    Your channel is one of the few that not only shows the successes, but also the failures. That might not make everyone happy but that is honest farming. You take the good with the bad and vice versa.

    Don't blame yourself for trying to help an animal, you try and sometimes fail, sometimes succeed. If you did not do your best your farm would not exist. I love your videos about the animals and the kids, looking forward to seeing the adult white peacocks and the new huge bird enclosure.

      @@whitehouseonthehill the only reason why you lose bee hives is the fact you have no knowledge about beekeeping,you are doing everything wrong starting from hives if you have dead hive remove all comb and put new wax and then instal bees,second don't use plastic foundations because i see in videos that they make half frame wax and on the corners nothing,next thing don't paint inside hive,don't buy bee queens which have paint all over their body because there is big chanse she will die,don't open very bees often,don't add second box if there is no at least 5 frames of brood and by that i mean more than half of frame,do treatment for varroa mite,bees can die even if they have honey in hive because if it is cold they can't move towards honey and they eventually die to help them put brood in centre and around honey frames,and during winter add sugar patty it will be like bridge for them to honey frames and it will keep bee cluster thight,in october add paper or any material that keep warmth,expand brood by adding empty frame to brood frame in the end of march and im may you can put frame in centre of brood the reason you do this is that in spring qeens lay a lot of eggs and you make space for her to lay more brood you repeat this as soon as queen lay entire frame,in may you will have strong hives and lot of swarms, i recommend you to use lr hive because it's the best hive for beekeeping,make swarms as soon as you have queen cells take 2 frames of brood and queen and 1 frame of honey and put that in new box,in the hive you take that from leave queen cells and they will make new queen very fast ,in august give them sugar water in ratio 1:1 ,this will stimulate queen to lay more winter bees and with a lot of bees they will easier survive,give them 1 liter every 2 days for 2 weeks,
      another mistake is bees can't always make their own queen it depends from season it takes 1 month for queen to start laying and sometimes it is to long because hive gets weaker,if you don't apply this advices and if you don't find good beekeper to teach you,you will always lose hives and they will always die,don't understand this as hate thought i tell you this to improve your skills about bees and to stop buying every year swarms but you will be able to sell them greetings from Europe

    I raise Mottle Houdans. Slipped tendons used to be a huge problem for me. First off, don't blame yourself. You tried to do what you felt was right. We who raise birds have to make these decisions all the time. Sometimes we are successful and other times, sadly, we are not. In my experience, I have dealt with slipped tendons and have researched it. There are many things that can cause the condition. Treated it, personally I have had a few successes in hatched chicks, within 48 hours, but never in older chicks. Often older birds, the stress of being immobilized causes them to die. Sometimes keeping them in a darken carrier can help. Your chick might have lived if untreated but even that is hard to say. I've kept birds since I was 11 and I'm 57. I have only had a few birds have any sort of life with just one leg. The ones I had needed special care and could only be kept within a flock with non aggressive birds and in a covered run to protect them. Most older birds I had gave up walking which then causes the tendon to wither, shrink and often I have had to make the decision of euthanizing as their quality of life became poor.
    No one should put you down because you tried and did your best. So don't put yourself down. Take what you learned and that will make you the wiser the next time. Peace.

    Jake - I’m grateful for your transparent nature about how things really go working with animals. You sharing how this all unfolded with Little One Leg helps others to decide for themselves in their own animal management if they want to intercept early or simply let the animal navigate the Challenge (whatever it is) naturally. Large and small farm owners walk through these paths daily and you and Becky run a wonderful operation. And so sorry you’ve got people who are so mean sending you comments. I think the big eater kitty should be named Chunk 😆 and the white one with grey on her face and side looks just like a sweet kitty we had named Luna (we lost her to fly strike 🙁 ) So I think Luna would be a great name for that one 🥰

    Just an FYI for both you and viewers, cats should NOT be separated from mom until at least 8 weeks for best chances of success. With it being kitten season, if you have a litter please wait until they are 8 weeks old before finding them new homes. It's so much better for both the kitten and momma ❤
    Edit to add: based on the video they do look close to 7-8 weeks old based on their size!

