The reason why those time caps failed was because the voltage that was charging them was higher than their rating. I have one of the later models that have it in a different place which works better. Realistically a person could put a diode in series with a button cell so it couldn't be charged in place of the cap with proper polarity. I think they assumed the console would be in use so much to negate the need for a battery.
The time cap never worked in my 1.0 system. Removing power for any amount of time, no matter how brief caused the clock to go out, so jus ripping the dang thing off the board made no change whatsoever (other than making the risk of leaks negated). My falcon 360 is pretty much the same. No power, no matter how short, and the clock's gone. Until the warnings about the cap on the original, I just assumed MS didn't put anything in to retain the clock in power outages/unpluggings.
For anyone using a large pre-loaded hard drive such as the "2TB origins" and does this method you've got to use a program call EVtool to modify the EvoX m8+ bios to be able to see the entire hard drive. Or else none of the games on the hard drive will read. Took me waaay too long to find this out! Looking for specific information about original xbox modding can be a major pain in the butt so i hope the message reaches someone with this issue. Also a big shoutout to MrMario for making these guides to begin with and making this process a much less painful one. I'm finally good to go.
Followed most of your guide and everything works! What I was blind on was formatting a new HD but you did a great job explaining everything. Thanks so much man
man I wish these xenium modchips were easier to find. I have a 1.6 that needed new caps and took it apart forever ago and cant find the hdd for it so I guess this is gonna be my path to making it live again. Good video and thanks for giving me an idea of how to do this. much appreciated. you the man!

Good video. I had someone else install my chip while they were upgrading my RAM, and it works fine. However, your information shows me how to add an extra BIOS, very useful. Thanks!
Update: I followed through your advice and it came out great! I removed the clock capacitor and did thermal paste too, by time anyone removes the board might as well. Installed it all into a pc case with a ton of rgb lol, now I just need to figure out how to get a atx power supply working with it. Thanks again for the fantastic walk through on this!
the funny thing is that I did you softmod process for one Xbox, and I am forever grateful for all the hard work you put in those videos (hands down, easiest process with the best host, and teacher, I mean, you LOVE your Xboxes it seems), but this one got me a little. I had been given a pre-modded Xbox with the Xenium chip (not the Open version). The HD was a stock drive. I used the option that said "Upgrade Drive" in the Xenium menu to upgrade to an IDE 750GB drive made by Seagate. Compatible. It worked, and I now have this drive hooked up, complete with the same menus you have. However, and I've been scouring your videos for this....I cannot for the LIFE of me get this system to recognize the rest of the space! It only recognizes, even with XBpartitioner1.3, a limited amount of space, around 126GB. Mr. Mario (my teacher in all things Xbox modding), do you have a video or a part of one of your videos that teaches how to address larger drives or how to restore the factory settings of the drive so we can start over, and do this right? I opened up a partition on F, and it seems to not care about me trying to access G, it won't happen, so I have a feeling this all has to do with how the drive was formatted in the beginning. Despite copying the older drive, it only copied, like you did, Partition C and E. So....the rest should have been available...and yet, it's not. I've already followed your directions, using a crossover cable to transfer over so much, but feel it's now better just to start over and create the right spacing for everything.
Few weeks after seeing this video found ogxbox on one store. It was 1.0 pal launch model that been on low use. Removed clock cap first then ordered that chip. Now just need replace fans, repaste cpu and gpu, resolder foxlink psu plug to prevent cold joint it was prone to and fire, install this modchip and then install 1tb sata hdd via adapter. Hey man just wanted to say thanks! I used your guide and I was able to install my modchip and set it up without to much hassle. :) However I did have to get the M8plus_16_67_CEF.bin instead of the default bios because I am using a 1tb HDD. The default version only reads in 32k clusters instead of 64k. Something I don't know if you know. Either way thanks again! My system is running smooth. Just need to install some games! :)

I noticed that you did NOT remove one of the PIN's from your PIN header, as you had done in the first example for systems with versions 1-5. Is there a reason for leaving all PIN's installed on the 1.6 example?
There's no need to remove any on the 1.6 since the LPC port is disabled, so at worst they can serve as extra anchor points. Functionality is enabled with the LPC rebuild.
Used this video to mod my own. The physical install went incredibly well, but for some reason hexen wouldn't boot so i had to manually install the dashboard.

