      I tried that and it didn't work out. Even after I had to stack them one on top of each other to make some shelfs. Now I am down to 4 heads, five 4x12 cabs a combo and 2 Yamaha THR10X for noodling around..LOL

      hey guys does anyone know how a 1960av 4x12 cabinet (g12 vintage 70 w speakers), i found a really good deal on (200 bucks), compare to his 25 w greenback 4x12? Im really unsure if i should buy it as some say you don't need a 4x12 and marshalls suck compared to mesa boogies. I'm looking to get a modern distorted sound that's kinda in between rock and metal.

    How great would it have been to have amps like this when I was 15-16 yrs old and first getting into playing.....Having all those different effects onboard would have made buying pedals totally unnecessary. I could have mowed three lawns and paid for this....lol. Offers a lot of features for little money. If you have $460 bucks burning a hole in your pocket, try this.....buy two 50 watt Katana mk2 combo amps....slave one to the other....then you have a true stereo setup. You can stack them or place them on either sides of the room. Delay and any sort of ping pong effect...flangers...etc...sound amazing. The controls for the primary amp drive the sound of the secondary amp so there is no need to mess with trying to match them up. If you're headed to band practice or a smaller gig.....just grab one of them and you are good to go.

    • @justinturner653
      @justinturner653 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Or get the 100w head, gafc pedal, and find a used cab. If you're good w/ tone editor you can end up with a show-ready halfstack for well under a grand, with channel switching rivaling rigs that could easily cost 3-4 grand...

    I feel like companies have been trying to make an easy to use, multiple amp model, multi fx, affordable amp for a long time.
    and the Katana is pretty much the first one to actually sound acceptable.
    Might have to get one of the smaller combos for my grab and go jam setup.

    • @rnegtr
      @rnegtr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, easy to do but there is the internal 5” speaker in there that is front facing - so it would only be an issue laying on it’s face if you wanted to use the internal speaker for practicing.

  • @randallsandmann2579

    If you feel the tone of the katana series is to “fizzy” as I do, there’s a very inexpensive fix... Harrison Fmods! Buy a 6k low pass Fmod and put it in the FX loop. It takes care of the fizz and doesn’t kill the highs! In my first gen katana artist, the loop is programmable per preset, so I just kick the loop off on the cleans, and all the sparkle is there! by the way, a set of 2 fmods will cost you less than 30 bucks! You’re welcome!

    You can have the eight presets by pressing the Panel switch like two seconds on tone settings for toggle between first four and next four presets.
    so without computer.
    same you can do with GA-FC pedal, which is must to have to use Katana on stage, unless you have midi pedal.

I've never heard anyone say it was more close to a Roland Jazz so now that makes a lot more sense! QUESTION: Can you run TWO Boss Katana 2x12 cabinets off of ONE Boss Katana MKII 100Watt head? Can you connect the two cabinets safely together and to the head via a y-split speaker cable? - i.e., a speaker cable Y-splitter out of the back of the head, with two speaker cables from the Y-splitter connected and one speaker cable to each cabinet. Is this a safe connection that will not harm the head or cabinet speakers; and, that will not void the Boss warranty on any of the units...?
    Given this is a solid state amp head, versus a tube amp, I would think the above described connection would work fine, as long as the Ohms impedances are within spec for the head and both cabinets combined...?
    Any help to understand this issue is greatly appreciated. I know the Katana MKII can run in stereo with two combo amps (one as a slave to the main). But,...I understand the question above is a different scenario than a master-slave stereo setup.

    • @_Chunk_
      @_Chunk_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DudeAbides! First the MK2 has a minimum requirement of 8ohms. Refer to ohms law to create the correct scenario. If you are using two cabs that are identical and each individual cabinets final impedance let’s say is 8ohm you should get an impedance of 16ohms in series. Parallel will create the opposite value at 4 ohms. The y splitter I would assume would only create a series connection. As far as it voiding the warranty I would speak with boss to clarify.

With the firmware upgrade I have 4 channels and love the effects you can dial in even without the app. It has a killer phaser and chorus if you ask me. That clean channel and brown channel just rock, and the power soak makes it so nice. I can practice at home in the liwest setting and go into 3rd and 5th harmonics by cranking the gain on the brown channel and holding a note. Also, there is a nice gate in the app and global eq.

All the chunky of '90 solid state amps plus the saggy of boutique tube amps! What I can say about KATANA MkII? I think twice about mky katana 100 Head! Mmm? Yeah that's it !!! Something more than perfection! Can 'U tell me something more about the settings of Eq or about the micing of the isocab? Thanks! Luca

    A Katana VST/AU plug-in - looking just like the editor software in the upper right corner of your video - would be great! Or perhaps a small desktop device like the HX Stomp. I don‘t need a real amp, but the sounds of the Katana seem to be really, really good.

    So what is the best speaker?? I like the katana speaker, and those greenbacks, and my 1936 cab but I don't like my 1912 cabs

    I got my son the Boss Katana 50 mk1 for his 18th birthday. His first amp, I am jealous how light it is and how good it sounds with the power scaling. I might get the mkII 100 head for a backup head and for lugging to rehearsal to not where out my main head. Pretty affordable. Curious how well the midi handles switching?

    Like to hear the Axe Fx III thru it and whether a Laney LF112 would be a better choice, both similar price

    Do you need a cabinet to use a head? I'm looking at the katana for a studio setup so size is important but I wanted the effects loop in the 100W series

      it has line out and headphone out so you can plug it straight into your studio setup, go "speakerless"

    I got this amp from guitar center few days ago and is ok on low or medium volume but when I crank it up for metal I just dont like the muddiness out of it also dont like the chorus effect sounds fake and cheap. I dont know if is my specific amp or is all of them that sound like that. Anyways I'm returning it and buying a Yamaha THR30ii

    Volume channel to MAX left ----and adjust Master volume right to your like ( ACCORDING to BOSS).
    Nobody in every katana video ever try those settings...why ? I would like to ear that since i dont own a katana myself.

    Hey Leon, I've been going back and forwards for quite a while about whether to get the Line 6 hx stomp or the boss katana 100 head. I would be mainly using it at home, as well as occaisional jam sessions and (hopefully) gigs. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as well as anyone else who has had experience with either.

      Another seldom mentioned feature of the Katana head is it's built in 5" speaker for quiet playing or even being able to mic the speaker without even using an external cabinet.

      William King that does seem like a very useful feature

    Maybe I'm gonna give my KEMPER and HELIX a kick and get myself this new BOSS Katana MKII...? What do you think?

      I am a kemper user and i am waiting my katana head to use IS poweramp live and a backup if there is any issue. The internal 5" speaker seems very cool to practice and composing without warming my 100w tube head!

    Great review. Question is whether katana 2 is worth the upgrade if you have a katana 1.
    Also perfect timing as Rock beato just put out a video on old high gain amps 5150 to Mesa dual recto.
    You can really hear how a true valve amp just has that organic pushing air type sound.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on what features you need really - IMO the clean variation sound is a big improvement and I dig the power amp voicing switch. Rick always pulls great tones, I bet he'd make this thing sound slamming in his studio.

    Would have liked to hear this direct to interface rather than cab and mic. I have been using helix direct to mixer and just not pleased. Got a 100 combo MK1 katana that I can dial decent tones in easy. Interested in MK2 head for smaller footprint.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's very similar to the MK1 direct - if you like that direct then this is smaller with a few extra amp and effect modes.