    • @SilentSaver
      @SilentSaver 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just an FYI, they're on solid foods and they're perfectly fine to be away from mom. Mom is probably so happy to not deal with them anymore. Same goes for puppies. Some professional dog breeders and professional trainers (Shield K9 for one example) even say their better dogs they've had they received at 6-7 weeks or bottle fed.

    • @Eva.R
      @Eva.R 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SilentSaver Kittens separated from their moms too early are at higher risk for developmental, social, and health issues. Just because it turned out ok for some doesn't mean it's a good idea. The mom has a purpose, if in nature she and her babies stay together for longer, that's for a reason, the mom has to teach skills, including social skills to her kittens

One chick in specific didn't hatch although it was fully developed. I broke open the egg and the chick had a huge, abnormal lump on its head that I suspected was the cause of death. Weird deformations happen and it has nothing to do with you or the way you raised/incubated/cared for it, so don't blame yourself for this.

    Please don't blame your self you did your best and I believe from every death you save another from what you learn... I have a small bird rescue and I learn so much from every bird I loose. I breed rare chickens I'm a small Breeder, but I once had the same problem with a chick, I left her as long as I could it got too painful for her, we ended up putting her down at vets but I learnt heaps from her.
    You have an amazing channel keep it up

    Its clear that you love your animals - Im sorry about your pea-chick with the bad leg. I think its great that you give your children the chance to grow up with animals.

    I really appreciate you showing both the good and the bad. I hatched out some eggs a few months ago and one chick had a severely curled foot and extra toe (absolutely no genetic similarity between parents). I've watched so many videos and tried to fix this poor chick's foot for weeks, but nothing has straightened it out completely. It's still alive and will have a good life, but sometimes there's nothing you can do. You just try, hope, and learn from your mistakes.

    I am very sorry for your loss. I am late to this as I just stumbled upon your channel.
    I once had a chick who got injured after a stray cat attacked him. I scared the cat away. He couldn't stand up on both legs. I used antibiotic ointment for his injured leg and while applying, I massaged it with light hands. I also continued to help him with the movement exercise. I followed this routine of ointment and 'physical therapy' till he healed and started to walk and eventually run on both legs. I continued to pet him, and monitoring his behavior helped me a lot.
    Also, if I may, when you are treating little chicks, keep a few more (or a hen) around them to keep them company, this might help them relax. You can also set a timeline for yourself that if you don't see the results you are looking for, then it's time to seek help. You get to ask the veterinarian lots of questions and learn a lot more useful information for future. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. I will also miss little one leg, as this was my first time watching white peacock chicks hatch.
    Thank you very much for sharing your and your family's lives with us. I wish all of you all the best. I can't wait to see all the animals and birds grow up 🥰

    People who are complaining have two options imo. 1- just don’t watch. 2- grow your own animals and treat them the “right” way. This man right here is an honest and compassionate man. He does his best to the best of his knowledge and ability. When you subbed to his channel you knew that, so what are you complaining about now?
    Keep doing what you’re doing brother. God bless you and your beautiful family.

    I’ve previously had ducklings and partridge with slipped tendons, those that have had 1 never made it past roughly 6 weeks, as they got more immobilised being unable to balance and move correctly whilst causing stress on other joints and muscles. Those with slipped tendons on both legs often lived longer but never to full maturity

    Sorry to hear about your pea chick, RIP Lol. It is very clear you tried everything you could. Don't give yourself a hard time and don't listen to the negative comments, the viewers leaving them are not qualified vets or experts. I think you are fantastic and i can see how much you truly love your birds (which is the key ingredient to the best care and quality of life possible). They are very lucky to have you guys ❤

    Sorry about Little One Leg. Don't beat yourself up about it. You tried what you could. Sometimes it doesn't work out and the results can be heartbreaking but the fact that you were trying to help him/her was heartwarming. Thank you for trying to help the little guy but I think it was already stressed out to begin with from the injury and even the best vet would have had a terrible time trying to heal a tiny little bird leg like that. Thank you for helping him though. Also I'm really sorry to hear about the cats. 😿

    People shouldn’t say anything about hatching birds out if they themselves have never done it! But unfortunately sometimes chicks hatch with issues like splay leg, slipped tendon, cross beak and it sucks but it’s out of your control and all you can do is what you did but next time just go with your gut because it’s usually right.
    I swear white peacocks look like angels when they get full grown and spread their tail feathers.