Hey Mario, could you give me some advice on a flash? I've a v 1.4 console with an ST chip, so in Hexen I select TSOP Flash (Not Winbond), Flash 256K BIOS 1.0-1.5 and as a last step EvoX M8 plus F and G, select it, Flashing option comes up, so soldering worked, start the flashing, it does, then it reboots and after the xbox logo starts with the evox logo in the corner the console just freezes. Can't even boot into Hexen from dvd anymore or even start any original game. any advice?
Hello MrMario, I just bought myself a modded xbox original with a Fujitsu Duo X2 chip. I desolderd everything, thinking that I would startup my xbox like it was coming out of the box after it. Now it red rings and I can't boot it up. I also didn't took notes about where all the wires were soldered. And I can't find a proper guide on my chip to reassemble. Can you help?
Thanks for the Video! I am at the point of connecting my xbox using the web browser and it will not open (Site can't be reached) any idea what might be the issue? I have all the settings configed as you stated.
I just got my chip installed properly, but I couldn't get the IP address to connect. I hit restart network, but it just froze. When I restart the Xbox, the Xenium page pulls up completely blank. Did I just brick this brand new chip?
Congrats on the factory defect Xbox 😂 Knowing from video how fast they handled screws on parts of the assembly line they were going to *screw* up in some way at least once. :P
I followed your steps exactly and my xbox won't let me at a custom dash to the c drive. The transfer fails every single time. I can remove the factory dash and readd it just fine all day and all night without issues. But now it goes to the service screen with error 16. Is there any way I can fix this? I am so lost now.
@@Bazkkaja Look bro, I'm not here to argue with you. If you like TSOP flashing then that's great, but I like hard mods. End of story. If I wanted to do a TSOP flash then I wouldn't be looking at a video based on a hard mod. Go take your argument somewhere else.
A custom BIOS allows more access to the console and does a nicer job future proofing it. You don't need to lock a HDD to your system, can remove the DVD drive, use whatever storage you want as long as you can adapt it.
I realize this is a older video now but you wouldn't happen to have any recommended installers for this chip? I would love to tackle it myself but between my mediocre soldering skills and old eyes I would certainly botch it.
Señor Mario, Thanks for video, just installed mines last night on v.1.6 and it runs great. Got a question, can you tell me how much storage space these chips have. Also, I saw a gold 24k open Xenium board in were Im trying to find out if its any different that the standards. Im on path to get a second openxenium for a second xbox, gold 24k board possibly. Thanks again.
Please Mr. Mario I'm almost at the point of buying a different version.. i think mine is a v1.4 .. i think but know its know v.1.6 for sure around @12:30 in your video my board has the desoldering i have to do and for the life of me for 6 months on an off as i get to where it is impossible for my wix to suck it up which came with an old kit i later replace for a soldering gun you recommended .. a stahl. ive set from 315 to 375 and the solder will melt but when i add the Lodestar desoldering wire width 2.0mm and even double and tripled up but no luck at all. trying to keep my composer.. ugh.. what am i doing wrong. im bout to say f it and get the one that doesnt but i dont want this to defeat me.
@mrmario2011 warning about your sponsor, I ordered stuff from him a couple weeks back and i still haven’t gotten confirmation. I attempted to cancel my order but he doesn’t respond to emails
I have a 1.0v xbox that I have install a Open Xenium chip. And now The system seems to be running great and immediately boots into the Xenium OS screen when powered on. The problem: no controller inputs are recognized in any of the controller ports (I've tried with four different working controllers). So basically I boot to Xenium OS, but cannot select any of the menu options. (I should also mention that before the Xenium install, everything had been working fine). I went ahead and removed the modchip from LPC.. and controllers started working when booting into stock! Has anybody came across this issue and has fixed it? Any help Please.
Hey does the disk drive need to be functional? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but my disk drive just went dead today, and this is probably going to be my fix so I dont need to worry bout the disk drive anymore
Does anyone have an idea why I cannot connect to the webserver? The Xbox is definitely connected to my router (shows my IP) but attempting to access it via the webserver just gives me a time out. I've tried on multiple browsers, with and without my VPN, and confirmed the webserver is set to on. I've even managed to connect a few weeks ago with all these same settings (need to install the custom bios now for the Xbox hdmi mod by makemhz) but cannot get it to do it again. I've tried restarting, setting up both to static and dynamic, etc. Any help would be appreciated!
I flashed my chip with two different bios files via web server method, and FTPing the files to the hard drive and it will always boot to the retail bios even when I select the custom ones from the menu.
Fixed it. If anyone has the same problem I did, try reflowing all the solder joints. I must have had a cold joint even though it would boot to Open Xenium.

