! I can’t believe people.

Obese??? 135 is FARRR from obese. His head is SO far up his bum! That's a nice healthy weight with zero issues.

Pre-hysterectomy, I was a pad girlie bc nothing else would contain the blood. 😅 I had to upgrade to number 5 & 6 pads. (Thanks, endometriosis!) They're often recommend for post partum bleeding. SO much better than the typical Always Overnight pads- no more waking up to a crime scene!

I have endometriosis too, and have to use both, and still sometimes set an alarm halfway through the night so I don't ruin the bed. I have a big patch taped over the vulnerable part of my mattress too, in case I sleep through. Nightmare.

@@UsandEveryoneWeKnow Ugh, I'm so sorry. I used to do that too (although I usually would just steal a clean one of my dog's puppy pads bc the human ones are expensive). It's just the worst. Washable waterproof liners for the mattress were kind of a lifesaver. (Like, the square cloth ones) I hope you're able to find relief, whatever treatment you're pursuing! I hope your doctor is taking you seriously too- that kind of bleeding requires serious iron supplements!

I'm a pad girl because I have a genuine phobia of any kind of penetration. I physically can't bring myself to put anything up there and any depiction of- giggity- makes me squeamish and cry. I've never even had a partner or any such interaction, just the thought of it scares me too much.
