It's us who have to take the initiative and forge our own path, or in this case, save ourselves. If everything was destined, if G-d was just pulling our strings like puppets, then where is our free will? We have free will for a reason. Point is things could have turned out very differently had Joseph chose to act differently. Also there's a whole thing about forgiveness and family in the tale, but that's a whole other topic.

Joseph had his own palace, the egyptians built him a tomb which we found, it contained a statue of joseph (red hair blue eyes, and his coat of many colors). He saved egypt from famine, he did everything. The waterway he dug still exists and even to this day the locals still call it the waterway of joseph. He had some bad moments but so do we all.