@@MrMario2011 I see. I have just bought an openXenium(with PrometheOS pre installed) + LPC board for a 1.6 board. I am having trouble with the console after soldering the LPS. The console keeps turning on and off may times before it (maybe) boots into prometheOS and then shuts down again after about 2 minutes. The screen also flickers in and out to a green screen. Do you think it has something to do with the soldering job or is the chip bad? Thanks in advance
Hey man. I've done a 1.6 instalation of a OpenXenium chip, with a LPC rebuild pad and with straight wires like in your video but for the life of me i cannot get the console to not frag. without the modchip the console boots but with the chip plugged in the frags over and over. moreso it started to boot up by itself. If you ever faced anything like this please let me know if you found any solutions. From all the people i talked to on discords everyone says 1.6 sometimes works sometimes doesnt.
When you do the installation of a chip to an xbox I have seen that you always use a console that has never been modified and I wanted to ask you, is it possible to change the chip of an Xbox console that already has a chip installed? My console has an aladdin chip and I want to change it to a xenium chip, is it possible to change an already installed chip or is it impossible to change it?
I think I need to modchip my Xbox cause I softmodded it and locked the original HDD. I upgraded to a 2TB Seagate barracuda and then it shorted out on me. So chipping my Xbox would probably be my best option
@@marbles8641 i'd use 30 awg stranded silicone wire. Stranded and silicone wire a bit easier to work with, i got this after tearing a contact point using 22awg single strand after barely adjusting the wire.
@@marbles8641 i hear ya, be careful not to pull the wire once its soldered to the small point on motherboard. I bearly moved my wire(22 awg single strand) to get it out the way and it ripped the contact right off. Then i got the 30 awg threaded silcone which is a much softer wire and allows for movement without putting to much pressure on the solder joint, wish i would have used this type of wire first. As long as the wire youre using is not stiff and bends easily you'll be fine. A magnifying lens also helps to see some of these tiny contact points to make sure your work is correct and good quality solder I use some with lead because it seems to bond to contact points easier and faster. As long as you don't apply too much heat for too long while soldering and don't pull on the wire once its soldered to the tiny contact point you'll be fine! I got mine finally running last night.
If you pull them enough times they do get easier, plus you just gotta get a feel for it. Once you get to the point you can take these consoles apart in your sleep it's like that LOL

Remove the chip and make sure your Xbox boots up properly. If it doesn't, you damaged something during the installation. If it does, it could be an issue with your installation or chip.
followed the guide exactly xbox fried, not attempting on the third. soon as i booted the chip blinked blue, rebooted and then burnt up the Korea Chip. Edit: Used a flux that was more water based. Fried the chip. Dont go cheap on flux. and make sure to use 90% alcohol on it

