In the USA we are allowed to carry knives for self defense. I'm also glad to announce my state just passed constitutional carry. What pistol do you pair with this knife when you carry
100% agree with you!!!…I don’t like the name and would consider spray painting the knife, but even then I don’t know if that would be enough. MSK 2.5 may a better way to go in regards to “optics” for defense
I still think one of the best options for an edc fixed blade for defensive purposes is a good quality punch dagger. Small, easy to carry, intuitive and plenty of rage placed in the non dominant hand and used like a boxing jab. Will work as a tool in a pinch but a great option for last ditch self defence if you have a bit of striking training. As an ex boxer I really love them.
@@theedcden5515 Look into Muay Thai. Not only do you learn to strike with six more limbs (feet, knees, & elbows) you learn to fight in the clinch (known as dirty boxing) which is where fights, robberies, & rapes happen. Combine that muay thai with some grappling like wrestling & BJJ and you can do a lot to save your life in a short time. This applies to people that also carry a firearm as grappling is always handy when you withing arms reach of an attacker. Look at Chris Douglas & Shivworks.
My wife carries a folder, & a handgun. the folder is a versatile tool for everyday life, & can be used to create distance when grappling with an attacker to draw the handgun. However, she has been training Muay Thai for over three years, & I was just considering a good punch dagger as her go-to backup knife as like you said it is more instinctive if you can box. A karambit can also apply here though slightly different. It seems that the best push daggers are the ones where the blade isn't very long (2") and comes out from between the first & second knuckle. Also the T-shaped ones seem to want to turn in your hand vs the more L shaped ones that allow you a full grip on the handle is much more secure when striking. As you mentioned just pooping a jab works well, but let's not forget hooks, uppercuts, shovel hooks, overhands, & even a slashing hammer fist can all be utilized devastatingly especially when grappling which should be about the only time you get in a knife fight. The element of surprise when drawing a concealed knife in a scuffle is a much better idea than drawing a knife yards away & waving it around.
I agree. Unfortunately push daggers are illegal in my state.. However, Fox knives looks like they found a way around the legal issue.. They have a push dagger that's only sharp on the one side. So technically it's not a dagger..
Ferrum forge lackey is a good one too. 3" (sub) blade, flat, and comes in 9cr (unsure about that) and D2 which I like. Could have a thicker handle, but it's good
The Street Scalpel is a great looking knife. I came close to buying it, but it just looks a little too aggressive for me to carry in public. I might still get it later on to carry when I go camping as a secondary camp knife. The Street Scalpel looks like it would be great for fishing, skinning, and other applications, but I think it just looks like it was made for combat. I think that if a police officer saw me carrying one of those I would have to answer how I intended to use it. All that aside, It looks awesome!
Totally agree buddy! It’s a very nice knife to handle and fun to carry - but that name.. 😓 Good call on using it as a camp knife..you’d never run into issues that way 👍 And it comes with awesome belt carry straps for the kydex sheath that I forgot to show! Thanks for the comment and have a great Sunday!
“...have to answer...” This is a false belief. Never answer police questions unless you want to incriminate yourself and assist the officer in his investigation against you. @@allemander The train cops to circumvent your constitutional rights. This should be illegal. Yet here we are in the land of fake freedoms and fake news!
I completely agree with you re; the name? Street Scalpel 2? When you’re trying to explain to the police officer that you only use the ‘Street Scalpel’ to cut up apples with your lunch? I know what he’d say, A but of an ‘overkill’ isn’t it? Especially when the onus is on me to show and prove almost, an innocuous and normal reason for carrying the ‘Street scalpel’. Hopefully, the officer will own one himself and enjoy eating his fruit with it as I do, but! I win’t hold my breath. A great little knife though, I am looking at the Benchmade Flyway too, as a knife to deal with small game. It’s between these two knives for me. I want the better not the cheaper. Which do I choose?
I have 8 Tops knives and love them all. I agree with you on Tops silly aggressive names on some of the products. I live in the UK where we have very strict knife laws, I would love this knife but the name really puts me off. It would be a great craft knife but it’s name shouts weapon. Great review though.
Hey Tony, thanks for watching and commenting 👍 I’m really liking the look of the Tops Lion’s Toothpick..another “interesting” name lol. Enjoy those blades my friend! 👍🤙
@@theedcden5515 that’s one I have also been looking at. A slim blade like that could have many uses including a steak knife, it’s name is not quite as aggressive. I think I will order one when it’s back in stock at Lamina.
@@theedcden5515 thank you for checking. I live in the UK and had a couple of knives from the US directly from Tops refused at customs as restricted items . Lamina is in Finland and they have sent me knives without a problem. However we have now left the European Union so that may have changed. I will drop them an email on Monday to see what they can do. I think the UK and Canada may have done a trade deal so that could be an option. It would be nice to have one for my birthday next week.
I absolutely agree about the name. One day the "tacticool" trend will hopefully give way to the "i just need to cut boxes at work" crowd. It seems like something I would LOVE if it weren't so unnecessarily thick.
A knife is a knife all depends on how you use it... but for the ones who want to cut boxes with “Tacticool” steel. Get a good box cutter, they’re way better for cutting boxes and such than defense blades.
@@theedcden5515 I checked there after seeing your recommendation. Everywhere has been out of stock for two years. I assume they stopped making them but I have never heard anyone say they stopped. You can sill find the first version some places.
The name is awesome. I would proudly tell an officer the names off all my knives or guns I carry and you should too! 😃
Name is part of the package. It does look like a scalpel. You could always spray paint over it if you don't like it.
Back in the day when the OG Street Scalpel was released, it was the Spokane Street Scalpel hence the model # being SSS07.
I like that street S2 it just looks like a handy cutting tool

Yup, good idea with the MSK 2.5 👍🤙
Really dig the MSK. 👍😊
You should shortly review all grips such as reverse…regardless of build intent it would be just cool to know.
This and the lions toothpick are my edcs only thing I switch up on is a great double edged krambit
😂

Torn between the MSK and Street Scalpel.
Intended use? Both fantastic knives..
Get both. It’s only a logical evolution. 🤪
Take the name off it if its important to you