I'm running into the same problem have you found any answers?
hello my xbox wont connect to internet ,do you know an other way to send the bios to it?
I just got my chip installed properly, but I couldn't get the IP address to connect. I hit restart network, but it just froze. When I restart the Xbox, the Xenium page pulls up completely blank. Did I just brick this brand new chip?
Congrats on the factory defect Xbox 😂
Knowing from video how fast they handled screws on parts of the assembly line they were going to *screw* up in some way at least once. :P
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Top tutorial...
Always my go to guy! 😎
Thank you!
Cool video found it very informative
Thanks!
I followed your steps exactly and my xbox won't let me at a custom dash to the c drive. The transfer fails every single time. I can remove the factory dash and readd it just fine all day and all night without issues. But now it goes to the service screen with error 16. Is there any way I can fix this? I am so lost now.
I'm interested in modding my Xbox, but I'm new to the scene. What's the difference between the Aladdin XT Plus2 and this OpenXenium chip?
Use the TSOP flash, this is the best way without a mod chip!
@@Bazkkaja Not trying to blow you off or anything my dude, but I'm not interested in softmods. They don't offer as much flexibility as mod chips.
SkyScourgeGod TSOP flash gives you more options then a normal soft mod. Which „special“ options do you need? 😂
@@Bazkkaja Look bro, I'm not here to argue with you. If you like TSOP flashing then that's great, but I like hard mods. End of story. If I wanted to do a TSOP flash then I wouldn't be looking at a video based on a hard mod. Go take your argument somewhere else.
SkyScourgeGod TSOP flash is a hard mod, rofl. Ok, rambo. 😂
Do you know why the browser does not open the Xenium web interface?
Serious question: why do you even wanna install a Mod Chip when you have the Softmod method?
A custom BIOS allows more access to the console and does a nicer job future proofing it. You don't need to lock a HDD to your system, can remove the DVD drive, use whatever storage you want as long as you can adapt it.
@@MrMario2011 thanks for the response. :-)
MrMario2011 this is the reason, why a tsop flash is better than a mod chip.
As I understand it: 1 MB.
I can't seem to connect to the web interface, my xbox is connected to my router.
It's difficult but not impossible, you need enough heat, good wick, and patience to clear them out. Introducing some fresh solder can also help a bit.
@@MrMario2011 thank you bud ill give er a go
Well I didn’t get that particular mod chip but I ended up getting an old Xbox with an alpha mod chip I’m kinda new to the whole OG Xbox mod community.
Thank you. Just one thing I noticed is that you didn't cut that trace near the Chip for 1.6
Yep! Not required, it isn't in the install docs.
Amazing this is a awesome tutorial
Glad you think so 😁
I currently have a 07 error code for my xbox will installing openxenium let me bypass that to install a new HDD?
@mrmario2011 warning about your sponsor, I ordered stuff from him a couple weeks back and i still haven’t gotten confirmation. I attempted to cancel my order but he doesn’t respond to emails
is there any other place i can connect the wire (instead of the 3rd point down ) mine wasnt able to solder correctly ?
What if i installed the chip and the xenium boot menu freezez at the screen? I'm stuck!! thanks!
I have a 128MB RAM Xbox and plan to use a 2TB hard disk
which BIOS should I use?
Is this installation the same as installing a XeniumICE chip? I recently bought one but I'm unsure about the installation process.
From what I've seen, yeah. Nice thing about OG Xbox modchips is that if you can install one, you can pretty much install them all.
I tried a lot of this restoration. With a spare Xbox But after putting it all back together. The console flashed red and green and packed up sadly :/
Hey does the disk drive need to be functional? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but my disk drive just went dead today, and this is probably going to be my fix so I dont need to worry bout the disk drive anymore
No
Does anyone have an idea why I cannot connect to the webserver? The Xbox is definitely connected to my router (shows my IP) but attempting to access it via the webserver just gives me a time out. I've tried on multiple browsers, with and without my VPN, and confirmed the webserver is set to on. I've even managed to connect a few weeks ago with all these same settings (need to install the custom bios now for the Xbox hdmi mod by makemhz) but cannot get it to do it again. I've tried restarting, setting up both to static and dynamic, etc.
Any help would be appreciated!
@mrmario2011 Just wanted to check why you dont use a soft toothbrush with alcohol to clean up that flux? Those qtip fibers had me sweating! >:D
In this exact case, I'm not sure why :P
I flashed my chip with two different bios files via web server method, and FTPing the files to the hard drive and it will always boot to the retail bios even when I select the custom ones from the menu.
Fixed it. If anyone has the same problem I did, try reflowing all the solder joints. I must have had a cold joint even though it would boot to Open Xenium.
Is there a specific DVD media this should be burnt to? DVD+R DL aint working for me; disc wont boot. Is this a DVD-R media only?
DVD-R is usually what I use.
@@MrMario2011 Awesome thanks. Makes sense dvd+r's didn't really become ubiquitous until ps3/360 era.
Dvd players early on would only read -R so thanks for confirming
Trying to understand flux and which one to get that you use. In this video you said kingbo but is it no clean?
Nope, but in my opinion it's best practice to clean off flux when done, even if it is no clean.
@@MrMario2011 So will I be able to do what you did just to be sure to clean off with isopropyl alcohol or do I need to order the clean. This is my first time
Kingbo won't hurt the board at all anyway @@texaspete1523
Did you flash the M8 bios into the modchip or to the Tsop chip on the xbox motherboard?
Modchip
I am afraid that if i flash a bios to the mod chip, i will delete or overwrite the xeniumOS/PrometheOS that is already on it
@@MrMario2011 I see.
You are NOT suppose to use both the LPC rebuild board AND do all the wires as he did in this video. It's one or the other.
@@mwreyf1 yes i know that. i first tried with the LPC board. once it didnt work. i removed it and used wires
@@vnBob_OC I see. Nevermind.
Certainly possible, installation should be the same.
What can I do if the D0 pad lifts when I go to tin it?
Is there any type of flux that you recommend? Is rosin-based no-clean flux good for this?
Check out my hardware in my Amazon link in the description.
@@MrMario2011 Didn't know that Amazon lets you do that. Thanks!
Hey there is it possible to install this and use ftp for heXen as all my xboxs disc drives are dead
I can't access the Xenium OS web interface. It doesn't let me restart the network either.
Never been this early, let me just make some popcorn and I will brb.

If you have unleash X, can you still launch that menu through the modchip menu?
Hi MrMario! I have just got myself a OG XBOX, which mod chip is best to install?
I'm recommending this.
@@MrMario2011 ok thanks
I followed your instructions and it cut on then off then off then on to red and green
Question: What was the temperature of the soldering iron you used?
700 F, conversion tells me that's 371.1 C if that's what your display defaults to.

Any suggestions on using an ide to SD card adaptor for the Xbox rather than an HDD?
I wouldn't at all suggest that
I did the same thing but for some reason I can’t get more than 123gb on my hdd but my hdd is 500gb
I think I need to modchip my Xbox cause I softmodded it and locked the original HDD. I upgraded to a 2TB Seagate barracuda and then it shorted out on me. So chipping my Xbox would probably be my best option
So with this do i not need to bridge the 2 tsop points then if im using the debug and chip ?
So, I will be Modding my Softmodded Xbox V 1.0. Is the TSOP enough or is a chip recommended?
TSOP should be fine enough for most.
@@MrMario2011 cool. Thank you
Can the Xbox already be softmodded when installing this?
so got a halo edition xbox what mod should i do i would like to upgrade to hard-drive and mod it i no i need to remove the clock yet
trying to find those bios was hell
My chip didn't come with any cabling, so what type of wire and guage should I purchase? Xbox v1.4 (Halo Collectors)
You can check my Amazon page in the description for the wire I use/recommend, but 30awg single strand wire will work nicely.
@@MrMario2011 Thanks as always man! You're a great help for a novice like me on these projects!
@@marbles8641 i'd use 30 awg stranded silicone wire. Stranded and silicone wire a bit easier to work with, i got this after tearing a contact point using 22awg single strand after barely adjusting the wire.
@@magneisuemwinterjuice7810 I'm just nervous, I got 30awg krylon and not the best at soldering.
Been slowly teaching myself by soldering batteries.
I got mine finally running last night.
why are the cables connecting your dvd drive and hard drive so easy to pull out? mine refuse to even come out xDD

Would somebody be kind enough to tell me how this compares to other mod chips, and softmodding? Like can you do an hdmi mod without a modchip etc?
You will need a custom BIOS for the XboxHDMI/XboxHD+
@@MrMario2011 Thank you very much. I mean it. If you wouldn't mind I'm more curious why not just softmod, then do an hdmi mod, lights etc. Toggling BIOS is the only one in aware of. How does the aladin chip compare to openxemium chip?
Aladdin is fine if all you want to do is boot a single custom BIOS, no fuss.
